Right by your side for as long as I can

Summary: When Darius and Eberwolf are assigned to find a magic glove from wild witches and things don’t go successfully.

Darius and Eberwolf where currently taking a ship to 'Island Azul' where Belos had assigned them to capture a wild witch and find a magic glove, apparently the scouts that were originally assigned to go in this mission failed so Belos decided two coven heads were more suited for this mission. They have been on the ship for 4 days now and have made multiple stops at other islands to recover other objects Belos had requested. Unfortunately, the beds on the lower deck aren’t the most comfortable and Darius had been complaining about it most mornings.

“Hey Eber, how long till we get there?” Darius asked as he sat on his bed reading his magazine. “Probably till morning” Eberwolf growled as he looked outside then at the map next to him (he had been given the map since he was "good at tracking" and mostly because Darius was too tired to try and find the island.) They both had waisted much of their energy on other witches when trying to recover the other objects and hope this last task isn’t going to be as hard as the others.

"In that case I’m going to sleep” Darius placed his magazine on the nightstand and got up to check on the abomination that was currently driving the ship, hopefully it will still be there when he wakes up and won’t melt during the night. “Can I sleep in your bed Darius?” Eberwolf asked as he jumped onto his shoulder when he made his way back from the top deck of the ship. “Why can’t you sleep in yours?” He walked over to the bed where Eberwolf jumped off his shoulder and onto the right side of the bed where the wall was. "Too uncomfortable” Eber responded then made himself comfortable in his bed. “Both beds are uncomfortable get used to it and move over.” Eberwolf didn’t respond or move, he knew his brother was only complaining for the fun of it and didn't really care. He placed the blanket on Eber and himself before closing his eyes and tried to get some sleep. Just his luck, the bed was just as uncomfortable as the night before and he kept turning trying to find a comfortable position, after about 20 minutes he finally found a "comfortable" spot which was just him hugging a pillow with his knees by his chest.

A few minutes passed and Eber still lacked sleep just like the nights before. He blamed his lack of sleep on the bed but he knew it was his thoughts mostly keeping him from getting sleep. “Hey Dar, you awake?" Eberwolf sat up and turned to look at Darius who was hugging a pillow tightly as if holding on for dear life, “No I’m asleep” Darius rolled his eyes before sitting up and turning around to look at Eber, “Is something wrong?” He shook his head, "Can't sleep my head hurts" “You want your headphones?” Another head shake. “What's on your mind?” Eber opened his mouth then closed it, “nothing my head just hurts from the mission” Darius laid back down on his side, still facing Eberwolf, and extended his arm up. Eber immediately understood what he was trying to say and quickly moved over to Darius before he could change his mind. He curled up next to Darius and let him lower his hand onto his mane and run his hand through it. He placed his head on Ebers head before quietly speaking, “you don’t have to talk but at least try to sleep okay Eber?” Eberwolf nodded and closed his eyes drifting off to sleep by the sound of Darius's heartbeat.

Darius and Eberwolf stepped out of the woods where they had been walking in for almost 3 hours, "here we are!" Eber said pointing to the cave that was in front of them, "told you I could do it!" "Says the guy that led us in a circle for 2 hours" Darius said as he walked past him and into the cave "let's just get this over with"

They walked through the cave as carefully and quietly as possible, Darius in front, "Hey Eb look at this" He made his way over to what Darius was looking at, it appeared to be fresh blood. "You think you can track the witch?" Eber sniffing the ground and led the way, "Its more than just one wild witch." After what felt like forever, they could hear voices. "Careful you're ganna break it!" She whisper yelled at him as he put on the glove, "I'm not that careless unlike you, you almost dropped it into the boiling water!" They were in the back of the cave at a high point with boiling sea water beneath them. "Shut it!" "you can't just-" She placed her hand over his mouth and looked around the room. "Did you hear that" She whispered and looked to her right in time to see abomination goo, she quickly moved out of the way and avoided the attack.

"FUCK!" Darius placed his hands on his head clearly angry at himself for missing even though they had the advantage. "Go around from behind while I get their attention" Eber signed then made his way around the rocks getting into position. After a minute he launched himself onto the guy who was still wearing the glove.

