Don't leave this kind of comment on a one shot. This is a whole fic. I spent hours writing it. Just because it's not 100k words and 40+ chapters doesn't mean it's not a complete fic.

listen. i know it's not 2014 anymore and i know it's just a throwaway line and that the russo brothers didnt intend for marvel action blockbuster captain america the winter soldier to become the tragic gay love story that never was but man. having steve say "it's kind of hard to find someone with shared life experience" in a conversation about romantic relationships right before the bucky reveal is so cruel. it's not just about steve and bucky obviously having the shared experience of being "out of time," it's the fact that they've both been stripped of their humanity in opposite directions. steve is a legend, he is an american hero and a national icon before he is a human being the same way that bucky is a weapon and a killing machine before he is a human being. steve knows that anyone who falls in love with him in the 21st century fell in love with captain america first, and that's just not him. but then the one person who knew him first and knew him best and loved him (not captain america, that little guy from brooklyn) so much he died for it is alive, impossibly. and it's a miracle because he's back and it's horrific because he's back under the worst possible circumstances. but to steve, the winter soldier is worth tearing the world apart for because he's always been bucky first. they find each other and suddenly they're human again. and maybe, despite it all, being "out of time" becomes a blessing, because in this century they'd finally be allowed to love each other the way they've always wanted to. like real people do.
like. no. the captain america trilogy isn't about two queer men traumatized and alienated by war and modern life rediscovering and reclaiming their humanity through their love for each other. but. i mean. it couldve been

Why is Bucky drinking from a juice box the cutest thing ever? It’s not like it's convenient, it's comically in his large hand, he could easily drink about 50 at a time but it doesn't matter. Imagine him sitting in a meeting trying to discreetly get the straw out of the wrapper as quietly as he can.
"Damn it" He mutters to himself, no longer focused on what anyone around him is saying but trying to get the little straw into the stubborn hole because he just wants his damn juice.
He gets away with it for a while but eventually someone hears the little sippy sippy sounds and Fury asks which motherfucker is drinking out of a juice box when he's having a briefing.
He is the cutest thing on the planet when he looked up with the straw between adorable pink lips, blinking at why everyone is staring at him, taking another loooooong unbothered sip.
Sometimes he packs some in his duffle bag when he has to go away on missions. He's not picky but he really likes his apple juice and he doesn't hide his grumpiness when he sees Sam stole one. He knows he packed 5.
Just a Bucky and his juice box.

Thanks for your answer for the last ask.
What is wrong with the writers of the new MCU material? Do they just hate Bucky, especially the writer of the Falcon and the Winter Soldier (he's NOT the Winter Soldier anymore!)? Did Bucky kick their cat or something? This hatred and victim blaming is not justified! "Oh Bucky's just a cray-cray psycho killing machine with cool metal arm but probably belongs in a padded cell. Lol he says he had no choice such a lame excuse..."
Soo…I don’t know if people still remember the rumours from back in 2021 and I don’t know how much of it is true, but my guess at it is this: there were supposed to be two main writers on the series. Spellman was supposed to take Sam’s story, while the other guy wrote Bucky’s story. For whatever reason, the other guy quit before he finished, and didn’t give the writing team enough time to put things together.
From a story craft point of view, Bucky’s story in TFATWS reeks of first-draft-ism. It’s a scattered plot of events that don’t quite string together, and a self-contradictory characterisation that hasn’t yet been smoothed over (but was made a little more believable by Sebastian’s efforts). You can tell some central character themes had been planted in the first draft — the PTSD, the guilt, the messy way he’s trying to relearn how to interact with people (Yori, Sam and later the Wakandans), the struggle with breaking free of his past. These were all strong, interesting character beats for Bucky to work through, and it honestly could have been a good story. And I think that’s when the original writer bailed.
When Spellman picked up this draft, he was pressed for time, he hadn’t watched CATWS and he never thought he’d needed to know about Bucky’s story, so he reads TheMovieSpoiler summary of the movie and tries to piece the rest of the story together. But Bucky’s not his priority nor his interest. There’s already beats of the story that were planned and have to be there for IP reasons. So beyond what was already in the first draft as mentioned above, Bucky is made to be the fall guy to make the rest of the plot happen. Zemo’s release — well we can’t make Sam help break out the criminal that killed an African king so we’ll make Bucky do it, who cares if it makes no sense for his character. The counselling session — the show’s few moments of levity, doesn’t matter that it makes no sense but hey, forced homoeroticism is hilarious, isn’t it? The Wakandan three-way fight — I may be remembering this wrong but I think Skogland said it was one of the first scenes that she had planned for. That fight had to happen, and again Bucky was made to provoke the Wakandans to the point Seb had to step in and say, almost literally, “he would not fucking say that” to make them wind back the animosity between Bucky and Ayo. Sam’s suit — oh no we can’t have Sam asking for it himself that would be too egocentric, we also can’t have Wakandans offering because well, not like the plot actually made Sam a strong ally for Wakanda, so we get Bucky asking for Sam’s suit to be made minutes after he fixes his mistake of releasing Zemo. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t make sense if it’s Bucky doing it, cos I really think by this stage Spellman didn’t give a shit about a character that wasn’t supposed to be his responsibility in the first place. It’s like when you’re doing group project and your teammate bails on you, you’re gonna do just enough to get that pass but you ain’t putting in the effort for a distinction cos just looking at the unfinished work is pissing you off. So then Bucky also becomes the token white male who pushes all the wrong buttons during the few token racism scenes cos we gotta make Walker have some redeemable qualities and he’s already a dick so we can’t make him racist too.
So instead of having a thoughtful story about a veteran trying to grapple with his guilt and PTSD and lack of agency and making some mistakes along the way, you get a weird disjointed plot of some guy…with some bad dreams…who randomly does things for no good personal reason…who gets made the butt of the joke for the stuff he’s experienced cos he’s got a metal arm and super soldier serum how hard could it have been he just needs to go and apologise for killing people while simultaneously having multiple poignant scenes portraying his lack of agency.
Every writer who tells you “a hero is only as interesting as the villain” just secretly wants to write a simpable villain. And when that writer isn’t very skilled, you get the disaster of TFATWS where a lot of effort is spent on making Zemo funny and personable, and Walker nuanced and sympathetic, instead of making either of the titular heroes funny or personable or nuanced or sympathetic. And yeah, I really don’t think Spellman ever cared enough about Bucky to want to make him sympathetic…or a hero. Remember when he said Bucky pulling open the van door was the first time Bucky has ever been a hero? Fuck right off with that.

