i'm begging you guys to start pirating shit from streaming platforms. there are so many websites where you can stream that shit for free, here's a quick HOW TO:

1) Search for: watch TITLE OF WORK free online

2) Scroll to the bottom of results. Click any of the "Complaint" links

3) You will be taken to a long list of links that were removed for copyright infringement. Use the 'find' function to search for the name of the show/movie you were originally searching for. You will get something like this (specifics removed because if you love an illegal streaming site you don't post its url on social media)

4) each of these links is to a website where you can stream shit for free. go to the individual websites and search for your show/movie. you might have to copy-paste a few before you find exactly what you're looking, but the whole process only takes a minute. the speed/quality is usually the same as on netflix/whatever, and they even have subtitles! (make sure to use an adblocker though, these sites are funded by annoying popups)

In conclusion, if you do this often enough you will start recognizing the most dependable websites, and you can just bookmark those instead. (note: this is completely separate from torrenting, which is also a beautiful thing but requires different software and a vpn)

Ursula K. Le Guin's 1969 novel The Left Hand of Darkness was a big deal in feminist science fiction for being one of the first widely popular and critically acclaimed works to do cool shit with sex and gender (which was certainly nothing new, but previous such works had rarely "taken off" the way LHoD did). It was criticized for referring to the genderfluid characters with the indefinite "he," which was a la mode in style guides at the time, instead of using alternating or gender-neutral pronouns. In time Le Guin came to agree with this criticism; she considered her decision not to take things further one of her biggest literary regrets, stating that "I am haunted and bedeviled by the matter of the pronouns."

I tell you this only because the phrase "I am haunted and bedeviled by the matter of the pronouns" is one I think about a lot.

Where humorists believed that all illness was the result of an imbalance of the humors, Paracelsus believed this was only scratching the surface. He believed that humoric imbalances were themselves only symptoms of a deeper problem; conflict between the fundamental forces that made up the body. Paracelsus outlines three different types of disease: One: There are natural diseases, problems which result from physical damage or imbalance of the body. A broken leg, a poisoning, starvation, etc. These were easily treated by keeping the patient clean and safe while the bodies natural healing abilities did their work.  Two: There are astral diseases, problems which result from the influence of the greater macrocosm. Meaning, Paracelsus believed that when the planet Mars passes over your country, it bathes that physical location in Mars Energy, an abundance of which can cause some materials to produce clouds of poison and corruption. This was his theoretical explanation for mass illnesses.  Curiously enough, this was also his explanation for psychological illnesses. Consider how an interaction with an angry stranger can ruin one’s mood for the rest of the day. Paracelsus points out the physiological effects of strong emotions on the body, and quite logically ties this into his hermetic theory of disease. If reading a nasty letter can affect the body, surely the signs in the stars also affect the body. These were tricky to treat, requiring a good deal of astrological math to produce metal amulets stamped with the signs of the planets to counteract the mix of astral forces causing the illness.  Three: Divine diseases. There are some illnesses which resist all attempts at treatment. God has decided that you must shit your brains out. Perhaps this is a punishment for some sin, perhaps it is not. It is not for the doctor to question the divine will. The only thing to do is pray.
