On this day, 25 May 1926, Ukrainian Jewish anarchist Shalom Schwartzbard approached Symon Petliura on Rue Racine in Paris’ Latin Quarter and asked him, “Are you Mr. Petliura?” before shooting him five times shouting “This for the pogroms; this for the massacres; this for the victims.” When police arrived, Schwartzbard told them “I have killed a great assassin.” Petliura had been Supreme Commander of the Ukrainian Army during the Russian Revolution and ensuing civil war during which approximately 50,000 Jews were murdered in pogroms (including 14 members of Schwartzbard’s family). Schwartzbard, who previously took part in the Russian revolution as a member of the Revolutionary Insurgent Army of the Ukraine (aka the Makhnovists), was put on trial for Petliura’s murder. He was acquitted after the jury decided Petliura got what he deserved. For more information on Shalom Schwartzbard’s revolutionary life, read his biography here: https://libcom.org/history/schwartzbard-shalom-1886-1938 https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1434914983360314/?type=3

On this day, 29 March 1986, anti-fascists got wind of a secret meeting which was due to take place in the small Dutch town of Kedichem to reunify two fascist political parties: the Centrum Partij and Centrum Democraten. They initially threw a smoke bomb into the hotel where the meeting was taking place, however it accidentally set the curtains on fire and within minutes the building went up in flames, causing the fascists to have to flee into the rioting outside. The proposed merger didn’t take place. We have anti-fascist merch available in our online store to help fund our work. Check it out here: https://shop.workingclasshistory.com/collections/anti-fascist https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1386898041495342/?type=3

Y’all do realize we do hold all the power right? Like if we all decided to not pay our upcoming rent they couldn’t do anything about it. Like if we all just say no.

mitt fucking romney proposed $1000 per person and you come back with this?? (this is also $250 per person because it counts each “working family” as two people)
we are in an unprecedented situation. this entire epidemic has been mishandled from the WH at every turn, and there actually is a way for democrats to come out of this on top. but if you run to the right of republicans here you will be fucking demolished for generations.

February 10 2020, Paris - Climate activists invaded the headquarters of BlackRock, a financial multinational that is influencing France’s government to privatize their pension system, and that heavily invests in the fossil fuel industry. Protesters blockaded themselves inside and redecorated the offices, destroying their awards and throwing them in the trash. The social struggle and climate struggle are one! [video]

“Why should a French or a German citizen be born with access to world-class services and well-protected rights (actual implementation on the basis of minority status may differ), while a Somalian citizen is not only denied those things, but also faces huge obstacles in becoming a citizen (or even a resident) of anywhere else? If you are born a citizen of Japan, there are 190 countries you can travel to freely without a visa; if you are a citizen of Afghanistan, there are only 25. If you are born a U.K. citizen, and feel like a change of scene, you can pay $7 for permission to go to Canada, hop on a flight, and stay for up to six months without anyone bothering you. If you are born in a refugee camp, it can take years before you even get a chance to live in a place like Canada. So how can we possibly consider ourselves to be people who care about freedom and autonomy, when thanks to borders our destinies are practically assigned to us at birth? Is it absurd to form your own state? Or is it more absurd to have states in the first place?”
