✨The edblrr saga: stupid and wrong advice about calories✨

Part one: a compilation of nonsense
Lie: it’s “calories in calories out”
Truth: sure, but multiple factor effect how many calories go “out” and 99% of people are not calculating that properly
Lie: 2000 calories is the correct number to eat
Truth: this varies WILDLY person to person. It could be not enough, perfect, or too much
Lie: 1200 calories is a good number for weight loss
Truth: same as above
Lie: your body can survive on just a few hundred calories a day
Truth: if you give that enough time it will most likely kill you
Lie: if you eat X amount of calories your body will use it for the most important functions so you will be fine
Truth: your body can limit where calories go to an extent (see: hair loss to save energy). Enough of a deficit will still cause you body to fuck with or shut down organs though
Lie: fasting makes your body process calories differently so they have less effect
Truth: no. It does not. It can help regulate blood sugar, which can help you not gain weight, but that’s about it
Lie: it doesn’t matter what you eat as long as you keep a calorie deficit
Truth: what you eat can VASTLY effect how the calories from food function. Also you probably have malnutrition and exceptionally fucked up hunger hormones
Lie: the calorie count listed on the package is what your body will get from the food
Truth: this is painful, but no. The way they measure the calories in food is not accurate to how your body uses them. There is also a LARGE margin of error for those numbers
Lie: there are foods with negative calories
Truth: sadly, no. When people calculate “your body burns more calories than this contains by digesting it” they are doing math and biology wrong
Lie: purging gets rid of the calories you before your body absorbs them
Truth: yes but no, it only partially reduces the amount (and you end up missing out on most of the fiber)
Lie: artificial sweetener doesn’t have any calories
Truth: One serving is approximately zero calories. However, our bodies react to artificial sweeteners really similarly to sugars. This means you can still get weight gain and insulin resistance (moderation yo)
