Wednesday Wait Loss 377
Welcome to Wednesday Wait Loss! WWL is a place where you can share photos of quilts you’re working on and get encouragement to finish them from our Wednesday Wait Loss group!
First let me tell you what I've been up to
On Thursday, I gave a presentation to a quilt guild in Kentucky. What a lovely group of quilters! I had such fun.
Over the weekend I prepared for my workshop on fusible machine applique. I presented the first day’s tutorial yesterday. My Easy Peasy Applique workshop continues through Thursday.
The block we’re appliqueing is beach themed so I went all out and decorated for the workshop to make it more fun. Don’t you just love that laid back beach loving gnome?
On Saturday I hosted my two hundred and fourteenth Saturday Sew-in. Come share what you’re working on while getting to know quilters from around the world at this weekly online sewing retreat. It’s an online quilt guild!
Join us this Saturday for Saturday Sew-in #215 - from 8 AM to 6 PM EST. Come sew with us and make some new quilty friends!
Did you hear? The My Quilty Neighborhood membership has opened it’s doors for a short while. I love teaching as you probably figured out, and teaching is one of the things I do within my quilting membership. Besides a library of tutorials and patterns, you'll also find lots of encouragement and help to finish your projects in the membership, along with quarterly challenges and prizes, monthly online sewing retreats filled with camaraderie and fun, scrapbusting ideas, mini quilt swaps, and general merriment.
To sweeten the deal should you decide to join the membership now, I've added some bonuses for acting fast 🎁
A video tutorial that shows you how to turn a quilt block into a cute tote bag
My Beach block pattern, which you can use to create a mini quilt, pillow or tote bag
A chance to win ten fat eighths from my new collection that debuts in May!
Join for a month to try us out or join for the year. Just join us!
And that was my week!
Now let’s see who made this week’s feature
Each week on Wednesday Wait Loss I celebrate the linkups that catch my eye. Sometimes it’s a beautiful quilt/quilt top and sometimes it’s a wonderful story about a work in progress. I then feature those projects on the next week’s WWL.
Let’s start with the works in progress that turned my head. Please stop by each quilter’s blog to leave an encouraging comment so they can celebrate a finish soon!
Up first is Leeanna @ Not Afraid of Color shared RSC blocks, this time in yellow. So pretty!
Next, Deb @ A Scrappy Quilter shared the scrappy blocks she’s been making. I just love scrappy, don’t you?
Gretchen @ Gretchen’s Little Corner shared her Radiant Blues blocks. Aren’t these gorgeous?
Next, Jocelyn @ Canadian Needle Nana shared her work on Bramble Blooms. So fun and summery!
Finally, Margo @ MY Quilts and Crafts shared her Blue House project. Margo is repurposing some jeans for her piece. I love how inventive this is, don’t you?
Now let’s take a look at the the finishes that caught my eye.
Up first is Nancy @ Grace and Peace Quilting who shared three quilts she quilted for a customer. Here’s my favorite. Don’t you just love that coral stripe that runs through the blue blocks? Lovely.
Next, Frederique @ Quilting Patchwork Applique shared three quilts, including this lovely Coral Garden quilt. Such creativity! I love it.
And finally, I’d like to introduce Elana @ That Fabric Feeling who is new to our Wednesday Wait Loss group. Please drop by her blog and leave a comment to welcome her. Elana shared tons of projects she’s been working on but hadn’t yet blogged about. Here are a few of my favorites.
Welcome to Wednesday Wait Loss, Elana!

Wednesday Wait Loss 376
Welcome to Wednesday Wait Loss! WWL is a place where you can share photos of quilts you’re working on and get encouragement to finish them from our Wednesday Wait Loss group!
First let me tell you what I've been up to
On Thursday, I hosted a Sip & Sew retreat with the members of My Quilty Neighborhood.
I’m excited to let you know that the doors to my membership are open! They will be open only for a short time, but if you are interested be sure to check it out.
There are several bonuses for fast-action takers so don’t miss out on these extra goodies. One bonus disappears tomorrow (Thursday) at midnight EST!
Over the weekend I prepped for an upcoming guild presentation later this week. I can’t wait! It should be a lot of fun.
Also on Saturday I hosted my two hundred and thirteenth Saturday Sew-in. Come share what you’re working on while getting to know quilters from around the world at this weekly online sewing retreat. It’s an online quilt guild!
Join us this Saturday for Saturday Sew-in #214 - from 8 AM to 6 PM EST. Come sew with us and make some new quilty friends!
On I published Episode 4 of the My Quilty Neighborhood Podcast. Episode 4 continues the discussion on how to cut fabric accurately for quilting, focusing on accurately cutting strips, subcutting, power cutting and rotary cutter safety.
Up first is Maggie @ Making a Lather who shared her Churn Dash top. It’s in line to be quilted sometime soon and I can’t wait to see it! I love all those pretty churn dashes!
Next, Karen @ Quilts Etc shared the Happy Daze blocks she’s making for RSC. What a pretty quilt this will be! I simply love it.
Melva @ Melva Loves Scraps shared the blocks for her Pieces of My Life quilt. You know how I love purple!
And finally, Allison @ A Messy House is a Sign of a Happy Quilter shared the top she’s been making with her fussy cut blocks. Each block is so fascinating with the way she’s able to match the patterns, don’t you agree?
Now let’s take a look at the the finishes that caught my eye.
Up first is Kat @ Scrapbox Quilts who shared this adorable Dino Dinosaur quilt. There’s something about dinosaurs that just makes me smile. Aren’t those panels perfect?
Next, Turid @ Den Syende Himmel shared a class she taught recently on making quiet books. Each book was adorable and you must simply stop by her blog to see the cute pages.
Nann @ With Strings Attached shared her Hollyhocks wall hanging. It has me dreaming of summer!
Next, Lisa @ Flickr shared this adorable Baseball Baby quilt. Some little boy is going to fall in love with this (and his parents will too!)
And finally Dawn @ Quilting by Dawn shared two finished quilts! Her first quilt is itsy bitsy. I think I might go blind trying to make that! And her second quilt is an optical illusion. So cool! What’s even cooler is that Dawn had her husband make a frame so she could stretch her quilt over it like a painter’s canvas. What a wonderful way to finish a quilt!
Congratulations quilters!