"KEV MOVE!" She tried to help him but then was stopped by abomination goo covering her feet slowly making its way up her body. While she was stuck in goo Kevin was able to get Eberwolf off and use construction magic to separate him and Eber, Darius used his goo to teleport her farther from his reach, The next 35 minute consisted of several uses of magic like illusions, construction, plant, abomination, and beasts. At this point all 4 of them were tired and wanted all this to end.

Darius successfully got the glove and was able to get Kevin on the ground with abomination goo and kept his foot on his back to keep him down. "Let him go or I throw your companion into the boiling water!" Darius quickly turned his head and saw Eber hovering by the edge were Janet (The other wild witch) was keeping him in place with her magic. "How do I know it's not an illusion?" He really wished it was an illusion, his heart felt like it was going to come out his chest, he remembered how in college Eber once got splashed with boiling water as a "prank" from a group of young scouts leaving him with a few scars. He still remembered how much pain Eberwolf was in for the next few months.

"You wanna test it?!" She laughed and moved Eber closer to the edge and Darius could have sworn he felt his heart stop for a moment, "You throw him and I throw your companion!" They stood staring at one another for what felt like forever, Eber could see it in Darius's eyes that his magic was starting to fail him. Kevin seemed to notice and took the opportunity to get out and take the glove causing Darius to fall on his knee and Janet took the opportunity to drop Eberwolf and run. "NO!!!"

Eber closed his eyes waiting for the water to hit his body and kill him, the only thing on his mind was Darius and the regret of not being able to talk to him one last time.

Darius felt the world stop around him as he saw his brother fall to his death, without a second thought he ran to the edge and jumped. He wasn't going to leave his brother no matter what, that was a promise they made to each other when they first met.

Eberwolf opened his eyes and saw Darius, 'wait... DARIUS!!!' in a second he felt Darius hug him and he immediately hugged him back of course he wondered what the heck was wrong with him to jump right after him, but it didn't matter right now. Nothing did after all, they had each other and that's all they needed.

"I promise to stay right by your side " Darius said looking in Ebers eyes, "for as long as I can" Eber finished and they closed their eyes waiting to reach the water, their destination

Project Night

(Summary: The hexsquad has to work on a school project and go to Darius's house were they spend the night working and having a blast

Notes: they use snails as currency and most of the story is dialog)

*knock knock knock*

D: Come in

Hunter opened the door and stepped into Darius's room where he was calmly reading a book on his bed.

D: what’s up kiddo?

H: Oh-um, so basically me and my friends are doing this school project together and um I was wondering if you know, we could, if they could come over so we could work on it if that’s alright with you?

D: When do you want them to come over?

H: Oh um tomorrow morning if that’s alright

Darius put his hand on his chin contemplating whether it was a good idea.

D: How about they come tomorrow at noon and they can stay the night if they want since I have to take Eber to get his shot in the morning

H: YES, PERFECT THANKS DAD!

Hunter ran out the room closing the door behind him without looking back while Darius sat there dumbfounded

D: 'He called me dad-'

D: 'HE CALLED ME DAD!!!! I'M A DAD!!!!I'M GANNA RUB THIS IN EBERS FACE LATER!'

*The next day at 10 am*

D: Me and Eber will be home soon text me when your friends get here.

E: Let me goooo!!!

Eber moved around trying to get out before giving up and melting into Darius's arms.

D: Oh don't be so dramatic Eber it's just one shot

E: I don't need a shot, I'm perfectly healthy

D: Anyways, don't burn the house down little prince

H: I'm not that irresponsible Darius

Darius rolled his eyes before teleporting him and Eberwolf to the healers for his yearly shoot.

*** 2 hrs later ***

*knock knock knock*

Hunter ran to the door as fast as he could, almost falling down the stairs, when he made it down he quickly opened the door to see all his friends standing on the other side with their palisman in hand.

H: Come in make yourselves at home

L: Wow Hermano your house is awesome

G: It's so clean and organized

H: Yea Darius likes to keep stuff like that

*** 20 mins later ***

D: Hunter we're h-

He paused at the sudden group of teens in his living room making a mess on the floor, from what he can see the couch and table are covered with several stacks of paper and textbooks

D: Hello children

H: Oh, hey Darius sorry about the mess we'll clean up after I promise

D: You guys better, anyways if you need us we'll be in the basement

And with that he walked past the kids being careful of where he stepped while carrying Eber in his arms. He had fallen asleep during the walk back home since they had to make a stop at the fabric shop because Darius needed more supplies for one of his projects.

