I (31F) met my ex D (31m) when we were 19 and had a wild weekend together. I got pregnant a while after and D isn't the dad, but I never saw him for years so I thought it didn't matter. My son B (11) is the light of my life and I don't really care who the dad is. A few years ago, I run into D and he literally saves my life. We exchange contact info, but don't talk. A couple years after that, he comes to me right after his brother S (26M) died suddenly and we kind of hit things off from there. He was great with B, got a steady job, etc, but last year S came back, turns out he was missing. I'm incredibly grateful that S is back, and D even met some extended family. He started working road jobs like he used to, but I really didn't mind. The problem was a few weeks ago, D broke into the house drunk and shoved B. I kicked him out and didn't answer his calls since, because I thought laying hands on my son was a clear immediate breakup, but one time I actually picked up on him, and I don't know what came over me. I told him about his functional alcoholism, his emotional distance since S's return, and a bunch of other stuff. I think I went too far and shouldn't have gone in on him like that."