Welcome to Wednesday Wait Loss! WWL is a place where you can share photos of quilts you’re working on and get encouragement to finish them from our Wednesday Wait Loss group!
First let me tell you what I've been up to
On Wednesday, I filmed the next episodes of the My Quilty Neighborhood podcast—this time the topic was accurate cutting! I can’t wait to share all my tips and tricks with you.
The rest of the week, I worked on the commission quilt, adding binding and a hanging sleeve. I’ll save the big reveal until I can get pretty photos.
Also on Saturday I hosted my two hundred and twelfth Saturday Sew-in. Come share what you’re working on while getting to know quilters from around the world at this weekly online sewing retreat. It’s an online quilt guild!
Join us this Saturday for Saturday Sew-in #213 - from 8 AM to 6 PM EST. Come sew with us and make some new quilty friends!
On Sunday my daughter came to visit and we started my birthday celebration. As part of that celebration, I blew out the candles on the sun and enjoyed the eclipse!
And that was my week!

Next, Marsha @ Marsha’s Spot shared the projects she’s preparing for an upcoming retreat. What a joy to go off on retreat. Have fun, Marsha!
Donna @ DonnaLeeQ shared how she’s been reorganizing her scraps and making blocks. What a great way to use up scraps. Congratulations Donna on a job well done.
Next, Leeanna @ Not Afraid of Color shared several projects including these lovely Feathered Star blocks she’s making for RSC. So pretty! Leeanna shared her Table Scraps entry for this month as well. I simply love those stitches, don’t you?
And finally, Rebecca @ Rebecca Grace Quilting shared the progress she’s making on the sewing room in her new home. It looks wonderful, Rebecca! I wish you clear skies as you sail into this new adventure. Rebecca also shared her progress on projects including her Tilda Nine Patches—oh so pretty!
Now let’s take a look at the the finishes that caught my eye.
Up first is Preeti @ Sew Preeti Quilts who shared her newest quilt—Aurelia. Don’t you love the gradations she used here? Lovely!
Next, Deb @ A Scrappy Quilter shared her Log Cabin quilt and the quilts she’s finishing for charity. Deb always uses scraps so effectively to make wonderful quilts don’t you think?
Maggie @ Making a Lather shared several projects including this wonderful Show Off quilt. Simple in design but oh so pretty! What a gorgeous way to use those plaids. Maggie also shared her Falling Charms quilt. Love that bright pink border, don’t you?
And finally Allison @ A Messy House is a Sign of a Happy Quilter shared several projects including these cute little coasters she made for RSC.

Wednesday Wait Loss 374
Welcome to Wednesday Wait Loss! WWL is a place where you can share photos of quilts you’re working on and get encouragement to finish them from our Wednesday Wait Loss group!
First let me tell you what I've been up to
On Thursday I sewed up my Quilt Block Mania block for this month. The block debuted here yesterday. The theme was Beaches and I decided to focus on reading at the beach since that’s something I love to do. The block is called Summer Reading.
Learn how you can get the pattern for free!
On Saturday I added the applique to the commission quilt. Now to trim and bind and add a label!
Also on Saturday I hosted my two hundred and eleventh Saturday Sew-in. Come share what you’re working on while getting to know quilters from around the world at this weekly online sewing retreat. It’s an online quilt guild!
Join us this Saturday for Saturday Sew-in #212 - from 8 AM to 6 PM EST. Come sew with us and make some new quilty friends!
On Sunday I celebrated Easter with family. It was such fun to see everyone.
After I got back home, I published Episode 3 of the My Quilty Neighborhood podcast. This time we’re focusing on cutting your fabric accurately. There was a lot to share so the information was broken down into several episodes. This is the first in that series. Enjoy!
Yesterday I hosted the monthly meeting for My Quilty Neighborhood membership. We’re wrapping up our first challenge and racing to get quilts done to enter for a prize! We’re also looking forward to our next activity, which will be a mini-quilt swap.
The membership is becoming such a fun community! I hope you’ll consider joining us when the doors open again later this month. Sign up for my special waitlist and you’ll be the first to be able to join with a special offer!
Up first is Julie @ Julie’s Quilts and Costumes who shared this bright and cheery Around the Twist baby quilt top. Julie’s used this pattern before to make quilts, but never in this way, with such an intricate pattern of links. Isn’t it wonderful?
Next, Deb @ A Scrappy Quilter shared some quilt labels. I just love how she’s used those mini nine patches to dress up the labels, don’t you? So pretty.
Gretchen @ Gretchen’s Little Corner shared several quilt tops she recently finished—Tula Hexies, Dresden Stars, and Anniversary Quilt. Each one is so beautiful in it’s own right. Can’t wait to see how Gretchen quilts each of these!
And finally, I’d like to welcome Angie @ A Quilting Reader’s Garden to our little Wednesday Wait Loss group. Angie shared the quilting she’s doing on her SAHRR quilt. Angie injured herself while quilting this so it may be awhile before we see a finish. What I’m seeing now though looks very cute! Be sure to stop by Angie’s blog to leave a welcoming comment from us, and some warm wishes for a swift recovery. Welcome, Angie! We’re so glad to meet you.
Now let’s take a look at the the finishes that caught my eye.
Up first is Maggie @ Making a Lather who shared several projects, including the recent finish of her Antique Tile quilt! So bright and happy. I love it!
Next, Nancy @ Grace and Peace Quilting shared two quilts by her cousin Sue. Such pretty quilts! Nancy did a great job quilting them, don’t you think?
Judy @ J Bigg’s Scrap Pieces shared photos from her guild’s charity sew day. Oh my they got so many quilts done and each so wonderful! Kudos to Judy and her group for a job well done. These are just some of the quilts Judy shared. Drop by her blog to see the rest of these amazing quilts!
Next, Lisa shared an entire Thanksgiving table collection on Flickr. What a wonderful set of decoratives for the holiday, including a table runner, bowl cozies, casserole holder, and a woven trivet! Such inspiration here. Lovely job, Lisa!
And finally, Dawn @ Quilting by Dawn shared several projects including her newly finished Best Buds quilt. So cute and pretty!
Congratulations quilters!