He closed the door behind him then walked down to the basement placing Eber on the ground while he got started on his sewing project. (Eber enjoys sleeping on the floor)

About 40 minutes past before Eber woke up

D: Good morning, Eber

E: What time is it?"

D: 1 pm why?

E: I'm hungry

Eber walked over to the table that contained a drawer filled with chips and other snacks then grabbed a hand full before hopping onto the sofa

D: You better not get the sofa dirty like last time

E: Don't care

20 minutes later Eber was asleep again on the sofa with a small blanket barely covering his body. He was slightly shivering but it managed to catch Darius's attention. He made his way over and gently picked Eber up before sitting down and placing him back down this time on his lap with the blanket on top of him. He gently ran his hand through Ebers hair and started scrolling on his scroll.

By the time he looked up from his scroll it was 2:35pm and he forgot to make lunch.

D: Eber wake up I'm ganna order take-out what do you want?

E: fairy pie!

D: Okay Ima ask the kids what they want

E: Kids?

D: Yea Hunters friends came over to work on a project, I told them they could stay the night too.

*15 mins later*

D: Foods here

L: Yay I'm starving

A: Me too

Darius placed the bag of take-out on the table while Eber got the plates. The living room was no longer a mess, all the paper and books were stacked neatly on the floor next to their bags.

W: Thanks for the food, Darius

A: Yea thank you sir

E: Gimme pie!!!

G: Here you go my dude

H: Since we got most of our project done and it’s not due until Friday how about we play bone-nopoly?

A: YEA!!!

L: Don’t you mean monopoly?

W: nope

H: You wanna play Darius?

D: Sure

H: How about you Eber

E: Okay!

D: Don't talk with your mouth full Eber

E: No

*After eating*

G: I wanna be the microphone!

L: I wanna be the eyebat!

H: No, it's my board game I get to be the eyebat!

D: STOP! How about I just make little abominations of all of us so you don’t have to fight over the tokens?

W: Perfect!

A: I’ll help make some too

While the two were making tiny abominations Eber was evenly distributing the money.

H: Each player is given 1,500 snails divided as follows: 2 each of 500 snails, 100 snails and 50 snails, then 6 20 snails, 5 each of 10 snails, 5 snails and 1 snail

(Don’t know if these are the official rules but it’s close enough)

E: Does it matter which I use? You end up with 1,500 snails regardless.

H: Of course it matters, the rules are there for a reason

E: Whatever I still think it’s the same thing

D: Finished, you guys done with the money?

E: Not even close

H: He’s just being careless

E: CARELESS!!!

G: How about we just start the game

W: Agreed

later in the game

G: Thats another 100 snails for me

A: WHY DO YOU HAVE SO MUCH PROPERTY?!

G: I'm just that good✨

W: hurry up so I can get my turn

E: Hey Darius can you make my abomination sit on your abomination's shoulder since we're on the same space???

D: No

E: What whyyy?????!!!

D: Too much work

E: Thats a lie

D: Whatever

H: Hey Luz

L: What?

H: If I win you got to give me 100 snails

L: Fine, but WHEN I win you have to give me 100 snails

H: Deal

L: Deal

W: Luz you have to go to the conformatorium

L: WHAT! AGAIN!

H: Looks like you're ganna owe me 100 snails

* After Game*

L: Here you go Hunter

H: Thank you very kindly

G: Hey Hunter how many blankets do you guys have?

H: like 8 in total-

D: 7, the quilt is off limits even to Hunter

H: right 7, why?

G: well, I was wondering if we could make a pillow fort, with that amount we could make a giant one!

H: Is that okay Darius?

D: sure, but what's a pillow fort?

*30 mins later after the fort was made*

A: Hey Hunter, why do you guys have so many blankets

H: Because Eber loves to sleep with like 5 blankets

E: THATS A LIE! I sleep with 3 :)

H: Anyways, me and Darius each sleep with one and the other 2 are extras

W: That makes sense

Grrrr

L: Sorry, that's my stomach

D: Me and Eber will get started with dinner you kids can put on a movie

G: YAY MOVIE!

D: But first clean up

H: Okay

*After Dinner on the couch*

A: Which movie should we watch?

