i think the monster eating would be a lot more traumatic if we run parallels to how he survived three months in the burial mounds (a somewhat compelling stand in for the dungeon, tbh) and his time as a child in yiling

but also i’d love to see how his invention-addled brain was partnered with laois

his own takes on necromancy and resenterer filtered through the lens of dark/ancient magic

idk i just think both the worlds and themes and the casts bounce off each other in interesting ways

i hate when people frame wei wuxian's sacrificial behaviour as not valuing himself--as low self esteem, as thinking he's worthless--when much of it is exactly the opposite.

he strongly believes in his own moral sense, he strongly believes in what he owes, and he also firmly knows exactly what he can do. a lot of his sacrifice is because he believes he can survive the consequences better than anyone else and he so strongly believes in his capacity to be just that he wants to bear the burden of it when he thinks no one else can. he knows himself, knows what he believes, and thinks he can do the most, sometimes to the point of over confidence or just not thinking far enough into the future to really map out the aftermath.

he knows he can accomplish what he needs to in the moment and will deal with the rest later.

obviously, there's some insecurity in how he clearly doesn't see how much other people love him but it isn't entirely out of nowhere. no one DID love him enough in his first life, very few people DID stand by him when he got hard. he loves so much and so hard that of course everything else pales in comparison and seems lackluster. it WAS lackluster. just about everyone could've done more or at least loved him more clearly.

almost every loving relationship he had in his first life had caveats, obligations, barriers. like... yeah, it's hard to even see his insecurity in those relationships as irrational as opposed to just... aware?

so i really just do not like fic or headcanons where he just... doesn't believe in himself and that's the source of insecurity. that's really not his problem. he knows how smart he is, how powerful he is, how accomplished and capable he is, how handsome he is. he is just... rightfully aware of how that's often not enough for other people.

and he doesn't WANT to sacrifice himself, lose himself (at least until the very end when he had little choice in the matter) but he often knows if he doesn't, no one else will, and he can't live with a version of himself who isn't the best, the most just any more than he can live with the sacrifice