Quilt Block Mania - April is Beach
Welcome to my stop on the Quilt Block Mania Blog Hop. Each of the designers participating in the hop are sharing a block pattern inspired by this month’s theme, which is Beach!
This is my fifth year participating in QBM, and I hope you’ve enjoyed my free block pattern each month! If you’ve missed any, the patterns for previous months are available in my shop.
To learn how to get my free pattern, see How to Get the Free Block at the end of this post.
I have designed several beach themed blocks in the past, including last month’s Cosmopolitan, so I was stuck for a good minute trying to think of something new for the beach. Then I remembered the thing I love to do when I’m at the beach—read a good novel and soak up the sun and the scenery!
I call my block Summer Reading. It uses raw-edge fusible applique techniques. If you need help with that technique, click here for a photo tutorial. I hope you’ll make my block and tag me on social media @inquiringquilter!
To learn how to get my free pattern, see How to Get the Free Block at the end of this post.
There are lots of designers in this hop so be sure to visit all of them for your free pattern. Here are links to all the blocks in the Quilt Block Mania Beach Series:

Welcome to Wednesday Wait Loss! WWL is a place where you can share photos of quilts you’re working on and get encouragement to finish them from our Wednesday Wait Loss group!
First let me tell you what I've been up to
For most of the week, I’ve working on quilting the commission piece. Here it is so far. All that’s left is adding the applique crabs.
On Sunday I uploaded the next block pattern in my Merry Christmas BOM to the My Quilty Neighborhood membership portal. This month, the block is Presents. I think the blocks turned out great! The pattern is in two sizes, and I’m making both sized blocks. I also offered a Bonus pattern this month for a Presents table runner. If you’re not in the membership, you can purchase the table runner pattern here in my shop.
Yesterday I taught the second class in an ongoing series I’m calling Basic Skills. This time, the topic was Precision Fabric Cutting.
On Saturday I hosted my two hundred and tenth Saturday Sew-in. Come share what you’re working on while getting to know quilters from around the world at this weekly online sewing retreat. It’s an online quilt guild!

And finally, Jocelyn @ Canadian Needle Nana shared several projects including her Bramble Blooms improv quilt. I love how Jocelyn chose to add a few orange peel blocks because they really echo the feeling of her center block. I’m excited to see where she goes from here.
Now let’s take a look at the the finishes that caught my eye.
Up first is Marsha @ Marsha’s Spot who shared a set of Harry Potter coasters she made. I love Harry Potter and these are so cute! Love the variety of fabrics, don’t you?

Wednesday Wait Loss 372
Welcome to Wednesday Wait Loss! WWL is a place where you can share photos of quilts you’re working on and get encouragement to finish them from our Wednesday Wait Loss group!
First let me tell you what I've been up to
On Thursday, I hosted an online sewing retreat for the quilters in the My Quilty Neighborhood membership. It was fun but also scary, as we had severe thunderstorms and tornado warnings out that night! Luckily we got through it without Zoom cutting out.
Sip & Sews are just one of the things we do in my quilting membership. If you’re interested, I’ll be opening the doors in the spring. Sign up here to be the first to be notified.
Speaking of My Quilty Neighborhood, I also have a podcast by that name and it’s free to listen to. Episode Two went up this past Sunday, and it’s the second part of my focus on pressing properly. Give it a listen!
The rest of the week, I sewed together the top for a commission quilt I’m making. I call it Beaches. I need to quilt this then add applique crabs. It’s going to be so pretty when it’s done!
On Saturday I hosted my two hundred and nineth Saturday Sew-in. Come share what you’re working on while getting to know quilters from around the world at this weekly online sewing retreat. It’s an online quilt guild!
Join us this Saturday for Saturday Sew-in #210 - from 8 AM to 6 PM EST. Come sew with us and make some new quilty friends!
Up first is Sharon @ Sew Quilty Good shared her New Year’s Day mystery blocks. Aren’t they gorgeous? I love this mix of reds and blues and black! So pretty.
Next, Maggie @ Making a Lather shared progress on her Split Nine Patch top. What a lovely way to use scraps! Such a pretty design she’s making with the dark patches don’t you think?
Gretchen @ Gretchen’s Little Corner shared her Anniversary quilt top. What a labor of love! The borders with the small squares is simply perfect and adds so much to this! Love it.
And finally, Deb @ A Scrappy Quilter shared the results of a recent quilt repair. An anxious dog had chewed a hole in a quilt but thankfully without too much fuss, Deb was able to repair it. Looks better than new!
Now let’s take a look at the the finishes that caught my eye.
Up first is Nancy @ Grace and Peace Quilting shared her beautiful Dina quilt. Isn’t it pretty? Nancy even shared the bonus quilt she made from the scraps! So clever.
Next, Nann @ With Strings Attached shared her Pinwheel Nine Patch quilt. I just love the black pinwheels and the pops of color from those tiny nine patches! Such a pretty quilt.
Leeanna @ Not Afraid of Color shared an adorable apron she made for Project Quilting and a lovely Kawandi Case she made for RSC. I love how these challenges inspire such beauty and creativity!
Next, Melisa @ Pinker n Punkin Quilting and Stitching shared this adorable embroidered quilt. Don’t you just love it?
Melva @ Melva Loves Scraps shared her Pieces of My Life quilt. Love the blues! I can’t wait to hear the story behind each block, can you?
And finally, Allison @ A Messy House is a Sign of a Happy Quilter shared blocks and a quilt top she made from several quilt alongs by the Partners in Design (a group of quilt designers I’m a member of). First, I can’t tell you all how much I love it when you share what you’ve made with one of my patterns. And Allison, these tops are so pretty and you made them so meaningful with your fabric and design choices. Just lovely! Allison also shared a top she made using several patterns from this month’s Quilt Block Mania, including my Cosmopolitan block. What a cute pillow this is going to make! Thank you Allison for sharing your projects. This means everything. Thank you!
My Cosmopolitan block by the way is free to my newsletter subscribers. Sign up here and watch for Sunday’s newsletter to download the block for free!
Congratulations quilters!