L: Die Bard 2! Raine talks about it all the time when they come over to the owl house

W: That sounds great

H: We should probably watch Die Bard 1 first

G: Amity could you move a bit?

A: Could you move a bit, Luz?

L: could you move a bit, Hunter?

H: could you move a bit, Willow?

W: could you move a bit, Eber?

E: Darius move

D: I can't you're on my lap

L: I'll sit on the floor there are plenty of pillows

A: me too

D: me and Eber can sit on the floor he prefers the floor anyway

E: YEA!

*In the middle of Die Bard 2*

E: I'm ganna make more popcorn

D: Did you eat all the popcorn again?

E: Yep

D: How do you even do that?

H: I'll make more popcorn Eber

E: Thanks!

H: Here you go

D: Thanks Hunter

H: Could I um- sit with you guys

D: Sure, but why?

H: Willow and Gus are sleeping and I don't want to wake them up

D: make yourself comfortable

They continued to watch the movie as normal until Darius looked around and noticed everyone was asleep, Hunter was asleep on his shoulder and Eber was on his lap. Luz and Amity had fallen asleep above several pillows while Willow and Gus were covered in multiple blankets with all their palisman curled up next to them. He created a little abomination to turn off the tv while he carefully placed a blanket around the three of them before getting rid of the abomination and falling asleep content with how the day had gone.

why write a story if no one's going to read it?

Sometimes you don't want to share a story with others. Sometimes you do want to share it, but no one clicks on the title. So why bother writing it down if the only person you can guarantee will read it is you?

You need to get it out of your head. It just keeps replaying in your imagination on a loop and the only way to get it unstuck is to pin it down on paper.

You need to figure out what the story is. You have a lot of disjointed scenes or lines that you know are connected but you can't quite figure out how.

There's something in the story that's important to you, and you don't want to lose that thing by forgetting it. Future you might find that thing important too.

You want to be able to go back to the story again and again. Maybe to make adjustments over time. Maybe just to revisit a story that gives you the emotional release you need in that moment.

You want to be able to use text-to-speech to read the story aloud to you. Maybe it's a bedtime story. Maybe it's keeping you company while you do errands and chores.

You want to find out whether you can write a story (because not everyone can).

You want to be able to have almost the same story, but a little bit different, and you want to have it 15 times with slight variations. Then you can go through your own personal menu picking exactly the combination of beats that will satisfy you most on this reading.

You enjoy the process of finding just the right words or phrases or scenes to paint the pictures you want to shape the scene.

You want to find the exact rhythm and syllables and structure to make a sentence really sing.

You don't really have any particular reason, but you know you want to write that story down.

Boiling Rain

(Summary: Eberwolf was out on a work mission and Darius is worried when Eber suddenly comes home while it's raining out.

Reminder: Boiling rain not regular rain

Note: Starts from Darius' perspective then switches to Ebers. Also because of regents I lost track of time, and this is going to be short and all over the place. )

It seemed like a normal Friday night, Darius was by the doorway making sure -his now adopted son- was getting ready for bed. It was raining boiling rain outside, luckily he didn't need to shelter his house like Eda since his house wasn't living unlike a certain owl house.

Darius made his way to Hunter placing the blanket over Hunter when he noticed Hunter was silent and not as energetic like most days.

D: "Is something on your mind little prince?"

H: "I'm just worried about Eberwolf"

Darius gave Hunter a kiss on the forehead before saying,

D: "I know but hopefully he's safe and took shelter from the rain."

Eberwolf had been out on a work mission since the evening and hadn't returned, Darius tried to call him but Eber's crow was dead and he left his scroll at home. By 8pm it started to rain and he began to worry about his friend's whereabouts.

He managed to get Hunter to fall asleep in the span of a few minutes and made his way to his room. He had been up since 5am and was exhausted from running around all day but when he laid in bed he couldn't sleep, his bed felt uncomfortable and he kept tossing and turning trying to get some shut eye. His mind thought about many things but what stuck out was the thoughts about Eber. He tried not to think about it because he knew he couldn’t do anything to make sure he was safe and could just hope he found shelter. He looked around his room and started to feel cramped even though his room was fairly large. After about 20 minutes of trying to sleep he decided to get up and go to the kitchen to get something to drink hoping that would help him sleep.

