Good evening pals it's time for more "things I like about the Ace Attorney Anime despite the budget being less than what I have in my piggy bank". Tonight is one of my favorite adaption decisions from "Farewell, My Turnabout" (obvious Spoilers for that case, you have been warned).

To start, the art in the anime is often pretty funky and off model, but I wanted to highlight this frame when Phoenix is talking to Matt Engarde in the detention center with his reflection in the shot. It is genuinely well drawn and downright horrifying. Actually, the whole episode has pretty good draftsmen working on the character animation, considering.

I could honestly leave it as is, but this next scene is what I want to talk about the most. (I have to leave some stuff out because of the 30 image limit--I took like 50 screencaps of this scene in total lol--so bare with me.) Phoenix steps out of the Detention center to see a certain prosecutor waiting for him.

The following conversation takes place in the Criminal Affairs Department in the game, but in the anime, it takes place in Edgeworth's office! (RIP Eddy's Bratworth outfit which is just a 2D image on that wall lmao--again, there are some well drawn stuff but this is just silly.) Another note: the text is from the sub with the localized English names, and it's a bit different from the dub.

This shot lingers for a bit, and you hear traffic outside before the following happens. The rest is under the cut.

Brilliant, incredible, amazing, showstopping, spectacular, never the same... you get the idea haha. I love it very much.

2. Phoenix pouts as he puts the glove on while Miles looks off to the side with an annoyed expression.

Phoenix: (so stubborn…) / I look silly now…

Miles: Yes, we’re a pair of fools. I’m sure Franziska is laughing at us somewhere.

3. Phoenix glances to him from the side.

4. Phoenix holds his own hands together as he observes Miles fidgeting with his now-exposed hand.

2. Phoenix and Miles smile warmly at one another, as their hands share the warmth of Miles’ coat pocket.

Miles: Yes. / I suppose you’re right.

1. Phoenix and Miles stand side by side. Phoenix is smug and Miles huffs a laugh.

Phoenix: Oh, Edgeworth~ / I’m always Wright.

2. Still side by side, Phoenix watches as Miles smiles smugly and taps his temple.

Miles: Please. Have you already forgotten? / It was I who gave you the ‘Wright’ glove in the first place.

3. Phoenix freezes in shock. Miles proudly smirks.

4. Phoenix leans into Miles as he laughs. Miles grins as he looks at Phoenix.

Miles is roused from sleep by sunlight shining on his face. Slowly, his eyes adjust to the light, until finally, his scope of awareness broadens to a body he had been sleeping on.

Miles looks up to the figure that holds him, and upon seeing, his eyes widen in recognition.

On the other side of the bed, Phoenix rests, his head propped by the headboard. His hair is messy from sleep, and his expression is thoughtful. The light of the morning highlights his features.

The sun shines through the blinds of the window.

Phoenix finally notices his observer, and turns to look at him.

Phoenix takes Miles’ hand in his, and lifts it to gently kiss the ring on Miles’ finger. They both move to share a kiss, and their hands shift to hold one another. Miles’ ring sparkles in the sunlight.

They link their fingers as they kiss, and the morning creates a quiet atmosphere around them.

They part, but remain close, their fingers fully interlocked. Phoenix greets “Good morning,” with a tender, loving expression as he looks at Miles. Miles’ own expression is soft, unguarded, and fixed on Phoenix.

Phoenix and Miles settle back into their shared bed; the morning sun illuminates them. They both smile softly, seeming happy and at peace. Miles rests his head under Phoenix’s neck, and his hand on Phoenix’s chest. One of Phoenix’s hands rests over Miles’ own on his chest, while his other hand holds Miles closer, revealing a matching ring of his own. Both rings shine softly in the sunlight.