Wednesday Wait Loss 371
Welcome to Wednesday Wait Loss! WWL is a place where you can share photos of quilts you’re working on and get encouragement to finish them from our Wednesday Wait Loss group!
First let me tell you what I've been up to
On Thursday, it was my day on the Romance Garden Blog Hop, and I debuted my new Broken Road Mini using that collection. I’ve updated my current Broken Road pattern to include three sizes, and added a new Broken Road Mini (with two sizes). Both patterns debut in May with my first signature collection with Island Batik.
I’ll be hosting a quilt along for Broken Road in May and you can sign up here to receive updates and a coupon code when the patterns are ready.
The rest of the week, I was writing and testing the next pattern in my Merry Christmas BOM, which is exclusive to the My Quilty Neighborhood membership. The doors to the membership will open again in April, so sign up for the wait list if you want to be the first to know.
On Saturday I hosted my two hundred and eighth Saturday Sew-in. It’s four years old, can you believe it? Come share what you’re working on while getting to know quilters from around the world at this weekly online sewing retreat. It’s an online quilt guild!
Join us this Saturday for Saturday Sew-in #209 - from 8 AM to 6 PM EST. Come sew with us and make some new quilty friends!
Up first is Karen @ Quilt Etc who shared her New York Beauty blocks. Isn’t this wonderful? This is just the center and apparently there is more amazingness in the borders. I can’t wait to see!
Next, Leeanna @ Not Afraid of Color shared her newly finished SAHRR (Stay at Home Round Robin) top. What a great job Leeanna did with each round! I love how she carried the garden theme throughout, don’t you?
Jocelyn @ Canadian Needle Nana shared these oh so tiny nine patches. Aren’t they amazing? Just 3 inches square!
And finally, Celine @ Espritpatch shared her latest batik Dear Jane block. So lovely!
Now let’s take a look at the the finishes that caught my eye.
Up first is Allison @ A Messy House is a Sign of a Happy Quilter who shared her Indigo Way quilt. Don’t you just love it? The combination of that hot pink and the navy just sends me.
Next, Bonnie @ Institches with Bonnie shared her Rainbow Parade quilt. I just love rainbow quilts, and the transparency here is wonderful!
Maggie @ Making a Lather shared her newly finished Falling Charms quilt. Isn’t it pretty with those African fabrics? They really pop with that black background.
Next, Kat @ Scrapbox Quilts shared two 3 yard quilts. Fast and easy to make and oh so pretty!
And finally, Lisa shared two quilts on Flickr—Beachy lap quilt and Seeds of Gratitude. Lisa likes to do her own thing, combining panels with patchwork and/or parts from different patterns to create lovely quilts!
Congratulations quilters!
Grab an I Was Featured badge for your blogs or to simply print out and wear with pride. Thank you for supporting my blog!
Time to link up!
It’s time to link up your projects - whether finished or just begun, we want to see them!

My Day on the Romance Garden Blog Hop
Welcome to my day on the Romance Garden blog hop!
The twelve day celebration of this gorgeous Island Batik collection started Friday, March 1st. Every day on the hop you’ll be able to visit another designer to see Romance Garden featured in a quilt project. Such inspiration!
Romance Garden is a Signature collection by Sherry @ Powered by Quilting. Sherry is a super talented quilter, and a fellow member of the Partners in Design.
Romance Garden is arriving in stores now. Click here to find a quilt store near you that carries Island Batiks.
Introducing Broken Road Mini
When Sherry reached out for supporters for her lovely collection, I immediately knew I wanted to make it in my upcoming Broken Road Mini pattern.
When I saw Romance Garden, I was immediately struck by it’s loveliness. I love the mix of greens with the red and blue violets. And the butterfly, dragonfly, and floral motifs are perfect for a garden theme. Talk about gorgeous!
I think the fabrics in this collection look lovely from any angle!
I’m Hosting a Broken Road Quilt Along!
My Broken Road Mini pattern is not ready for release just yet, but it will be in May when my Signature collection becomes available in stores. The Broken Road Mini pattern will include two sizes—Crib and Wall. I’ve updated my Broken Road pattern as well so it includes multiple sizes too—Lap, Twin, and Queen. Both patterns will be released in May.
My Romance Garden quilt is shown in the Crib size. The quilt on the left, shown in the Red, White, and Blooms collection, is Twin size. Both patterns include yardage and cutting directions for using a rotary cutter or AccuQuilt to make the quilt.
To celebrate the release of my first Signature collection and the new versions of Broken Road and Broken Road Mini, I’ll be hosting a quilt along. You can make any of the five sizes for the quilt along. Participants will receive a discount code for the patterns and a chance to win fabrics from my collection.
Interesting in Quilting Along?
Sign up below and in April I’ll send you details on the Broken Road Quilt Along and the discount codes for the patterns as soon as they become available.
Yep! I can't wait to make Broken Road!
Yes! Put me on the list!
As you're waiting to start the quilt along, you'll receive my newsletter with free monthly patterns, quilty tips and insights, and fun tutorials. Plus you get a free pattern just for subscribing! Unsubscribe at anytime.