While Darius was drinking his cup of water in the kitchen he noticed the couch and all the fluffy pillows and blankets on it. He looked out the window at the rain letting his mind wander again until he noticed he had finished his cup and didn't feel anymore sleepy than before. He walked back to his room but instead of going to bed he grabbed his pillow and made his way back to the living room. He moved the couch cushions to make more room and placed his blanket on top of him with a few throw pillows surrounding him. He no longer felt cramped but still couldn't manage to sleep.

He decided to grab the book on the coffee table and start reading hoping that would help. He lied on his back hearing the sound of boiling rain coming from outside. About 10 minutes passed when he noticed he wasn’t reading he was simply gazing upon the words in front of him. He was thinking about Hunters next flyer derby match, and what he would make for breakfast when his mind came back to thought of Eberwolf. His shoulders stiffened at the thought of his friend out in the rain.

He wasn’t far in his thoughts when he heard noise coming from the front door. This happened often when it rained, a critter would try to come in and Eber would help it out. Darius looked at the clock on the wall, it read '10pm'. He had been trying to sleep for the past 30 minutes with no success. He placed the book down on the table and turned to his side looking away from the door and window.

Soon after Darius turned around the door opened, Darius quickly sat up to see what animal had made its way into his house. He squinted trying to get a better look at the creature when it hit him.

It was Eber.

D: "Eber?!"

Eberwolf jumped at the sudden sound, he hadn't expected anyone to be awake let alone Darius since he always wanted his beauty sleep. Darius ran to Eber almost falling on the pillows, he kneeled down and immediately wrapped his arms around Eber before pulling back soon after.

D: "What are you doing here? How did you get home? Are you hurt?"

He didn't get a chance to respond when Daruis wrapped his arms around him again. He hugged him back carefully, trying not to move his arms too much. Darius pulled back once again with a concerned and confused look on his face.

D: "Are you okay? Are you hurt?"

He looked down at the floor before slowly taking his jacket off, reveling several 1st and 2nd degree burns on his arms. Darius's eyes went wide in horror. After a moment of silence Darius opened his arm and Eber immediately moved closer and hugged him. He buried his head in his friend's chest hiding from the world as Darius sheltered him, all he could hear was Darius's steady heartbeat.

Without saying anything Darius picked Eber up and walked to his room. Eber didn't move, he felt safe and comfortable in his arms. They made it to Darius's room and he gently placed him on his bed, Darius then walked to his bathroom and quickly came back with a first aid kit in his hand. He sat on the bed looking down at Darius as he rummaged through the first aid kit before pulling something out that he couldn't make out since it was too dark.

D: "This is going to sting a little."

He winced at the sudden cold liquid placed on his arm. Darius was gentle when placing the potion on Ebers hand but it still burned even though it was cold. He looked out the window watching the rain and the moon in the sky. Darius worked in silence, he didn't dare to say anything, he was too scared of how Darius would react. When Darius finishes his work, he placed everything back into the first aid kit.

D: "Why did you do that?"

E: "Do what?"

D: "You know what I'm talking about, why did you come home in the rain? Why didn't you take shelter?"

Darius had a worried expression and he started to feel guilty especially since it was late and he knew his brother never enjoyed staying up later than needed.

E: "Its just- after the Day Of Unity I was scared of being away from you guys and when it began to rain, I just wanted to come home where it's safe. I missed you guys, I'm sorry to make you worry".

He avoided making eye contact until Darius ruffled his hair causing him to look up.

D: "I missed you too mutt"

He gave him a small smile before jumping onto the man's shoulder

E: "let's go to bed, I'm tired from walking"

They walked back down to the living room and made their way to the couch where Eber jumped off his shoulder and onto the lavender sofa where he curled up into a ball. Darius made his way soon after placing the blanket on top of them. Darius was now able to sleep in peace knowing his brother was safe at home with him.

Eberwolf has sitting on the couch watching the crystal ball when he noticed the time, it was 8:32 p.m. he started to wonder what was taking Darius and Hunter so long upstairs. Darius was invited to a party with other coworkers that were helping rebuilt the boiling isles and Hunter was invited since the other coworkers wanted all their kids to get along since they would be spending several days together due to projects. Hunter was so ecstatic to hear Darius considered him a son he cried when he was told the news. Eberwolf was also invited but declined since he didn't want to dress in formal attire.

