I’ve gone insane and started writing a cliche fantasy novel

So roses, most everyone likes a rose right? It just makes sense to have them in your fantasy setting, maybe even give em a few new impossible colours that ones in the real world cant have.

And why not have some imitation roses, plants the via natural selection or genetic modification and domestication have been made to look like roses. And while yes there could be an interesting story about finding who's selling people fake roses, I feel it'd be much more interesting to give said fake roses interesting or supernatural effects.

What if one of the fakes when planted acted like a weed spreading a vast web of roots through the ground searching and sapping other plants of their nutrients and water eventually sprouting new roses from its web of roots with the hope the they'll also be plucked from the earth by unsuspecting humans to planted somewhere else so that the cycle may continue again.

Oh and maybe they don't necessarily have to be planted, maybe just being left in some dirt for a short enough period will let them start to spread

And why not go further with that idea, instead of merely being rose weeds why not have them be actively supernaturally parasitic.

While simply existing around outside of the ground have them slowly syphon the very life out of things around them keeping themselves looking as healthy and fresh as ever. Hell why not even have the fact that they maintain that freshly picked look be a way for less than scrupulous sellers to market them.

Well now for the final spookiest final 'roses but kinda messed up' idea.

Imagine a massive bed of roses close the the ground. The flowers vibrant deep red in colour and are so numerous and voluminous that they look like you could jump in and get lost in them.

Amongst this bed are a few patches of uncovered land looking like islands amidst the ocean of surroundings roses.

On one of these islands lays a sleeping fawn, although it's islands looks a little different to the others. The rest are for the most part clean and relatively wide open spaces circular with only some of the plants breaking in. The one which the fawn lays upon however is far more messy looking with plants falling into the island some even laying over the fawns sleeping form.

Days pass the island and the fawn are gone.

Escaping hunters a wild bore runs, scrambling down a hill to a quiet and little know area, before it's mind can calm and check the surroundings of where it has escaped to it runs and trips hoof first into the roses.

Within moments it too vanishes into the roses, their thorn like fang ripping through its body spilling it's blood over them and the ground to drink and gain nutrients from. Whatever remains of the bore will be dragged deep underground to help hide any evidence of this being anything other than a slight odd bed of roses.

And now for a totally different tone as I info dump about these vampire roses I made up.

Because of the whole drinking the blood of their victims thing I'd imagine that if one of these began to wither that it's petals would start to oxide and turn a rusty orange.

I'd also imagine that thorn fang things they have on their stems would suck blood, meaning that if someone angrily grips the stems of a boutique of these things in a moment of heated emotion it's entirety possible that instead of just have a blood hand in a moment a of drama they'll just be passed out of from blood loss.

Also I'd imagine that in places where people know about how these roses work they could probably find a way to use the petals or bulbs for medical purposes. Although it might be frowned upon a little due to the whole "these might have eaten a person" thing.

Oh and at some point if there's too much blood flowing through the roses plant veins and the ground and plants are oversaturated I think the collective magical spirit of the plant would make a weird plant creature using the bones of something it dragged under as a base for its form, which'd then scamper offer somewhere else to plant it's biomass to form a new patch.

They'd also do something similar to create humanoid rose knight creatures who either defend the plants from potential threats or capture new blood to drink if their thirsty.

Oh and maybe the rose knights would eventually just get bored and wander off to go do its own thing, feasting on blood as it roams the land.

Speaking of blood, vampires would definitely be all about these roses and would definitely be eating their bloody rose hips and drinking tea made with their petals.

They'd also exclusively fuel the roses with blood from people, hell they'd probably have a balcony that hangs just over a bed of them so that that they can dramatically push/scare victims over the edge so that they fall into the roses to be devoured.

Also because vampires would definitely find a way to weaponize the roses as a way to be extra dramatic.

The main way I think they'd do it is by specifically breeding and domesticating a variety to function as a whip which instead of roots just has a very long very flexible very resilient very thorny stem.

Another way would be by having having the plant grow around one of their arms and training it to respond to certain magical signals letting them strike out with what are effectively rose tentacles that allow the user to tear apart or grab whatever they wish.

Using theses weapons would of course take a toll on the users requiring them to drink more blood that usually as so that the weapons they wield don't drain them dry.

Oh and yeah that plants are domesticated but there should still be a big risk with using them.

So why not have that risk be the possibility of the plants slowly invading and possessing the the body of the vampire using them in search of more blood, turning them into a possibly eternally suffering plant controlled husk.

Or maybe just have them kill the vampire using them normally idk.

I’ll never understand why anthropomorphic animal cartoons like Robin Hood and Zootopia will go to the trouble of creating character designs that are meant to be understood as “attractive” or even “sexy” to the human audience but explicitly avoid showing interspecies romances between anthropomorphic animals. Why is THAT weird but, like, trying to make rabbits recognizably sexy-coded to humans isn’t?