Wednesday Wait Loss 370
Welcome to Wednesday Wait Loss! WWL is a place where you can share photos of quilts you’re working on and get encouragement to finish them from our Wednesday Wait Loss group!
First let me tell you what I've been up to
Last Wednesday I updated my Greek Mosaic pattern to showcase my first Signature collection which debuts in May. I can’t wait to share the collection with you, and my new and updated patterns!
On Friday, I scheduled more classes on basic skills at my lqs. I’m so excited about this series that focuses on the basic skills all quilters should know, such as pressing, cutting, and sewing that darn quarter-inch.
On Saturday, I quilted a version of my Broken Roads Mini pattern, which will debut in May. This new quilt is for the Romance Garden blog hop and will debut on my blog tomorrow!
On Saturday I hosted my two hundred and seventh Saturday Sew-in. Come share what you’re working on while getting to know quilters from around the world at this weekly online sewing retreat. It’s an online quilt guild!
Join us this Saturday for Saturday Sew-in #208 - from 8 AM to 6 PM EST. Come sew with us and make some new quilty friends!
On Sunday, I launched my new My Quilty Neighborhood podcast! Right now, the podcast is being hosted on YouTube, but I hope to add Spotify as an audio only option in the near future.
Listen to Episode One, where me and my friend Dawn discuss the ins and outs of pressing your blocks properly.
Yesterday, the March block for Quilt Block Mania debuted on my blog. This month’s theme is Drinks, and being a big Sex in the City fan, I chose to feature that classic cocktail, the Cosmopolitan on my block. I imagined me beachside, sipping a Cosmo and feeling all sunny and relaxed.
Jump over here to learn how you can get the block pattern for free!
Up first is Preeti @ Sew Preeti Quilts who shared these lovely red blocks, made for RSC. Don’t you just love the variety of red batiks she’s using here? Beautiful.
Next, Chris @ Quilting at the Farm shared blocks from her 150 Canadian Women project. I love the strong red and black color scheme she’s chosen to remember these remarkable women.
Donna @ DonnaLeeQ shared her Southern Charm top. Donna wanted to make something easy after a more difficult project. I think she made a lovely choice! Pretty fabrics too, don’t you think?
Next, Alice shared her Cocktail Stars top, made for a friend. Love these colors—they remind me of fall. Great job, Alice!
And finally, Gretchen @ Gretchen’s Little Corner shared these sweet little Posey blocks. Love the fabrics!
Now let’s take a look at the the finishes that caught my eye.
Up first is Marsha @ Marsha’s Spot who shared this pretty little Cake Mix top. I love combining blue with brown, don’t you?
Next, Nancy @ Grace and Peace Quilting shared a customer’s t-shirt quilt. Don’t you just love how the customer offset each shirt? Nancy picked the perfect motif for quilting this, as always.
Viridian @ Viridian’s Blog shared her Snow Day quilt. The classic red white and blue fabrics Viridian used for this are just perfect for this classic quilt design! Lovely.
Next, Melva @ Melva Loves Scraps shared these adorable curtains she made for her van. Aren’t they perfect?
Frederique @ Quilting Patchwork Applique shared these cute little premie quilts she and her friends made for a local hospital. What generous quilters!
Next, Gail @ Quilting Gail made these two quilts to feature a new batik collection. What great designs!
And finally, Brenda @ BrendaisQuilting shared an Ohio Star Variation quilt she made for local veterans. Isn’t it lovely? Just perfect for a veteran.
Congratulations quilters!

Quilt Block Mania - March is Drinks
Welcome to my stop on the Quilt Block Mania Blog Hop. Each of the designers participating in the hop are sharing a block pattern inspired by this month’s theme, which is Drinks!
This is my fifth year participating in QBM, and I hope you’ve enjoyed my free block pattern each month! If you’ve missed any, the patterns for previous months are available in my shop.
To learn how to get my free pattern, see How to Get the Free Block at the end of this post.
I have designed several beach themed blocks in the past, so with the theme Drinks I decided to go with something cool and refreshing for sipping beachside—the Cosmopolitan.
I call my block Cosmopolitan.
Here are links to all the blocks in the Quilt Block Mania Drinks Series:

Before you go, let me tell you about everything that’s going on here this week.
Happenings Here at Inquiring Quilter
I just started a podcast! I call it the My Quilty Neighborhood Podcast, and it’s all things quilty! Come give the first episode a listen. My friend Dawn and I talk about pressing your quilt blocks properly.
On Thursday, it’s my day on the Romance Garden blog hop! Come see the quilt I made using the new Signature collection by my pal Sherry @ Powered by Quilting and enter to win her scrap bag of fabrics from this gorgeous collection.
My weekly show and tell linkup, Wednesday Wait Loss is over seven years old! Over the years, my little weekly group has encouraged many wonderful finishes. Join us by sharing your latest project.
Here’s a link to this week’s show and tell link up.
If you’re looking to make new friends, join me on Facebook this Saturday for my weekly online quilting retreat I call my Saturday Sew-In. The fun starts at 8 AM EST and runs through 5 PM EST. It’s not live but there are get to know you prompts throughout the day to spark discussion and friendship. This is a fun and friendly group and you’ll soon make friends—real friends.
In addition, you’ll be inspired by other quilter’s projects and you’ll gets tons of encouragement as you share your own. Wednesday Wait Loss 368
Welcome to Wednesday Wait Loss! WWL is a place where you can share photos of quilts you’re working on and get encouragement to finish them from our Wednesday Wait Loss group!
First let me tell you what I've been up to
Last Wednesday I recorded the first episode of a new vlogcast (podcast with video) that I’m hoping to debut soon! I’m recording episodes every two weeks with my bestie, Dawn and boy are we having fun.
I spent a lot of the rest of the week writing and tech checking the first pattern in my Christmas BOM, Merry Christmas. I can’t wait to share what this first block looks like but members first!
On Saturday I hosted my two hundred and fifth Saturday Sew-in. Come share what you’re working on while getting to know quilters from around the world at this weekly online sewing retreat. It’s an online quilt guild!
Join us this Saturday for Saturday Sew-in #206 - from 8 AM to 6 PM EST. Come sew with us and make some new quilty friends!
On Sunday we celebrated my husband’s birthday (it was actually yesterday) by visiting a bar-cade. He and my daughter just love playing arcade games!
The rest of the time I worked on designs for my third collection. It has a lovely fall vibe that I’m just loving!
Up first is Donna @ DonnaLeeQ shared several projects including her Attic Windows top. Love these fabrics.
Next, Gretchen @ Gretchen’s Little Corner shared her newly finished Dresden Stars top. Isn’t it gorgeous?
Turid @ Den Syende Himmel shared these adorable improv fish blocks she’s working on. Don’t you just love those blues?
Next, Rebecca @ Rebecca Grace Quilting is in the process of moving, but she took the time to stop by. No better thing to do when you’re stressed out then to buy some gorgeous fabric, right? So pretty.
Dawn @ Quilting by Dawn shared her blocks for the Best Buds QAL. Aren’t they cute? Love them.
And finally, Jocelyn @ Canadian Needle Nana shared her Crossroads blocks and my book! Thank you Jocelyn for your glowing review. So glad you found it helpful and that you want to make all the projects!
Now let’s take a look at the the finishes that caught my eye.
Up first is Brenda @ BrendaisQuilting shared this adorable Cats Eye quilt. I simply love this—the colors, fabrics, and quilting. Well done Brenda!
Next, Margo @ MY Quilts and Crafts shared a Turning Twenty top she made for charity. She’s never made one before, bur didn’t she do a great job?
And finally, Joy @ Days Filled with Joy shared a lovely tutorial for making lavender hearts sachets. Give it a try!
Congratulations quilters!