Darius was never fond of the idea of going to parties but since it was an important matter he didn't really have much choice. He also didn't like being late to events so Eberwolf was starting to wonder what was takings so long. Eberwolf turned off the crystal ball and made his way upstairs.

When he made it upstairs, he noticed Hunter wasn't in his room so he continued to walk down the hall to Darius's room which was slightly open. He peeked through the door to see Hunter sitting on the side of the bed next to Darius with his head on his shoulder while Darius had his arm wrapped around Hunters shoulder. Darius looked at Eberwolf with a sad expression on his face and motioned for him to come in, He carefully made his way to the bed trying not to startle Hunter.

*** (20 mins ago)***

Darius was in his room when he heard a knock on his bedroom door.

"Come in"

Hunter walked in and made his way to Darius

"What's up kiddo?"

"Could you help me with my tie, I can't get it right"

Hunter looked at the floor, trying not to make eye contact with Darius but failed when he looked up for a second then back at the floor.

"Sure, take a seat"

Hunter did as he was told and sat on the bed. After a minute Darius made his way to Hunter and fixed his tie.

"There, all done."

"Thanks…"

Hunter continued to look at the floor and started to fidget with his fingers. Darius knew Hunter wanted to tell him something but didn't know if he should ask. Then again if he didn't ask the subject would probably come up later.

"Is there something wrong little prince?"

Hunter stayed quiet thinking about the answer he should give.

"You know you can tell me when somethings bothering you"

"I- it's just…"

"What if something happens when were at the party…"

"What do you mean?"

Darius asked in a soft tone and sat on the bed next to Hunter.

"I mean, the last time we went to a party I had a panic attack and- and what if that happens again"

"Oh little prince"

Darius lifted Hunters head carefully and wiped away his tears, Hunter hadn't even noticed he was crying.

"hey look at me, even if that happens I'll be there to help you so you don't have to worry"

Darius pulled Hunter into a hug causing him to cry harder. After a few minutes Darius pulled away and wiped Hunters tears away again.

"Why don't we come up with a system"

"What do you mean?"

"I mean like signs you give me so I know somethings wrong or if you want to come home"

"Okay but what signs?"

Darius paused wondering what would be best, something not too obvious but obvious enough to tell something was wrong

"How about you tug on my shirt 2 times is you feel sick or unwell physically and tap my shoulder 3 times if you feel unsafe or worried"

Hunters eyes lit up at the idea

"Really?!"

"Yea, only if that's okay with you"

Hunter leaned his head on the man's shoulder.

"Thanks Darius"

"No problem but if you don't mind me asking why the sudden worry, you haven't had a panic attack in almost a month?"

"It's just I-"

Hunter couldn’t seem to get the words out of his mouth. Darius noticed and wrapped his arm around the kids' shoulder and placed his head on Hunters head. He noticed Eberwolf standing by the door and motioned him to come in. He made his way to the bed and sat next to Hunter being as quiet as possible.

"Last week I was out with friends and then- then I saw something that reminded me of him and I stared to have a panic attack and I didn't know how to bring it up so I didn't "

Darius ran his hands through Hunters hair while Eber snuggled up with Hunter

"You know you can tell me and Eber anything at any time, okay?"

"Okay, thanks Darius"

***(15 minutes later)***

"Don't trash the place Eber we'll be back in a few hours"

"Whatever old man"

Darius closed the door ignoring the comment his friend made and walked with Hunter making their way to the party.

Sick prince

(Summary: Hunter wakes up sick but insists he's fine causing him to faint leaving Darius and Eberwolf to take of him.

It was quiet in the Deamonne house when Hunter woke up, Darius and Eberwolf were still sleeping. He hadn't gotten much sleep that night, he had a horrible headache that wouldn't go away and every bone in his body hurt too much to move. He tried to go back to sleep but found it difficult with his runny nose. All he could do was deal with it and hope it was gone in the morning. After another half hour of not being able to sleep he managed to get up and go to the bathroom, by the time he got back to bed his runny nose was mostly gone and he could now finally get some sleep.

Later that morning, Eberwolf was in the living room laying on the couch on his scroll, while Darius was sitting at the kitchen table. It was 8am and Darius noticed Hunter hadn't woken up yet which wasn't unusual for him since Darius had often told him to get more rest after practice.

