Chevrolet Corvette XP-897 GT Two-Rotor Concept, 1973. Presented at the IAA in Frankfurt 50 years ago this week, a prototype for a rotary-powered mid-engined Corvette that had been made by Pininfarina. The concept had been built over the platform of a Porsche 914 and fitted with a 2-rotor version of GM’s Wankel engine. The project went no further as General Motors abandoned their rotary engine program and it would be another 46 years before a mid-engine Corvette would go on sale

Chevy Project X, 2021 & 2007 (1957). A Chevrolet Bel Air 2-door sedan that has been an evolving test bed and was presented at SEMA in 2007 as a restomod fitted with a Anniversary 427ci crate engine and been presented at SEMA this year converted yet again, this time powered by a 340hp electric motor. The latest reinvention of the famous Hot Rod project car is the result of a collaboration between Chevrolet Performance, MotorTrend and Cagnazzi Racing. Project X has been fitted with a 400-volt proof-of-concept lithium-ion battery that stores 30 kilowatt-hours of electricity. The battery, which is being evaluated for potential use as a next-generation Chevrolet Performance product, has been developed around a modular concept that could allow customers to scale the pack capacity based on range, cost, packaging and weight considerations.
