I definitely interpret this as him previously using the world building and maintenance of the lore as escapism, but now it’s an obligation to:

1. Keep it all straight so as not to get “well-actually”d by overzealous fans about his own story

or

2. Tour, album, tour, album, tour, repeat. We’ve seen from tour diaries that he’s very hands on to the point of possible control-freak status with on stage logistics