9am rolled around and hunter still wasn't awake. Darius was starting to wonder if hunter was still sleeping or if he just didn't want to come down which also wasn't unusual for him since on the weekends he would stay in his room perfecting his stitches. Darius turned to looked at Eberwolf,

"Can you go check on Hunter, I'm going to start breakfast."

Eberwolf growled something under his breath that Darius couldn't understand then made his way upstairs.

He knocked on Hunters door only to get no response back, he knocked again only to again, get no response. He slightly opened the door to see Hunter still in bed with the blanket covering his whole body including his head. He walked into the room and made his way over to Hunters bed trying to avoid the mess on the floor. He gently moved Hunters shoulder to try and wake him up. Hunter groaned in pain and told Eberwolf to go away. Eberwolf could barely make out the words but when he did, he hesitantly turned around and left to go downstairs.

"Is he up?"

Eberwolf shook his head and pointed upstairs.

"He told me to go away, and he sounded like he was in pain or something"

Darius looked at him confused then at the staircase.

"Take care of the food, I'll go check on him."

***

When Darius got to the room the door was halfway open because of Eberwolf. He still bothered to knock since he knew Hunter cared a lot about his room since it had become his safe place. He got no response from Hunter, so he decided to come in after 3 mins of waiting outside. He walked toward Hunters bed and moved his shoulder just like Eberwolf had done before.

"Come on Hunter wake up breakfast is almost ready."

Hunter didn't respond even though he was awake. Darius moved his shoulder again.

"I'll be down in a minute just leave me alone."

He accidentally said it a bit louder than he expected which Darius took notice of since Hunter didn't usually raise his voice at him or in general. He also noticed how raspy and weak hunters voice sounded. He chose to respect his decisions and exited the bedroom.

5 mins later hunter wabbled his way down the stairs somehow making it to the round kitchen table without falling over. He sat down with his head in his hand, gazing at the plate of food in front of him with Eberwolf to his left and Darius to his right. Darius looked at him intensely as Hunter started to pick and play with his food while Eberwolf was somehow almost halfway done.

"Good morning little prince"

"Good morning"

He said it without moving his gaze from the plate of food in front of him.

"Are you okay? You looked like you were having trouble walking down the stairs."

Darius continued to look at hunter while he placed a spoon full of food in his mouth. Hunter looked up at Darius then back at his plate of food.

"I'm just tired from practice yesterday that's all."

"Your voice sounds sore, do you want me to make you a tea?"

"No, I'm okay"

Eberwolf finished his plate and made his way to the sink while Darius and Hunter stayed eating at the table.

"I'm not very hungry, I'm going to my room."

Hunter had only eaten slightly more than half his food and didn't wait for a response to get up. Hunter wabbled his way over to the sink then the staircase trying his best not to fall over.

(Around an hour or two later)

Hunter was in his room sitting on the side of his bed practicing his stitches when he heard a knock on his door.

"Come in"

Darius walked in and sat next to hunter, he looked up at him with confusion.

"Am I in trouble???"

"No, I just wanted to check in with you."

"Oh...okay"

"How are you feeling?"

"good... why?"

"You looked really pail this morning and I just wanted to make sure you were okay."

"Oh, well I'm fine, you don't have to worry."

"You still look pretty pail, are you sure you're okay?"

"Yea I'm sure..."

Hunter looked back down at the needle in his hand trying not to make eye contact with Darius.

"Can I touch your forehead?"

Hunter wanted to say no but instead nodded slowly hoping his forehead wasn't too hot for him to notice his fever.

"geez kid you're burning hot!"

Hunter didn't look at Darius trying to ignore what he had just said.

"Why didn't you tell me you had a fever?!"

"I'm fine it's just a cold"

"You're not, you're seriously sick."

Darius had a worry expression on his face and Hunter was starting to feel guilty for making him worry about him.

"I'm sorry to make you worry about me but I can handle it, I've been worse when I was the golden guard and I still went out on missions"

"Yes, but you're not the golden guard anymore and it's not healthy."

"It's fine, I'll be better by tomorrow"

"And what if you get worse?"

"Then I'll just deal with it like I used t-"

Darius pulled Hunter into a hug causing him to freeze but then calmed down knowing he was safe and hugged Darius back with tears streaming down his face. After a while Darius pulled back and placed his hands on Hunters cheeks wiping away his tears since he still had the needle and thread in his hands.

