            i’ve been thinking about the information i gained about nefertari the other night so let me just.  ramble for a second.  due to the finding of her mummified knees, we know she more than likely had arthritis and arteriosclerosis ( this is only known in her legs since... that’s all of her body that has been found ) on top of whatever illness more than likely killed her.  

            now, i cannot see nefertari as someone who easily succumbed to her pain.  even before being sick she didn’t let her pain in her body stop her from doing anything, especially ruling next to ozymandias.  i honestly cannot even see her telling him unless he points out how her movements have been slower or her inability to play with her kids or lift them like she used to.  and when it came to her being ill, she definitely ruled until she literally could not anymore.  while she’s very in tune with her emotions, she is not overly emotional around people.  i really couldn’t see her crying around people as she would rather be an anchor for the people in her life.  

              idk what i’m saying anymore this is really just me rambling. i love nefertari.

            “please don’t apologize… you didn’t choose to leave us.” he still clings to her, still crying like a little boy. “I… i was so scared that it was my fault… and i was too afraid to ask father…” from the memories he received of his grown self, meryatum could tell that the guilt never fully vanished, that he had always been afraid that his mother’s death had something to do with him being the youngest, that his birth had been too much. “…I am sor— sorry. a prince shouldn’t cry.”

              “ you can cry.  you might be a prince, but you still have emotions and you are free to express them.”  advice she never used herself, but that did not keep her from giving it to him.  after a small squeeze, she leaned back to carefully wipe the tears from his face.  “ i was given another chance to see you, so please know i am here for you always, my little sun. ”

no. no it had not been his fault… and if he dared to interpret her words, then she held no grudge. he really had tried to appear like a grown up, but his heart is still that of a child… though he does turn away from his mother, it is clear that he is crying.

“I— I am glad. if… if it had been my fault I.. I could not have looked you or father in the face anymore I… the guilt and shame would have been too much.”

            once again, her arms wrap around him, pulling him into a tight hug.  her hand reaching up to carefully pet his hair.  no matter how old he was, he was still her little boy it seemed.  and she would gladly still offer him comfort as his mother.  “ it is alright, i know it must have been a thought haunting you for a while.  i’m sorry i left you and that you even had thought it was your fault.  i wish i could have reassured you sooner... ”

“that’s good” now that he could look back on his childhood, he realized the little hints that had been there, even before her pain became visible to everyone. he leans into her touch, a slight blush on his cheeks. but then the smile drops and his gaze shifts away, clearly nervous “I… wondered… was having me too much for your body?” he had been her last child and those thoughts always plagued him.

             “ no. ”  her answer was almost immediate. it simply upset her to know he even thought such a thing.  it was understandable, being the youngest and the one she couldn’t play with as much as she did the others.  “ having you was a blessing from the gods.  you have never and will never be ‘too much’ as you say.  i am happy to have had you, to have the honor of being your mother even if it was only for a short amount of time. ”

                         “alright. first question then …are you in any pain?”

             this should have been expected considering the boy’s last memories of her were majority her plagued by pain.   a soft smile forms and she gently cups his cheeks in her hands.  “ as a servant, i am pain-free.  there is no need for you to worry about that, my little sun. ”  and with that, she gently squishes his cheeks.
