They make you look refined?” A few steps forward, tilting his head to the side slightly. “If the definition of refined has suddenly changed to has a small head, sure, yeah, they make you look REFINED.”

                  it’s  better  than  anything,  that  feeling  when  they’re  flying,  the  wind  shrieking  in  his  ears  and  the  undercut  of  the  breathless  wind.  flying’s  everything  like  throwing  your  body  to  the  ground  and  missing,  out  here  in  the  desert  where  it’s  them,  the  sand,  and  the  ache  of  a  sky  stretched  out  and  settled  around  them  and  not  above.  they  land  with  a  crash,  all  shaking  coltish  limbs  and  sam  falls  against  that  familiar  weight  of  him,  laughing  and  breathless  with  the  effortlessness  of  this  :  of  them,  of  flight.  

                    sam  tilts  his  head  up  and  looks  at  the  crown  of  riley’s  head  set  against  the  dying  of  the  light  and  it’s  this  :  the  quick  hot  press  of  sam’s  mouth  against  riley’s  own,  heated  in  the  sheer  rush  of  the  moment,  because  what’s  better  than  this,  having  looked  our  past  the  horizon  and  seen  the  blurred  edged  of  him,  adrenaline  making  sam  bold,  making  sam  want.  they’re  a  little  like  icarus  but  sam  ?  sam  won’t  let  them  burn.  the  scratch  of  his  stumble,  against  sam’s  chin,  and  sand.  if  this  is  all  he  has,  all  he  could  have,  then  god,  he’d  be  happy.  snd  they  ?  they’d  be  free.