"Sorry I should have asked before I hugged you"

"it's okay, I know I'm safe here"

Darius couldn't help but smile since even after months of Hunter living with him and Eberwolf he rarely left his guard down. Hunter ended up falling asleep on his shoulder which he didn't mind since he was just happy Hunter was getting rest.

After an hour Darius moved hunter to a pillow since he and Eber had to go out to do their weekly grocery shopping and to buy Hunter medicine.

(At the market)

"Do you think Hunter would prefer vanilla or chocolate?"

"Idk"

"I'll just buy both"

"You should buy some tea we don't have much left at home and hunters probably going to need it."

"that's true"

Darius grabbed the tea from the shelf and placed it in the cart next to the vanilla and chocolate flavored yogurt.

"Can we get apple blood?"

"Uh sure and while you're at it get some griffin eggs, I'm going to call hunter to see if he's okay"

"He's not answering, he's probably still asleep"

"The more rest he gets the better but we should probably hurry up"

"You're right."

Hunter had woken up from his nap about 25 mins ago to the crow tapping on his window which left a message from Darius. He started to practice his sewing but was stopped half way by a jolt of pain in his head. He tried to get up but was immediately stopped by another jolt of pain that went through his entire body. He placed his work on the desk and grabbed the pillow next to him curling up into a ball. He heard the front door open and knew Darius and Eberwolf had arrived home from the market.

"Hunter we're home"

Hunter heard Darius even though his door was closed but didn't have the energy to response even though he wanted to. He ended up falling asleep again when Darius later came in to check up on him.

(At 2pm)

Eberwolf and Darius were sitting on the couch, Eber was curled up on his best friends' lap while Darius brushed his hair. All of a sudden, they started to hear loud noises come from hunters' room. They looked at each other then back at the top of the stair case where hunters room was located, Eberwolf got off Darius' lap and moved to the empty side of the couch. They made their way out of the living room and up the stairs to Hunters room.

"Hunter you in there?"

no response.

"May we come in?"

no response.

"We're coming in."

He slightly opened the door and waited to see if hunter responded (which he didn't) then opened the door completely. He looked around the teenage boys' room to see it was messier than it was just a few hours ago when he last came in. There were pillows and blankets on the floor and unfinished sewing projects on his desk that weren't there before. He was confused to not find Hunter in his room then he noticed Eberwolf making his way to hunters' bathroom door which was slightly open. When they walked in, they were shocked to find hunter laying on the bathroom floor next to the toilet bleeding from the side of his head.

"SHIT! Eber get me some bandages!"

Eberwolf ran out of the room as fast as possible while Darius stayed with Hunter. He carefully picked up Hunter holding him tight in his arms as he carried him to the bed. Eberwolf returned soon after with their first-aid kit handing it to Darius, he carefully cleaned the blood and disinfected the wound then wrapped the bandages around hunters head to stop the bleeding.

"He's ganna get himself killed one day..."

Eber sat next to Hunter with a sad and worried face as he grabbed hunters' hand to check his pulse while Darius tried to wake up Hunter with no success.

"He's not ganna wake up his heartbeat is too low"

"Is that bad?! Is he going to die?!"

Eberwolf shook his head quickly realizing that he probably should've said that in a different way.

"He's just going to be out for a while"

"How long?!"

"Probably a minimum of an hour to three hours at max"

*sigh*"Thank Titan"

Eberwolf placed his chin on Hunter's chest and closed his eyes while quietly whimpering, Darius noticed and placed his hand on Eberwolfs head causing him to stop whimpering and calm down. They ended up falling asleep on Hunters' bed since neither of them wanted to risk leaving Hunter alone.

(Two hours later)

Hunter woke up not knowing what had happened a few hours ago, he tried to get up but was stopped by a jolt of pain more painful than the ones in the morning. He tried to grab his head but was stopped by someone's hand. He looked up to see Darius sitting next to him and Eberwolf sleeping on his chest.

"It'll hurt more if you touch it"

"What happened?"

"I'm not entirely sure but me and Eber found you on the bathroom floor bleeding"

Hunter looked back at Eber and placed his hand on Eberwolfs head causing him to wake up and look at hunter, he smiled then closed his eyes again happy to know hunter was finally awake. Hunter then placed his head on Darius' shoulder,

"Thanks for taking care of me"

"No problem little prince."
