im noticing that for a lot of americans “free palestine” has been an ideological motto and symbol rather than them actually believing in their heart that freedom is attainable and necessary

I understand that there have been talks about an Israeli invasion of Rafah and I understand how absolutely catastrophic that would be for what is potentially the most packed area in the world, but I just want to point out that it feels like everyone is anticipating with fear a potential assault on Rafah whereas attacks and airstrikes are already happening and in fact they never even stopped for over 6 months now.
Keep talking about Rafah and keep talking about Gaza. There are absolutely no "safe zones" in Gaza and there never have been.

good evening! my girlfriend is raising funds to urgently evacuate dr. abdul rahman al-ashqar to egypt from gaza. before october 7th, abdul was training as a surgeon in al-shifa hospital, which was stormed by israeli forces. the surgical building was bombed. abdul is now a refugee in north gaza, displaced from the very hospital where he once worked, a hospital where mass graves upon mass graves have been uncovered. every day that abdul stays in gaza is a day his life is in jeopardy. any amount helps.
this fundraiser is directly vetted—dr. al-ashqar studied medicine in palestine with samar, a palestinian friend of erica's from high school who is co-coordinating the fundraising. every dollar raised here will be transferred via western union and go towards the $5000 USD needed for his safe passage into egypt, with additional funds used for housing, food, and survival in egypt. please message me with any questions you have and please, please share widely!

lovers, of course, are notoriously frantic epistemologists, second only to paranoiacs (and analysts) as readers of signs and wonders.

I wanted to wake up and find that I was five years old and my parents and neighbors would say, “My, my, what an imagination.” I wanted to be physically erased and start over again. I didn’t want to be here. I didn’t want to be there. I guess I wanted to be nowhere, I wanted to listen to my brain talk inside of nothingness. I wanted to be untouchable and have no need…

April is the month of expectations and possibilities. A leucistic Sandhill Crane certainly qualifies for the latter.

The flip side of the post-World War II cries of “Never again” was an unspoken “Never before.” The insistence on lifting the Holocaust out of history, the failure to recognize these patterns, and the refusal to see where the Nazis fit inside the arc of colonial genocides have all come at a high cost. The countries that defeated Hitler did not have to confront the uncomfortable fact that Hitler had taken pointers and inspiration on race-making and on human containment from them, leaving their innocence not only undisturbed but also significantly strengthened by what was indeed a righteous victory.
