Honda Motor announced plans to build a complete electric vehicle (EV) value chain in Canada, with an approximate C$15 billion (US$11 billion) investment, including joint venture partners, in order to bolster its EV supply chain and prepare for a future surge in demand in North America for EVs. Honda said it had started evaluating the requirements for the construction of an EV plant and an autonomous EV battery plant at Alliston, Ontario, and expects to begin electric vehicle production in 2028. The EV plant will have capacity to produce 240,000 EVs annually, while the battery plant will produce 36,000 GWh annually. The company expects to add at least 1,000 new employees for the EV plant and EV battery plants, in addition to the current 4,200 employees at its two Ontario factories.