Wednesday Wait Loss 367
Welcome to Wednesday Wait Loss! WWL is a place where you can share photos of quilts you’re working on and get encouragement to finish them from our Wednesday Wait Loss group!
First let me tell you what I've been up to
Wednesday and Thursday I concentrated on writing patterns for my new collection. One of those is a mini version of my Broken Road pattern. While I was at it, I updated Broken Road to include more sizes. Both will be released soon.
On Friday I finished the first pattern in the Merry Christmas BOM and chose fabrics for a wall and a lap version (the pattern includes two sizes). Merry Christmas is exclusive to the My Quilty Neighborhood membership right now.
On Saturday I hosted my two hundred and fourth Saturday Sew-in. Come share what you’re working on while getting to know quilters from around the world at this weekly online sewing retreat. It’s an online quilt guild!
Join us this Saturday for Saturday Sew-in #205 - from 8 AM to 6 PM EST. Come sew with us and make some new quilty friends!
Also on Saturday I continued work on a new Broken Road Mini that will debut during a blog hop next month. I also worked on a design for a wall hanging for a commission. It’s beach themed because they live at the beach.
On Monday I worked on designs for my third batik collection. After the designs are selected for the catalog, I’ll get the entire collection shipped to me and will begin making the quilts.
Up first is Deb @ A Scrappy Quilter who shared her scrappy Pineapple blocks. All these colors just make me happy as a rainbow!
Next, Leeanna @ Not Afraid of Color shared her progress on the SAHRR. Leeanna’s going with a garden theme—with lattice, a garden wall, and birds flying in the air! So clever.
Deana @ Daughters of Dorinda shared these adorable seal blocks she’s making as a memory of her trip to the Cape Palliser Seal Colony. So stinkin’ cute! They have such personality, don’t they?
And finally, Alice shared several projects including blocks she’s making for a Temperature quilt. Alice also shared Fifi, an adorable fox. So soft and cuddly! I love it.
Now let’s take a look at the the finishes that caught my eye.
Up first is Maggie @ Making a Lather who shared several projects, including her Carolina Chain quilt. So pretty and scrappy. Love that dark border, don’t you?
Next, Kat @ Scrapbox Quilts shared her Color My World quilt. I love the simplicity and boldness of this design! I don’t know if she made this for RSC, but it would be a good one.
Melva @ Melva Loves Scraps shared several projects including these adorable Corn Cards she made with fabric acquired long ago. Don’t you just love that fabric? So cute for Valentine’s.
Next, Vicki @ Vicki’s Crafts and Quilting shared this Triple Zipper bag. It looks so useful, doesn’t it? Love the colors of course. ❤️
And finally, Lisa on Flickr shared this adorable Plant Themed Baby quilt. Aren’t those appliques just perfect? Those snails melt my heart, and the frog just makes me smile. What a cute little baby quilt for a garden themed room.
Congratulations quilters!

