Placement update
I got back in contact with my old boss from Koua, Mexico about the collection we designed last Spring. The collection is still in production. She told me that she was hiring a freelance digital marketer and sales person for her new fabric company (Koua studios) and she told me that she wanted that person to be me.  Now I have a freelance sales & marketing job, which will continue for as long I can keep it up, so I’m very pleased about that.

Placement update
I finished my Harrys of London placement. It was my first placement working in a professional studio with other workers so I feel that it was good experience and a good opportunity for me to get used to working amongst professionals. It taught me how to adapt my work to the people around me. I learnt pieces about merchandising, sales and productions while I worked as a design intern at Harrys too, which was very interesting for me.

Placement update
This week when I was in the studio, I sat in meetings with store associates and I sat in a 6 hour meting about shoe constructions. I definitely enjoyed the meetings because they were very educational and I learnt a lot about the shoe production process. Furthermore, this week in the studio I have spent most of my time preparing a training presentation.

Placement update
As I mentioned in my previous post, last week I started work at Harrys of London in the London studio. I haven't mentioned it much in my blog so far, as I got the placement very quickly and began it very quickly. I currently do 2 days in the London studio and a few days working from home. Over the past week, I have been creating inspiration boards for the shoes of the upcoming collection. The boards include current menswear trend photography and competitor shoe photography. Over the past week, I have spent quite bit of time in meetings discussing designs of shoes and discussing the manufacturing of shoes. Tomorrow when I am in the studio, I believe I will be finalising the trend board and I possibly will be in a few meetings.

My first two days have been meetings and getting set up on the system. Once I begin doing design related tasks, I will write an update on this blog.

Placement update
I’m coming towards the end of my 3 month placement with Koua, Mexico. I’ve absolutely loved it and I have found it very interesting. I have developed a huge interest in Mexican culture and indigenous rights through completion of my placement work. I hope one day to be able to go to Mexico and experience the culture for real.  As the work is combining to an end, I am finalising my research into visual work and finalising my marketing studies. The collection will hopefully come out in June - I am very excited about it. When I have finished this placement, I am going to do some independent work of my own, hopefully the work that I do will help me get another work placement this Autumn/ Winter for another fashion company.

Bright colours like this are predicted to be trendy post-covid. These colours are vibrant and uplifting. They offer a sense of freedom we have not had with lockdown. I have been using these colours as colour inspiration for my marketing research.

Placement update
This week, I have just been researching more marketing and promotional ideas for Koua. I have been planning how the brand story can be represented through social media. I’ve been again looking at sample inspiration and planning the technical parts of the collection. I have done a lot of research into women's rights in Mexico. I have also been researching travel in Chiapas, Mexico for Koua.

Heart Dia De Los Muertos headpieces have been really inspiring my work.  I absolutely love the contrast between the blooming bright red florals and the skull makeup. One day I would love to go to Mexico during the Day of the Dead celebrations.

Placement update
Over the past two weeks, I have been doing the digital marketing for Koua, Mexico. I have been planning posts for the Instagram and for the collection launch. I have been designing headpieces too, which will help promote the collection. Furthermore, I have been writing product descriptions and creating fictional stories about every product that I have designed. I have really enjoyed it and it is teaching me a lot about marketing. Design has always been my strength compared to marketing, so learning more about marketing has been very good for me.

PLACEMENT UPDATE
This week for my placement I have been doing the tech packs for the clothing items and bags. There has been so many tech packs to do that it has taken a full 2 weeks to complete them all. Next week, I will be introduced to doing the marketing, financial stuff and the PR stuff for the collection. It won’t be long now until we get to send the designs off to Mexico to be made which is very exciting!

Koua placement update
This week, I have been creating the tech packs for accessories that I have designed for the upcoming collection. I have never created tech packs before so this was an educational and exciting week for me. Next week, I will be creating the tech packs for the clothing I have designed that will be featured in the same collection. At the moment the name of the collection I have come up with is ‘Stay safe, stay empowered!’, because the collection links to fashion post lockdown and empowering society. The collection will hopefully be out in June. It will be unisex and it feature embroidery done by the Tzotzil community in Mexico.

Koua placement update
This week I have been searching photography and styling ideas for the collection I have designed. I have also been brainstorming ideas for names of the garments I have designed. Furthermore, I  have been using illustrator to demonstrate my ideas. I have also been creating collages to exemplify my marketing ideas. Next week, I will be doing the tech packs for the collection. I am very excited to do this, because once the tech packs are finished, we will be able to send the designs to Mexico to get made.

Placement update
For the past two weeks now, I have been doing design developments for accessories and a clothing collection for Koua, Mexico. I am continuing with the developments next week too. I am not posting a picture because the brand wants to keep it private until the items are released. I have been working on illustrator to do 2D design ideas and I worked on photoshop to incorporate the ideas with different colours from the colour palette and different traditional Mexican textiles. The collection is supposed combine the style of Tzotil traditions with the style of cosmopolitan London. The aim of the collection is to raise awareness of women’s empowerment in the Tzotil indigenous tribe located in Chiapas, Mexico. The indigenous women of the Tzotil community embroid garments that we design. It is very ethical and is sustainably made.
