The LGBTQ community has seen controversy regarding acceptance of different groups (bisexual and transgender individuals have sometimes been marginalized by the larger community), but the term LGBT has been a positive symbol of inclusion and reflects the embrace of different identities and that we’re stronger together and need each other. While there are differences, we all face many of the same challenges from broader society.

In the 1960′s, in wider society the meaning of the word gay transitioned from ‘happy’ or ‘carefree’ to predominantly mean ‘homosexual’ and was an umbrella term that meant anyone who wasn’t cisgender or heterosexual. The community embraced the word ‘gay’ as a mark of pride.

The modern fight for queer rights is considered to have begun with The Stonewall Riots in 1969 and was called the Gay Liberation Movement and the Gay Rights Movement.

The acronym GLB surfaced around this time to also include Lesbian and Bisexual people who felt “gay” wasn’t inclusive of their identities. 

Early in the gay rights movement, gay men were largely the ones running the show and there was a focus on men’s issues. Lesbians were unhappy that gay men dominated the leadership and ignored their needs and the feminist fight. As a result, lesbians tended to focus their attention on the Women’s Rights Movement which was happening at the same time. This dominance by gay men was seen as yet one more example of patriarchy and sexism. 

In the 1970′s, sexism and homophobia existed in more virulent forms and those biases against lesbians also made it hard for them to find their voices within women’s liberation movements. Betty Friedman, the founder of the National Organization for Women (NOW), commented that lesbians were a “lavender menace” that threatened the political efficacy of the organization and of feminism and many women felt including lesbians was a detriment.

In the 80s and 90s, a huge portion of gay men were suffering from AIDS while the lesbian community was largely unaffected. Lesbians helped gay men with medical care and were a massive part of the activism surrounding the gay community and AIDS. This willingness to support gay men in their time of need sparked a closer, more supportive relationship between both groups, and the gay community became more receptive to feminist ideals and goals. 

Approaching the 1990′s it was clear that GLB referred to sexual identity and wasn’t inclusive of gender identity and T should be added, especially since trans activist have long been at the forefront of the community’s fight for rights and acceptance, from Stonewall onward. Some argued that T should not be added, but many gay, lesbian and bisexual people pointed out that they also transgress established gender norms and therefore the GLB acronym should include gender identities and they pushed to include T in the acronym. 

GLBT became LGBT as a way to honor the tremendous work the lesbian community did during the AIDS crisis. 

Towards the end of the 1990s and into the 2000s, movements took place to add additional letters to the acronym to recognize Intersex, Asexual, Aromantic, Agender, and others. As the acronym grew to LGBTIQ, LGBTQIA, LGBTQIAA, many complained this was becoming unwieldy and started using a ‘+’ to show LGBT aren’t the only identities in the community and this became more common, whether as LGBT+ or LGBTQ+. 

In the 2010′s, the process of reclaiming the word “queer” that began in the 1980′s was largely accomplished. In the 2020′s the LGBTQ+ acronym is used less often as Queer is becoming the more common term to represent the community.

Soap is terrified that his love for Ghost is just a hyperfixation that he latched onto at the first sign of enthrallment. That it's not really there, just something his brain decided that would keep him happy for the time being. He's terrified for the day that'll come when he wakes up next to his Lieutenant, and feels.... nothing. Friendship, sure. Trauma bonded, definitely. But his brain decided to move on when his heart couldn't. That scares him more than most else.

Ghost?

Ghost has a hard time deciphering his feelings. If he's feeling platonic. Romantic. Hell, even just a touchy mood. What if he misreads a situation? What then?

We know Ghost is supposed to be portrayed as cold and emotionless in the new games. Killer, cold blooded machine. That was Ghost.

Simon's only scared that his lack of physical emotion too harshly masks what his internal emotion feels like. Like one day, Johnny will just snap, end it, because he couldn't show enough. Couldn't show that he felt enough. Felt anything. It was difficult. He had to really try.

And he did. Soap saw that much, at least.

Their fears are absolutely reasonable, as we all know they have foundation upon(Me, self projecting), yet they both work extremely hard to keep it... good. Happy. Well— happy enough, of course. You can only feel so much in their line of work, right?

