Evaluation
For my Final Major Project this year I wanted to focus and expand on a handful of the formal elements. In my initial proposal I planned on creating patterns inspired from photos I had taken on the London trip. In my Final Major Project last year I had also created patterns, so I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try some new processes.
Throughout my time in college I had never highlighted photography in my work. The idea of taking inspiration and primary research from my surroundings really fascinated me because there could be various parts of an image you could take inspiration from. Instead of just having the theme based around the London images, I decided to develop my project and make it relevant to me. During the course of my project I went and took photographs from the town I live in Caerleon, and also different parts of Newport, plus I took photos from when I went on holiday to Newquay. My thoughts behind the project were to showcase the contrasts between all the different places I had photographed, such as their scenery, colour, tones and textures and then following that I implemented mark makings and mono prints to exaggerate the features already there.
The main aspect I wanted to investigate in my project was new processes, I started by having an induction into mono-printing which then led to my experimentation with colour, texture and tone. I also brought typography into my work by applying a letter press to my pieces that were not as vibrant to make it stand out. Mark making was another process I was introduced to in the workshop.
Mark making was another process I was introduced to in the workshop, I used my left over ink which I poured white spirit over, I then proceeded to blend the colours by hand and then placed a piece of card on top. This displayed texture and movement within my work which inspired me to explore mark making further, later on in my work. After I had produced a variety of mono-prints and mark making I decided to use those pieces and also create paper weaves. After generating masses of practical work I moved on to digital work and created a gif from 3 of my weaves which I later set as my Tumblr background.
Looking back over my work as a whole I am happy with what I achieved, but I sensed my work could have been further developed. I could have turned my mono-prints into a repeat pattern on Photoshop and made a strip of wallpaper. Or take my mono-prints/mark making into the textiles workshop and made screen prints. I would have also like to tried foiling over the top of my mark making to add more texture.
When it came to research my primary research was very strong this year. Going out a taking photos was a good opportunity to enjoy the weather, explore and get inspired from my surroundings. Other than my FMP I always conduct a mass amount of secondary research this year I led research into the history of my town, colour, shape, texture and artist that I have taken inspiration from. Primary research and Secondary research has really helped me this year in providing the fuel for new ideas.
When conducting research I touched on ancient Roman history through the place I live, with there being many Roman remains. Also when looking into weaving I looked into how weaving was produced by the Natives.

How I Want My Work To Be Exhibited
After completing all my work, the final step for my project is working out how i would like my work exhibited. Throughout my project i have produced many samples using various processes. I need to think about what elements will tie my collection together and make it feel cohesive.
Choosing works in the same medium i feel is important because i want viewers to look at my work and see a significant link throughout.
Showing my own style through my work is necessary because it shows a recognisable signature within a skill i have used within the project.
Having a colour scheme may also be useful to link all the work together and make it look like a collection.
Also the theme of my work is important to show the viewers what my project motif is and meaning along with my statement
Lastly the way the i exhibit my work i need decide upon the format, the scale in which i will present it. Additionally i need to decide how many pieces of work i will show, too many might be too crowded and too little might not be enough.
With all these points in mind i feel that using the photo shopped collage images are the best choice because they show the images i have taken as primary research, the sampling that i conducted relating to the place i took images from and the use of Photoshop. All these images show the same medium and exhibit my own style that i found through the project. I think the colour scheme isn't a big issue when presenting my work because all of the places i took photographs from are individual to one another along with the colour schemes i made mono-prints/mark making from. With the theme i could display just one of the places i created collages from but i wanted to show the contrast between the places so i would like to use all the four places. There would still be a theme as they are all created in the same medium. Finally the format i would like to show my work is having 2 A2 images of my London collages and 4 A3 of just Cearleon images or the 3 other places.
