#2 – KyMBA Turkey Run

Grab your bike, a couple of friends, and get ready for this incredible experience. Take a leisurely ride through beautiful Turkey Run Park and afterwards hang out and enjoy a couple of cold adult beverages. The trail will travel clockwise on PAW PAW to Chinkapin and from there to Boulder Pond. Since this is a social ride, they will stop at all intersections to regroup before continuing on. The route back will be in reverse and head back on Hickory. Be sure to bring a helmet and a bike that is in good working condition. #3 – Old Fashion Ice Cream Social at Riverside

Who doesn’t like ice cream?! Enjoy a relaxing afternoon on the banks of the Ohio River for an Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social. #4 – Splash ‘n’ Dash Walk/Run

Runners and walkers can choose to splash their way through a 5k course or a kid-friendly 1k course filled with fun and refreshing ways to cool off in splash zones. Splash ‘n’ Dash benefits the lifesaving care available to the more than 180,000 children cared for at Norton Children’s Hospital and Norton Children’s facilities, regardless of their families’ ability to pay. Register to run/walk, join a team or create a team. 5k registration is $30 for adults and $15 for children ages 5 to 17. 1k registration is $20 for adults and $15 for children ages 5 to 17. Kids ages 4 and under are free but will not receive a t-shirt or bib. All registered participants will receive an official Splash ‘n’ Dash t-shirt and a personal fundraising page. Day-of registration fee is an additional $5.

Who doesn’t like chocolate!? This not-to-be-missed event will feature dazzling entertainment , spirits, light bites, silent auction, and, of course, plenty of chocolate. Bid on fabulous prizes while sampling on sweet treats. All proceeds benefit the Kentuckiana AIDS Alliance. Each guest is asked to make a minimum $45 tax-deductible donation to help the cause.

Indy Film Fest and Downtown Indy, Inc. have partnered again for Sunset Cinema on the Canal. Everyone is invited to watch FREE outdoor movies along the Canal one Thursday per month, May – August. A large movie screen will be located on the north end of the Canal near the Admiral Spruance Basin (11th Street) in Indianapolis, IN. Movie-goers are invited to bring blankets/chairs and picnics to enjoy the movies on the grassy areas. What is Electronic Recycling?

Electronic recycling is the process of reusing and repurposing broken, dated, or obsolete electronics. These electronics are also referred to as “e-waste.”

Instead of tossing it in the trash or throwing it in the dumpster, you can take advantage of electronics recycling. By recycling the devices that are broken or that you do not want anymore, you eliminate harmful waste from entering Indianapolis landfills and aid in building entirely new electronic devices.

Battery Recycling

There are many types of batteries that can be recycled, including rechargeable ones and those found in home electronics, cars, boats, and trucks. You know those batteries in your tv remote or child’s toy? All recyclable.

When batteries have reached the end of their useful life, they can be broken down and the different components and metals inside will be separated and used to manufacture new batteries or incorporated into other metal products.

These are the different kinds of batteries that are acceptable for recycling, according to Battery Solutions:

Lead Acid – commonly found in car batteries

Alkaline – these are your everyday AA, AAA, C, and D batteries

Lithium-Ion – this is found in rechargeable batteries like those in small electronic devices like iPhones and iPods.

Nickel-Cadmium (NiCd) – rechargeable batteries used for portable computers, drills, camcorders and other small battery-operated devices requiring an even power discharge.

Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) – similar to nickel-cadmium batteries except that this battery uses hydrogen instead of cadmium.

Lithium Batteries – non-rechargeable batteries typically found in electronics and medical devices.

Mercury Batteries – these are small button batteries used in laser pointers and Christmas ornaments

Zinc-Carbon – these single use batteries are commonly used in remote controls, flashlights, clocks, or transistor radios

Zinc-Air – these can be found in hearing aids and watches

Cell Phone Recycling

Before recycling your cell phone, consider donating it first if it is in good working condition. Many non-profit organizations collect cell phones to give to those who cannot afford a phone of their own. Is a dumpster for rent the right choice for your next cleanout, renovation, or move? The answer depends on the nature of your project and how you are planning to get it done. However, in most cases, rental dumpsters provide a convenient solution that can make your life easier and provide some relief to your wallet.

Your Current Cleanout Strategy

Think about your current cleanout strategy. What challenges or disadvantages does that strategy entail? If you could change one thing about that strategy, what would it be? Below, we’ve outlined a few potential options—and why they might require an alternative.

Strategy #1: Hauling junk to the nearest trash or recycling center yourself, one truck bed at a time.

This option offers one big advantage: it’s cheap. If you want to have your cleanout process be completely DIY, this path is the way to go.
