My cat is so dumb. He immediately starts purring anytime I walk near him. I don't even need to do anything.

adrien’s never been used to a lot of noise in the first place.

when he goes over to marinette’s place for the first time; its almost scary how differently they live. where he lacks, she always picks up. she fills in the silence when he doesn’t feel like talking and even more so when he cant. bouncing legs, pencils on paper, the rhythmic clicking of her sewing machine, background music because she can’t focus without it—adrien’s never been used to something other than silence. marinette makes music by just being alive. whenever they’re apart (which is never), they face time, and he listens to her hum while she sews him a jacket they worked on the design for together. full of spikes. she pricks her fingers constantly, and he’s always the one to bandage her up if he’s there (she’s too focused to stop). he walks around his empty house and feels less alone with her in his hand, even if its just on the phone. phones are made for talking, though, aren’t they? marinette never makes him feel like he has to. on bad days, neither of them have to. others, she sits him down and does his makeup. listens when he does talk. or offers to give him a piercing in which he inevitably agrees to because of course he’d let her stab him with a needle. he’d let her do anything, really. marinette’s just fine holding the eyeliner. or a needle. or his pinky finger while they walk. she hasn’t gotten used to the hand holding-thing yet.

AUUUUGGGGH SUNNY HAS ME SCREAMING INTO THE VOID ON THIS ONE

I am just...insane for parallels like this. It's literally a "true love's kiss will break the curse" situation (sort of...the kiss enables the akuma to be broken). These kids are having their fairy tale moment. Maybe it's not the best one, but its there.

And now that I'm actually seeing it side by side (thank you again Sunny for burning this into my retinas) I'm thinking about the akumatised objects and what they mean or symbolise.

Chat's bell has has various discussions around it, and I believe Astruc himself confirmed that it was representative of Adrien's want of a home. Adrien wants somewhere he can be safe and loved. In Chat Blanc, that want is threatened and then destroyed when reality comes crashing in. It isn't until Ladybug travels through Bunnyx's Burrow that Chat Blanc is able to see a shred of that love and safety again.

Chat Blanc and Ladybug do fight it out of course, but only while she denies and resists everything he's telling her. When she finally leans into the possibility that they were in love and together -when she finally physically leans into kiss Chat - its only then that he is vulnerable enough for her to save him. Deep down he knows Ladybug wouldn't hurt him and wants him to help her. He trusts her just as much as he loves her.

Meanwhile is Exaltation, the akumatised object is the rose. Roses are obviously the flower for romance, and its already been established that Chat has put in work to know the different meanings behind different rose colours. This is definitely a moment of love that they had been chasing.

So why does Marinette almost get akumatised? Because the love and safety she had been craving so deeply was being threatened. She wants to be able to love and to be able to do it safely. She thinks she finds that in Chat and they do briefly have it - that is until Chat remembers the reality of their situation. Reality comes crashing in again.

Only this time they're able to break the akumatisation. As much as it hurts, they can have that one moment. Instead of fighting their feelings, for that one moments they can just love each other. And its enough for Marinette's vulnerability to shift. Because she is vulnerable. But instead of it being something for Monarch to prey upon, its a vulnerability she is willing to share with Chat. Because she is hurt. She is heartbroken. But so is he. Marinette wants to let him help her because she knows only he can. He's the one she trusts, just as much as she loves him.

Love led them both to akumatisation. But neither times was it their fault. Love just allowed them to open up parts of themselves, parts that Monarch abused and took advantage of. But even though it was love that set the series of events in motion, it always came down to the love, trust and safety they share to save each other.