Wednesday Wait Loss 366
Welcome to Wednesday Wait Loss! WWL is a place where you can share photos of quilts you’re working on and get encouragement to finish them from our Wednesday Wait Loss group!
First let me tell you what I've been up to
On Friday I recorded a Welcome video for my quilting membership to show members around our Hub. I get so proud of myself when I figure out technology!
On Saturday I sewed up block units for a new version of Broken Road Mini. This new version features batiks in a collection that will debut soon. Can’t wait to share it with you!
On Saturday I hosted my two hundred and third Saturday Sew-in. Come share what you’re working on while getting to know quilters from around the world at this weekly online sewing retreat. It’s an online quilt guild!
Join us this Saturday for Saturday Sew-in #204 - from 8 AM to 6 PM EST. Come sew with us and make some new quilty friends!
On Monday I hosted the February meeting for my quilting membership, My Quilty Neighborhood. It was so nice getting together and talking all things quilty.
I also worked on a Block of the Month quilt that will be offered to my members. It’s Christmas themed and I’m super excited about it! The first block pattern will be out later this month. Each month it’s going to be like opening the best Christmas present. Can you tell I’m excited? 😊
If you’d like to be notified when My Quilty Neighborhood opens up, click here.
Yesterday, my block for this month’s Quilt Block Mania debuted. The theme this month was Maker, and my new block features two essential tools for sewing—thread and bobbins!
The block is free to subscribers. Click here to subscribe to my newsletter.
Up first is Gail @ Quilting Gail who shared several projects including her Stay at Home Round Robin quilt. Such pretty blues, greens, and purples! Love the fabrics you are using Gail! Can’t wait to watch as this grows with each SAHRR round.
Next, Deana @ Daughters of Dorinda shared several projects she’s been working on, including Disney Princesses. Here’s Cinderella. Such detail! Worthy of a princess, don’t you think? Deana, the fabric you found for her hair and dress is just perfect! Love it.
Rebecca @ Rebecca Grace Quilting shared progress on her Deco quilt. Since she’s in the process of moving, Rebecca was also recording where she is on this project so she can take it back up more easily once she’s settled in her new home. Smart girl!
I hope you get your studio back together soon because personally I can’t wait to see more of this! I love Art Deco and this is stunning.
Next, Julie @ Julie’s Quilts and Costumes shared her Jabberwocky top. Look at those points! So perfect. Can’t wait to see how you are going to quilt this. Love the setting—it’s unusual and really sets off those magnificent star blocks.
Viridian @ Viridian’s Blog shared a block from Silk Path, a Bonnie Hunter pattern. Don’t you love the complexity in this block? I can’t wait to see the pattern they make when set together. The simplicity of the color scheme in just blue and cream really sets off the design. Great choice, Viridian!
And finally, Turid @ Den Syende Himmel shared her newly finished Circle quilt top. Simple yet striking! I just love the choice of red as a background here. So fresh and modern.
Now let’s take a look at the the finishes that caught my eye.
Up first is Nann @ With Strings Attached who shared several recent finishes including a batik Double Four Patch quilt. I’m overwhelmed by the sheer number of finishes here, and each so scrappy and lovely!
Next, Donna @ DonnaLeeQ shared several recent finishes as well. Is there something in the water? 😄 If so, point me to it because I want this many finishes too! Love your table runners Donna, and the topper. I think I have that panel shown in the bottom runner and you’ve inspired me to do something with it!
Preeti @ Sew Preeti Quilts shared her Kashvi quilt, recently published in Make Modern magazine. Preeti is all about bright sunshiny colors and this quilt is no exception. Lovely!
And finally, Dawn @ Quilting by Dawn shared her newly finished Harmony and Light quilt. Simply stunning! I really love this.
Congratulations quilters!

Wednesday Wait Loss 365
Welcome to Wednesday Wait Loss! WWL is a place where you can share photos of quilts you’re working on and get encouragement to finish them from our Wednesday Wait Loss group!
Last week I celebrated 7 years of Wednesday Wait Loss with a giveaway! Read on to find out who won.
First let me tell you what I've been up to
Yesterday I shipped off my quilts to California for catalog photography! What a relief to have them done and on their way. My second collection for Island Batik is gorgeous and I can’t wait to share it with you this fall.
On Saturday I hosted a Sip & Sew online quilting retreat through Zoom for my quilting membership. How lovely to sew and chat with friends! I got a lot done and it was fun.
On Saturday I hosted my two hundred and second Saturday Sew-in. Come share what you’re working on while getting to know quilters from around the world at this weekly online sewing retreat. It’s an online quilt guild!
Join us this Saturday for Saturday Sew-in #203 - from 8 AM to 6 PM EST. Come sew with us and make some new quilty friends!
On Monday I took some quick photos of my quilts before mailing them off to California. It requires a lot of patience to get the quilts to hang still when the wind wants to pick them up and fly with them. It seems it never matters when I take photos or the season, there is always wind!
Here’s a photo of Swift, taken about 2 years ago and yep, there was wind!
Also on Monday I spent time cutting up fabrics from my first collection for a blog hop with my fellow designers to debut the collection. They’ve created designs that feature the fabrics and will be creating quilts and quilted projects just for the hop!
Watch for my blog hop in May! There will be three giveaways of fabrics—one set for the blog hop and another for an Instagram promotion that follows right after.
I’ll be offering the third set of fabrics as a prize in my Broken Road Mini QAL, which will follow right after. I hope you’ll join me! As you can see Broken Road is adorable and would be cute in any collection. The QAL starts May 23rd.
Up first are two quilters who are new here to Wednesday Wait Loss. Let’s give them all a warm welcome! Anne Kirby shared a photo of her Nine Patch on Point top. Such gorgeous teals! It’s like swimming in the ocean. Can’t wait to see this finished Anne! Welcome to Wednesday Wait Loss.
Next, Danielle @ Just an Average Quilter shared several projects, including her Neighborhood quilt top. The pattern is exclusive to my quilting membership. What lovely fabrics Danielle used here! Neighborhood is designed so you can easily use up scraps to make it but Danielle chose to use a favorite collection and the results are so lovely! What a pretty neighborhood. Let’s welcome Danielle to Wednesday Wait Loss!
Kat @ Scrapbox Quilts shared this pretty 16 Patch quilt top she made for charity. What a clever use of the the Pooh border fabric! It really makes this special. Can’t you see some lucky child just squealing with delight?
Next, Gretchen @ Gretchen’s Little Corner shared a corner of the Hearts & Wreaths quilt she is hand quilting. The quilting motif is perfect for this border and really sets off the lovely applique.
Jocelyn @ Canadian Needle Nana shared several projects including her set of Quiltmania Christmas blocks. They are so adorable! What a lovely quilt these will make!
Next, Leanna @ Not Afraid of Color shared several projects too, including the center block she’ll be using for her Stay At Home Round Robin. What a gorgeous beginning to her quilt! It’ll be fun to see this grow each week.
And finally, Brenda @ BrendaisQuilting shared several projects including this wonderful Cats Eye top, all ready for quilting. Such pretty fabrics! What a striking design.
Now let’s take a look at the the finishes that caught my eye.
We had several quilters new to Wednesday Wait Loss link up finished quilts. Let’s be sure to give them a warm Wednesday Wait Loss welcome.

