The trial involved seven diesel vans compared to 18 cargo bike, 2 electric vans and one diesel truck. The findings of the trial suggest that the large scale use of cargocycles and a consolidation centre could lead to improvements in transport logistics, performance for urban delivery and bring about environmental benefits. The results revealed a full replacement of the diesel van fleet by electric Cargocycles and electric vans would lead to a reduction of about 60% of the total distance driven by all vehicles for the deliveries in London EC1-4 area. This reduction in mileage and use of electric cargocycles and vans resulted in a 90% reduction in NOx and PM10 emissions compared to the typical diesel van delivery fleet. Camden will continue to further this work and link to research involving micro-consolidation.
