There is a slight intake of air that suggests Shiro has not expected to walked in on this bombshell. He regards Hunk with a somber expression that steels itself against the fallout. Those dark eyes are difficult to read, but hold a firm strength that flickers in their murky grey depths. There is a grim expression that twists his features, before the Black Paladin folds his arms over his chest.

“You're right.” Shiro says gravely. “We've gotten lucky, and we've been careless. We were never trained for this kind of mission. We're under-staffed. We're under-skilled. We're stressed, tired, and pushing to our limits.” He pauses, moving to gesture towards the display screens that show their comrades on other decks of the castle.

“We all know this situation 'sucks', and we're not-- I'm not asking you to pretend blindly that our chances of success are high. But I am asking you to believe in what the Collision is trying to achieve. I am asking you to believe in your team... and believe in yourself. If you do not? All of this-- ” A gesture was made towards Hunk, “Will eat away at you, slowly. Like a poison.” His words are sharp but not without warmth. They reflect the fact he's been there. Defeated. Alone. Struggling to find purpose to continue. He has his purpose now.

“This mind frame, Hunk, will discredit everything we've been doing to defeat Zarkon. I can’t tell you how to feel, and if you don’t want my morale talk? Fine. But if we don't believe in ourselves how can we expect others to? How can we gather the strength of allies under a banner of doubt? We wont, and we will loose.”

He moves then, slowly closing thedistance between them and resting his hands against the railingguarding them from a drop into the lower decks of the castle. Darkeyes leave the yellow paladin, and turn up to regard the glimpse ofspace beyond the view port. They cant even see home from here.

“We wont ask you to do anythingyou don’t want to do, Hunk. I will not force this on anyone.”Shiro speaks lightly, but there is regret in his voice. Kids. Theseare just kids, he thinks. “But, do you need–” No, thatneeded to be better said. “Would you like to talk about it?”

Jack didn’t remember much. All he knew was that he’d been shot, and he definitely had a concussion. He did his best to staunch the flow of the blood with his hand, sending out a distress signal and hoping for the best.

So when he saw his Black Lion come into view, he sighed gratefully, giving a chuckle. How could he forget about his lion? “Good boy,” he mumbled, not knowing there was a very different pilot to this particular lion...

It was a routine sweep of the area; their last fight against the Galra Empire had splintered the retreating forces among the outlying planets of this system. Normally, they would have left the Blades to deal with this on their own-- but there was something... unsettling about the last battle. The energy source they had picked up on during the battle had been pure quintessence. Not the modified form the Zarkon had been known for using.

The distress beacon drew his attention-- it wasn’t the Galra? Shiro drew the map application forward, and zoned in on the frequency. It was Altean? This peeked his interest, and he radio’d back to the castle to let them know. It came of no surprise that Allura demanded it be checked out, and Shiro was happy to oblige. In the back of his mind, the low growl of Black rumbled in a silent agreement. Yet, something felt a bit... off about this. He cautioned himself to be on alert, and scanned the surrounding area for activity as he approached.

The imposing form of the Lion landed heavily, dust and debris scattering around its hulking frame. Oddly? It didn’t move to scoop up the injured form; instead it’s jaws split open and lowered to release a pilot who hopped from the perch and boosted the short distance to land near the slopped form. 

“Shit,” That was a lot of blood, and Shiro steeled himself as he pulled out the medkit strapped to his hip. “I’m Shiro-- I’m going to help you out, okay? “ He needed something to slow the bleeding until he could get this guy back to the Castle, and the healing pods.
