well, celine dion won't be able to perform at eurovision 2025 in geneva so they should do an interval act where gjons tears covers her winning song from 1989. how neat would that be

we're only 5 countries in but I WAS RIGHT!!! now watch the televoters destroy everything lol
switzerland is going to DEMOLISH the jury vote on saturday, and with the televotes being divided between several fun options, that probably means the jury winner is taking home the whole thing. i am 1000% on board with switzerland winning btw, i love the whole chaotic theatre kid energy

i think the eurovision fandom is either unable or unwilling to keep all the different incidents and controversies separate and its pretty frustrating.
1. should israel be allowed to compete? the fandom says no, the ebu says yes. the decision to let them compete was made months before the competition started in malmö.
2. should joost klein be allowed to compete while under police investigation for illegal threats? the fandom says yes, the ebu says no.
3. should israel be allowed to compete when members of their delegation have been accused of harrassing other participants during the competition? the fandom says no, and we do not know if the ebu is investigating the allegations.
situation 1 and 3 should not affect the way the ebu investigates and makes decisions regarding situation 2, and vice versa. any professional organization is going to keep the assessment of these matters separate. enough with the whataboutism.

the israeli delegation member who made the comments about how bambie "shouldnt breathe near them" should be immediately banned from the arena, the comments were completely unacceptable.
the comments do not fit the legal definition of an illegal threat according to swedish law - as far as i know this person never said that they themselves would do anything illegal or violent to bambie, and that would be the legal definition of an illegal threat. thats not me defending this person, i find them morally reprehensible, but I still feel the need to point out that the everyday definition of a threat is not the same as the legal definition of a threat.
joost is suspected of a crime, this other person is not, and i would hesitate to treat the situation as if joost is an innocent victim, while this other person is getting away with murder. from what i can see, what we have is two people displaying various degrees of unacceptable workplace behaviour.
i don't even know who this israeli person is, i just know that they need to be banned from the arena and fired from their job.
with that said, i think the main performer is the one who should be responsible for their country participating - joost is the specific person who is disqualified, and if he is disqualified there is nobody left to perform. if a random member of the dutch delegation was the one making threats instead, joost would still be competing.
from what i have seen, eden golan herself has not done anything to be disqualified, and it is possible to get rid of random members of her delegation without having to remove her participation entirely. i would have preferred if israel did not participate, the ebu should have banned them a long time ago, but the ebu have allowed their participation and their performer has not broken any rules.
fuck around and find out, joost.
I just hope he can take his newfound martyr status and turn it into the best thing that ever happened to his career. I guess thats where i am mentally in this entire situation - i think he deserves to be disqualified as a consequence of his own actions (anyone who makes illegal threats at their workplace deserves to get fired), BUT i also think hes a great artist and he can find a way to benefit from this. he is probably going to end up being the biggest winner of eurovision 2024, in terms of exposure and gaining new fans, and in a year as fucked up as this one i think its fitting, i guess. god what a year

Update: the fandom has collectively decided that joost did nothing wrong because he only threatened someone verbally, so thats fine!
nope, thats still a crime, he could face anything from a fine to 2-6 years in prison, if he is found guilty. whatever the incident was, it needs to be taken seriously.
hmmmm. the situation is still ongoing and we dont have all the facts yet, but with that said im pretty sure joost has gotten himself disqualified from the competition.
if the reports about him being physically violent are true, he needs to be disqualified, no matter how much we all looked forward to seeing him in the final. the whole eurovision production is a workplace like any other, and if you get physically violent at your workplace, you are going to get fired, thats just how basic workplace safety is supposed to function. again, the situation is ongoing and nothing like this has ever happened before, but I would definitely let the whole thing play out before defending joost as if hes a victim in this specific situation. jesus fucking christ what a shitshow this year is

Update: the malmö police are investigating the incident, and i definitely think that is necessary considering the whole situation.
i am going to reiterate that violence is unacceptable in any professional setting, especially violence so bad that it requires a police investigation. seriously, i would urge you all to tone down the whole #justiceforjoostklein thing while the situation is still unfolding, because at this point it looks like large parts of the fandom are defending a man who may have assaulted a woman at her workplace.
We dont know where this is going, but at this point i would be very hesitant to support joost in relation to this specific incident. based on the reports, i don't see him being an innocent victim, and i don't see how there could be some secret conspiracy to get him disqualified, even if the fandom on twitter seems fully convinced that israel is behind this despite there being no evidence that any israeli person was involved in the incident in any capacity. joost is an adult and he is fully responsible for his own actions, and he will have to face any possible consequences, both with law enforcement and in the competition.