Ones that don't rip my heart out this time

Ghost seriously considered getting Soap an engagement sword.(look em up they're really cool)

Roach lost a bet to Gaz, and had to wear a dress to the SoapGhost wedding. He killed it.

They don't have any dogs, (Soap's terrified of them), but they have a few cats, a bird that Ghost found and had insisted on keeping, some fish, and a singular moss ball that Soap keeps in a jar on Ghost's desk. It's name is Sherman.

Soap is shorter than Ghost, by a significant amount, so Ghost loves to hold things over his head so he'd have to stand on his tiptoes to get it. It was cute. You didn't hear that from Ghost.

Soap did goat yoga once, and dragged Ghost along with him.

Ghost will now not come near any goat in a 20 foot radius.

Johnny learned how to brew tea specifically for Ghost.

Ghost isn't allowed in the kitchen, he blew up their last coffee maker.

Ghost also is not allowed in the farmers market. He brings home too many plants.

The issue is, Soap killed a cactus. A cactus.

Ghost sent their plant children away on holiday to mourn. Price was not happy.

Octavio was the one who asked TaeJoon out, unsurprisingly. He wanted to do something super big and flashy to ask Tae out, but after some consideration (and asking Ajay what she thought) he thought it best to do something quiet. He brought TaeJoon to an arcade and asked him out with some sort of cheesy video game pick up line.

They teach each other phrases and words in their native languages! Octavio loves to teach TaeJoon pet names and romantic phrases so he knows what they mean when Octavio says them. He loves watching TaeJoon's stoic appearance crumble into a flustered mess.

TaeJoon has taken to carrying around certain things for Octavio after one two many incidents of having to call Ajay for help. He usually has some snacks, Octavio's ADHD medication, testosterone, spare goggles and masks, bandaids and other medical supplies, and stim toys. He always makes sure Octavio has taken his medication when they're together, and texts him when they're apart, but he knows Octavio has a tendency to space out and forget.

Octavio loves sitting in TaeJoons lap!! He feels self conscious about his prosthetic legs and doesn't like to initiate any lap time. Thankfully, TaeJoon is good at reading Octavio, and constantly pulls him into his lap whenever he can. Working on his computer? Octavio's in his lap. Watching tv? Octavio's in his lap. Octavio is gaming? He's in TaeJoon's lap. TaeJoon loves wrapping his arms around Octavio's waist and resting his head against his shoulder.

Neck kisses!! So many neck kisses. Octavio understands that TaeJoon doesn't like PDA (Hand holding is the most he's comfortable with) and Octavio does his best to keep it to a minimum in public. When they're in private, he continously showers TaeJoon in kisses and all sorts of affection to make up for lost time. His favourite places to kiss TaeJoon are his jaw, his temple, where his skin meets his metallic skin, his shoulders and surprisingly enough, his hands!

Since TaeJoon doesn't like PDA, dated aren't very common. When the two go on dates, it's mostly movie theaters, home cooked dinners, stargazing or cloud watching, or even the occasional dinner date at a fancy (secluded) restaurant! TaeJoon does most of the cooking, as the last time Octavio was in the kitchen, he almost burned his apartment down.

TaeJoon can't help but constantly want to be around Octavio, holding his hand or cuddling with him while watching a movie. After so long on the run, he can't help but crave physical affection. As much as he wants to shower Octavio with affection in public, he knows its safer to keep it on the down low. As soon as they get home, TaeJoon is picking Octavio up in his arms, hugging him tightly as he carries Octavio to their room or the couch.

sokka isn’t very open about it when he’s having a bad day but zuko can always tell by the way his boyfriend starts acting quiet and burying himself in his work. at first, sokka doesn’t realize this, but eventually he catches onto the pattern of zuko sitting on his lap and hugging him and kissing his cheeks and his neck and playing with his hair while he’s working at his desk. zuko only ever stops when sokka finally agrees to take a break and go shopping with him or sit by the pond or just climb into bed and take a nap in each other’s arms.