Life with One Arm: A Resource for Fic Writers
I've been writing Bucky fanfiction for over two years now, and in that time I've had a medical issue that has resulted in me losing the use of one arm twice for weeks to months at a time. So for any writers who wonder what challenges Bucky might have doing daily tasks with only one arm, read on.
Keep in mind this is based on my lived experience and may vary for other people. Also, since Bucky has super strength, a lot of the challenges I have would probably be easier for him. So below is a list of things for anyone who writes Bucky (or any character) one-armed and might be wondering what types of challenges to include. I've included the obvious ones as well as the less obvious ones:
Typing. It is possible to type with one hand, but of course it's slower and it tires out my hand and arm quickly. I wrote this primarily with voice dictation, using my one good hand to correct errors, etc.
Getting dressed. This includes putting on, pulling up, and fastening pants, buttoning/zippering things, and sometimes even getting on a shirt or jacket. Of course practice makes things easier. Bucky would likely have some difficulty in the beginning and get fairly good at it later on. He might try to zip up pants as follows: getting the top buttoned first, which is a little more difficult with one hand, and then leaning against the dresser or something to hold the material while he pulls up the zipper.
Putting hair up into a bun or a ponytail. It is virtually impossible with one hand, and the best I've been able to manage is to get it all gathered and twisted into one hand and then try to pin the bun or hair between my head and a wall or door jamb and then put a clip into it. It ends up messy and loose (if I'm successful, and many times I'm not).
Cutting things. Again almost impossible without some sort of tool that will hold bread and is specifically designed for that purpose. This includes bread, steak, chicken--anything that he has to cut up.
Eating a salad or bowl of oatmeal or something like that. Without a sticky mat or something to hold the bowl on the surface, the bowl slides around when you try to scoop out something.
Spreading anything on bread---cream cheese or peanut butter, for example.
Washing. You can watch one hand without another hand but it's a little challenging. Also, I don't see any way that Bucky would be able to wash under his right armpit easily (If he is flexible enough, he can reach it with the same hand, but it is hard and awkward). He might try sticking something to the shower wall that would let him scrub against it.
Brushing teeth. The actual brushing part isn't hard. The challenge can sometimes come from getting toothpaste onto the brush. I do it by setting the brush on the sink and then squeezing the tube onto the brush, but if the brush doesn't have a flat back (such as an electric one), it may roll around, and it can be hard to get the toothpaste out without pushing it against the bristles which can cause the brush to move.
Drying off after showering. It is almost impossible to wrap a towel around one's body with only one hand and of course to wash off the back. I tend to fling the towel behind me a few times. Sometimes I lean backward against the wall, with the towel against my back, and yank the towel up over my shoulder to soak up the water.
Driving. Without making modifications to a car, it is possible to drive, but it is more difficult. I don't think Bucky would be able to drive a motorcycle. He would have to drive an automatic if he needed to drive.
Ripping off a few sheets of toilet paper or a paper towel. This one gets easier with practice. You have to get the right speed and angle to rip it off in one go so the roll doesn't unravel more than you wanted or the sheet doesn't tear in half.
Carrying things. If you want a cup of coffee or tea and something to eat to go with it, you can't carry both with one hand, so you're making more than one trip. Need to turn a doorknob with a drink in your hand? Yeah, you're setting that on the floor first, if there's not a surface nearby.
Rolling up a bag of or something like that and putting a clip on it to keep it fresh. Really hard. Almost impossible to get it right.
Unscrewing things, especially things that are tightly screwed. I have a sticky mat that I put on my counter to unscrew bottle caps or jars. Sometimes I put a jar between my legs to hold and I'll use my one hand to undo the cap.
Putting covers on things. For example, taking the cover off of a cushion or pillow, especially one that has a snug fit to watch. Getting it off and getting the pillow out is easier than putting it back in. It is extremely difficult to do that with one hand.
Teeth become a second hand. For opening chips, draping a blanket or towel over your shoulders, or sometimes carrying things.
