btw if we were searching for gold on the dawson trail together and you were succumbing to hypothermia and your last request was for me to cremate you somehow, i'd do it

btw did y’all know the cremation of sam mcgee is all about someone keeping a promise to a friend through cold and fear and desperation and cynicism and it seems pointless but it brings about resurrection??

My dealer: got some straight gas 🔥😛 this strain is called “the cremation of sam mcgee” 😳 you’ll be zonked out of your gourd 💯
Me: yeah whatever. i don’t feel shit.
5 minutes later: dude i swear i saw sam mcgee looking cool and calm, in the heart of the furnace roar
My buddy Robert Service pacing: There are strange things done in the midnight sun / By the men who moil for gold; / The Arctic trails have their secret tales / That would make your blood run cold; / The Northern Lights have seen queer sights, / But the queerest they ever did see / Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge / I cremated Sam McGee.

I love when old timey poems use the word queer to mean strange or odd because nothing hits quite as hard as “the northern lights have seen queer sights but the queerest they ever did see was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge” like 👍 okay cool I can’t wait to hear about the queerest thing the northern lights have ever seen. and then 9 times out of 10 it is genuinely the Queerest thing imaginable

As it is Passover again, it is time for the annual debate as to whether the frog plague, which thanks to a quirk in the Hebrew, is written as a plague of frog, singular, rather than the plural, plague of frogs, was in fact, as generally imagined, a plague of many frogs, or instead a singular giant Kaiju frog. This is an ancient and venerable argument that actually goes back to the Talmud because this is what the Jewish people are. If we can't argue for fun about this sort of thing, what are we even doing.
In that spirit, I would like to submit a third possibility, which is that in fact it was one perfectly normal sized frog, who was absolutely acing Untitled Frog Game: Ancient Egypt Edition. One particularly obnoxious frog, who through sheer hard work, managed to plague all of Egypt.

it really is insane how waking up early will grant you access to some of the most beautiful sights and sensations in the world that will make you want to live forever, but only if you overcome the gauntlet of a thousand razors that is getting out of bed early. truly one of life's little saw traps.
