*meaning gay as the specific identity that refers to attraction to men, not gay as an umbrella term for queer
(version of this poll for straight trans men here)

“Why would you name yourself Theodorus” it is such a mystery . Why would a Greek person name themselves a Greek name. Scientists will never know the answer .

i really hate how online queer discourse has become “which flavor of trans person is most acceptable to treat like absolute shit”

I call myself a trans man, bc explaining that I feel like a man and a women and a bug all at once is too complicated to explain to people.

Your insecurity about your gender or sexuality is no one's problem but your own. Stop telling other people how they can and cant identify because it makes you feel uncomfortable or dysphoric or inferior in some way. Get a grip people

sorry I literally forgot what my sexuality was for a moment and accidentally voted in your straight trans men poll 😔 please disregard one 'no, it's misgendering' vote
Fascinated as to how you managed to forget your sexuality but thank you for letting me know

So I’m on a trip with my robotics team and there’s only two “girls” (me, an enby, and a cis girl), so we get our own beds in our own room, but the guys are rooming four to a room, but there’s only two beds in each room. Which means that two guys are sleeping on the floor every night.
I’m not joking. They were literally arguing over who’s sleeping on the floor tonight (apparently they plan on rotating).
And I asked them “why don’t you just share a bed?” And they all gave me the same answer:
“No, that’s weird! That’d be gay!”
And I just looked at them and I decided to break the bad news to them
“If lying next to another guy makes you wanna suck dick, you already wanted to suck dick.”
I’ve never seen so many Straight Guys™️ enraged by a single sentence before

Hi so I was wondering if I'm alone in this and you're one of the transhet guys I follow so I'm asking you :) hope you don't mind
So some joke I've seen a lot of gay trans guys make in response to the "you're just a confused lesbian" is "haha silly transphobes don't know I'm gay",, or just holding an mlm flag.
And I personally always felt kinda thrown under the bus? Cause not every trans guy is gay and not everyone can answer it with those jokes.
As in, to me, it feels like they're implying transhetero guys are just "confused lesbians". That gay trans guys are either the default or that transhetero guys are less than? That the thing that makes them more trans is their attraction to men or something.
I know it's just a joke and I don't really care that much, but I always felt a little iffy. Just wanted to know if there's anyone that can relate.
You're definitely not alone in that! It's something I've been thinking about for a while actually, but struggling to articulate it.
It just kind of feels like if that's the main argument against "you're only trans because you're a confused lesbian" or "trans men are just confused lesbians", it sort of implies the existence of gay/bi/aroace/otherwise non-straight trans men is why "trans men are just confused lesbians" is wrong, and not the fact that it's still wrong when directed at straight trans men. But that's not something people tend to acknowledge.
There's something to be said about how someone telling a gay/non-straight trans man "you're just a confused lesbian" makes the assumption that trans men are straight, and how that's shitty- but when that's the only thing people acknowledge, it completely ignores the way straight trans men are specifically targeted and misgendered by this sentiment, and that fucking sucks.
I do think the "you're just a confused lesbian" "i'm literally a gay man" jokes can be funny on occasion, but when that's the only (or even primary) way the community talks about the "confused lesbian" sentiment... it does feel a bit iffy to me as well.
