Cleaning Myths Debunked: Separating Fact From Fiction
Cleaning myths abound, but it's time to set the record straight and distinguish fact from fiction. Firstly, the idea that more cleaning product equals better results is a myth; excessive chemicals can be counterproductive and harmful. Another common misconception is that antibacterial products are always necessary; most household surfaces only require regular cleaning with soap and water. The belief that cleaning windows on a sunny day leads to streaks is false; proper technique matters more. Furthermore, microwaving a sponge doesn't completely sanitize it; replace it regularly instead. Lastly, the myth that eco-friendly cleaning products are less effective is outdated; many green alternatives are just as potent. Separating fact from fiction in cleaning practices can lead to more efficient, safe, and eco-conscious cleaning routines.

How To Clean Patio Pavers Without Pressure Washer
Cleaning patio pavers without a pressure washer is a simple and effective process. Start by removing loose debris using a broom or leaf blower. Next, prepare a cleaning solution by mixing equal parts of water and white vinegar or a mild detergent. Apply the solution to the pavers using a stiff-bristled brush or a scrubbing broom. Scrub the surface thoroughly, focusing on any stained or dirty areas. For stubborn stains, make a paste using baking soda and water, apply it to the stains, and let it sit for a few minutes before scrubbing. Rinse the pavers with clean water and let them air dry. Regular maintenance and periodic cleaning will keep your patio pavers looking fresh and inviting.

West Coast Wilderness Railway to shut for winter, with local businesses bracing for drop in trade
Tumblr media
An iconic Tasmanian tourist attraction will close for winter and local businesses are treating a foreseen drop in visitor numbers as a necessary blow. The West Coast Wilderness Railway will undergo major upgrades, with the railway expected to be back up and running in time for the summer tourism season.
It comes after a diesel locomotive derailed last month on the route back to Strahan while 90 people were onboard.
All Strahan services were cancelled and will remain closed until the project is completed.

Dozens of new illegal 4WD, bike tracks go over sacred Aboriginal sites in Tasmania every year, map shows
Tumblr media
On Tasmania's far north-west tip, you'll find a rugged, ancient landscape. Preminghana is sacred, home to Aboriginal rock art and middens from thousands of years ago.
It sits close to the Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area — which is also recognised by all levels of government as heritage that needs to be protected, history in need of urgent preservation.
But the Aboriginal rangers who patrol it say it's being destroyed, little by little, by four-wheel drivers and bikers who stray from the tracks and venture onto the nearby sites.

Hobart City Council to vote on expanded conflict of interest registry
Tumblr media
A new policy to proactively declare councillors' potential conflicts of interests before they arise is set to be voted on at a Hobart City Council meeting this evening.
If passed, it will bring the council in line with other capital city councils around Australia.
Under the new policy, how many properties councillors own, which companies they hold shares in, and major income sources could all become publicly available from April.
What would have to be disclosed? Under the Local Government Act, there is already a requirement for councillors to declare a potential conflict or pecuniary interest in matters before they come up in council meetings, as well as a requirement to declare any gifts received.

Hobart house values drop of 7pc a 'cooling' rather than a 'plummet'
Tumblr media
A decrease in buyer FOMO — fear of missing out — and rising interest rates have combined to push Hobart property values down by nearly 7 per cent in 2022. Hobart dwelling prices declined 5 per cent in the last quarter of 2022, and 1.9 per cent in December alone, according to the latest data from property analysts CoreLogic.
The 6.9 per cent drop in value over the year was the third greatest of any Australian capital city, behind only Sydney (-12.1 per cent) and Melbourne (-8.1 per cent).
Nationwide, property values are down 5.3 per cent this year, the first fall in national values since 2018.

Hobart AFL stadium business case released, seeking $240 million from federal government
Tumblr media
The Tasmanian government has detailed how it proposes to fund a $715 million roofed stadium at Macquarie Point in Hobart, the timeline for construction and how it would integrate into the city. Premier Jeremy Rockliff handed over the final business case to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Thursday, seeking $240 million — one-third of the total — in Commonwealth funding starting in 2026-27.
The stadium cost is cheaper than the $750 million floated when it was first proposed, and the requirement for Commonwealth funding has dropped from half the total cost.
