so uhhhh apparently i haven’t posted on this account in three months? which is silly because i’m here lurking all the time. but i am thinking about either transitioning this account to be a broader/more personal account, or switching over to a different account. just considering my options right now but it seems like the fundie tumblr world is really slowing down right now /-: i have lots of other interests i would love to blog about though! anyway hi to everyone who has stuck around and sorry for disappearing!
I am SO fascinated by occupancy of religious scrupulosity and OCD in religious influencers! I am honestly really impressed that Anneliese is able to recognize this about herself and I hope it allows her to recognize patterns and tendencies that might be maladaptive as a result of OCD and not write off every obsession and/or compulsion as coming from God.

I know a few people on here have wondered about this.
there is no fucking way that tiffany “revival rey and valor vidal” bonilla named her daughter after a fucking channel of water. girlie 100% thought it would be cute to name her daughter cece chanel like coco chanel, and/or thought being a mother/daughter pair of tiffany and chanel would be cute. but because her boys names have such deep spiritual meanings + connections to family she felt the need to over justify cielo chanel.
new follower here, you mentioned that you did your undergraduate thesis on evangelical influencer grifts? i'm a baby sociology student (rising sophomore) and would Love to hear about it.
(the american religious right is one of my special interests)
hiya! i double majored in sociology and religion; my religion senior thesis was about multi level marketing and the mormon church. even though it was a religion thesis and not a soc thesis, i relied heavily upon max weber’s the protestant ethic and the spirit of capitalism. essentially i argued that mlms and mormonism function in many of the same ways, particularly in the emphasis on financial contribution as a mark of a woman’s independence while maintaining traditional gender roles. because that intersection of financial ethic and traditional gender expectations exists in both groups, there is a significant population of women who occupy both groups. and both mlms and the church have used this overlapping population to their advantage: the church benefits when influencers with large mlm followings also promote the church, and many mlms have leaned into the gender roles and limited financial freedom to recruit further distributors.
this is a topic i absolutely love and hope to do more research on if/when i do a sociology phd! and i’d love to expand my research more broadly to evangelical social media usage and the socialization that occurs in evangelical social media space. my sociology thesis was actually also doing sociology of religion, i wrote about how lgbtq+ folks find community and make meaning in progressive christian churches.
When did Jessa come out as being anti IBLP? (genuinely asking not arguing! I'm so out of the loop)
Disclaimer to say she hasn't ever openly talked about it, it's just my personal opinion based on what she's done publicly to support Jill:
1. Jessa doesn't do a lot on social media, so her likes and supportive comments on Jill's posts mentioning IBLP seem to me to be very purposeful. That and when people were shit talking the Duggars for not going to Jill's most recent baby shower, Jessa made a point to say that she WAS there and that Jill does have her support, and pointed out that they do hangout but just 'don't document' every second (she says it's because they're in the moment, my opinion is that the Duggars are very careful about social media and just don't post a lot anyway, so even if they did take pics they don't post them to fend off drama. But that's harder to explain concisely).
2. I think Ben Seewald being instrumental in Jinger's religious transformation is also pretty solid evidence, and per that story Jessa was also involved.
3. I don't think the pants thing is inconsequential either. The Gothard/IBLP/ATI standard of female beauty is very, very specific so I think deviations from that are worth noting (and Jessa has adjusted her modesty standards a little bit, including wearing pants. Something I think would be hard for her to reconcile if she were still practicing, esp given the way she was raised).
That's not to say Jessa is in any way progressive, I just think she's def not the Gothard stan her parents are and I think that applies to a lot of the Duggar sisters. They are just low key about it to avoid rocking the already sinking boat.
Being this conservative must be exhausting. Every 2 weeks you have to get mad and boycott some stupid shit that wasn't even made for you in the first place.
Thanks for the update JackNemy, hope your wedding's outdoors and there's a thunderstorm AND a tornado. At the same time.
