Large quantity of illegal IMFL seized in Guwahati

Guwahati: Acting on a tip-off, Gorchuk police on Friday night conducted a search operation at Pooja Parking at Betkuchi in Guwahati and recovered 20 cartons of Kingfisher Beer.

In a similar case, Basistha police on Friday seized 90 bottles of IMFL from Raju Dhaba, located on the National Highway. Interestingly, the bottles were kept hidden in a car behind the dhaba.

Arrests can cause incalculable harm to the reputation and self-esteem of a person, the Supreme Court said, as it implored the police officers not to make the arrest a routine affair just because the law arms them with the power to do so.

Tripura CM escapes an accident; Three held

Agartala: Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb has reportedly escaped an accident on Thursday night when he was on his usual evening walk.

Sources said that after his security personnel noticed a speeding vehicle was approaching him near IGM Chowmuhani in Agartala and immediately moved him. Three youths were nabbed by police later.

Police sources said the incident happened when the chief minister was proceeding towards his official residence after completing his evening walk when one of the policemen accompanying him noticed the speedy car approaching towards them.

HS results declared: 14 districts secured 100% pass percentage

Guwahati: The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) has declared the class 12 (Higher Secondary) final exam 2021 results.

A total of 14 districts in the state have 100% pass percentage. The districts are: Dima Hasao, Charaideo, Biswanath, Chirang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kokrajhar, Majuli, Morigaon, Nalbari, South Salmara, Udalguri, and West Karbi Anglong.

GUWAHATI:  The small tea growers’ associations in Assam have demanded a minimum support price (MSP) for their production.

On Friday, state’s industries and commerce minister Chandra Mohan Patoway met the representatives of small tea growers’ associations of the state.

The association in a statement said that the meeting discussed in detail all the issues and challenges related to the small tea growers of Assam.

BJP leader booked for raping minor girl in Tripura

Agartala: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a BJP booth president at Kapalitila area of Maharanipur under Teliamura police station, about 46 KMs away from Agartala city.

As per reports, one Shyamal Sarkar, president of Booth No. 24 of Krishnapur assembly constituency, allegedly raped a 16-year-old girl in the area for a month about eight months back.

The minor girl was presently reported to be seven months pregnant.

Man kills wife for refusing to give Rs 10 for ‘Gutkha’ in Nalbari

Guwahati: A 45-year-old man allegedly killed his wife after she refused to give him Rs 10 to buy ‘gutkha’ in Nalbari district of Assam.

The incident occurred on Saturday at Chataimari village under Mukalmua police station in Nalbari district. The deceased has been identified as Bakuli Haloi (38).

The accused, Narayan Haloi, reportedly asked his wife Rs 10 to buy gutkha. On refusing to give him the money, enraged Narayan repeatedly kicked Bakuli, in the fit of rage, resulting in her death.

Nagaland reports 93 Delta variant cases, 2 Kappa, 1 Alpha cases

Guwahati: Genome sequencing of 98 COVID-19 samples from Nagaland revealed the presence of Delta variant (B.1.617.2) in as many as 93 of them on Friday.The state’s health and family welfare department informed that the results of the samples for whole genome sequencing were sent to National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG), Kalyani in West Bengal.Moreover, two cases of Kappa variant and once of Alpha were also detected.