Next, Joansy @ The Life of Grammy shared several projects, including this adorable Weebraw Bag she made for the White Rabbit blog hop. That bunny fabric is so cute! And the dotted white fabric looks just like snow. Perfect little winter rabbit project! Welcome Joansy to Wednesday Wait Loss! We can’t wait to see your next project.
Susie Lopez shared these adorable memory bears she’s been making. What a perfect way to preserve the memory of a special someone. Thanks for joining us Susie! I can’t wait to see what you’ll make next. Welcome to Wednesday Wait Loss.
Next, Maggie @ Making a Lather shared several projects, including her Too Many Circles quilt. Too many circles indeed, but what a great way to perfect your curved piecing. Congrats Maggie on another awesome finish!
Lisa England shared this adorable Armadillo quilt. I just love the fabrics she chose and how she added the armadillos in a banner across the quilt. Lovely!
Next, Melva @ Melva Loves Scraps shared a Colorado table runner and this cute set of soup bowl cozies. Aren’t these perfect for a Colorado fan?
Marsha @ Marsha’s Spot shared several items she made for her booth, using the RSC color of the month as her inspiration. Love these greens, don’t you?
Next, Alice Martina Smith shared several projects, including this lovely Lake Michigan Blues Minky quilt. Alice use some gorgeous Minky fabrics to depict Lake Michigan, don’t you think? Oh so soft! Wouldn’t you want to snuggle in this while dreaming of Lake Michigan?
And finally, Kathy @ Hazel’s Daughter shared her Project Quilting quilt. The prompt was sky colors. Isn’t this a wonderful modern version of a sunrise/sunset?
Congratulations quilters!

Do You Prewash?
I do not.
I know, I know. For every quilter who doesn’t prewash, there are two who do because they had a quilt bleed on them.
I did too, after my husband decided it was a good idea to wash one of my quilts in hot water because the cat threw up on it. It was a lovely, perfect red and white quilt that I hadn’t prewashed or even tested because I was rushing to meet a deadline. Because it was made with two different highly saturated reds and the purest of whites, I decided to be careful with it, to use it for display only, and not to wash it ever.
So much for grand plans.
One Christmas I forgot my resolve and displayed it on the bed and well, you know the rest. Luckily I know what to do when a quilt bleeds so the damage wasn’t awful and now well, I no longer have to be careful with it. Since I believe quilts should be used this result suited me just fine.
Still, I do not prewash much at all.
Whether you chose to prewash or not the choice is entirely up to you. I firmly believe there is no right or wrong way to do anything in quilting. So if you came here in search of the Quilt Police in hopes they might tell you the rules involving prewashing, I’m afraid there really aren’t any.
What I can do is clarify some of the pros and cons of prewashing so you can decide for yourself.
Prewashers Have Their Reasons
There are several good reasons why you might want to prewash your quilting fabrics.
Allergic? Yeah, me too
For one, prewashing removes chemicals and allergens from your fabric and that's a good thing for sure! I seem to have developed allergies as I've aged so this seems a very good reason for me to consider prewashing.
I don’t have sensitive skin however, but if I did prewashing would help there too.
Don’t bleed on my quilt!
Prewashing also provides some indication about the colorfastness of fabric, and knowing that in advance to using a fabric in a quilt can help you decide what to do about it. For example, had I tested that stupid red fabric I might have chosen something else, or I might have washed it first in Retayne which would have set the dye.
Which fabrics are the biggest offenders? Heavily saturated reds, purples, and blues. I don’t mean a print that has a bit of red in it, I mean fabric that screams red! So if you are about to use an in-your-face red, purple or dark blue fabric in your quilt, you might consider prewashing it first or at least testing it for color fastness (more on that in a moment.)
By the way, I’ve heard some people say that they will never use batiks because batiks will bleed. My experience as an Island Batik Ambassador and now Island Batik Designer is that is not true, at least not with high quality batiks like Island Batiks and others you find at a quilt store. In fact during the process of being dyed, Island Batiks are boiled repeatedly (to remove the wax) so I can’t imagine how any excess dye could remain.
Honey I Shrunk the Quilt!
If you prewash, you will preshrink your fabric just a bit, reducing the characteristic puckering that occurs after you wash a newly quilted quilt the first time. I happen to like that puckering so this is not an issue for me but for some it really is!
Keep in mind that your batting will shrink too so you will get some puckering regardless, but prewashing will definitely reduce the amount of shrinkage that occurs and preserve that never-been washed look you love.
I’m All Mixed Up!
Prewashing also allows you to mix fabric types more easily because they have all been preshrunk.
For example, if you are mixing cottons with flannels or flannels with wovens, prewashing might be your best friend! Since batiks are more or less preshrunk when you buy them, prewashing fabrics you want to mix with batiks is also a good idea.
In this case the prewashing will prevent uneven puckering from occurring when you wash a quilt with mixed fibers.
Quilters Who Don’t Prewash Have Their Reasons Too
On the other side, there are several reasons why you shouldn’t bother to prewash.
you get what you pay for
Dyes are typically set during the manufacturing process (so they can’t be released when washed) but inferior dyes and dying processes often result in washing disasters. To avoid this, I buy only quilting cottons from my local quilt store and not from a big box store. Unfortunately, all quilt fabric is not the same, and the fabric you find at a big box store is often less expensively made.
For example, big box store fabric may be contain a lower thread count, may use less expensive dyes and dying methods, and may have been finished in a way that results in an inferior hand (feel) to the fabric. To me, it’s worth paying a bit more to purchase fabric of higher quality when I’m making a quilt because I want my time and effort to be rewarded by a quilt that lasts. And I don’t want to introduce issues that hamper my making because I’m using less than high quality materials.
Still, it’s important to note that just because it costs less, that doesn’t mean your big box store fabric will always bleed or that quilt store fabric won’t. It’s just that your chances are improved when you purchase higher quality fabric.
Do I use big box store fabric for some of my projects? Sure, especially when I’m looking for trademarked images like Disney, Pooh, or local sports teams. You typically can’t find those fabrics at your local quilt store because it’s not cost effective to reproduce them in high quality fabric. So I buy, then prewash.
Ugh. Can I Get Started Already?
My biggest reason for not prewashing is simply that it takes time—time to wash, time to dry, and time to restarch using Best Press or Flatter and then iron my fabric before I can cut into it. Since I have invested in high quality fabric, I use that investment to save me time by skipping the prewashing phase.
it’s Just Easier to Cut
I also like how unwashed fabric feels. There’s a stiffness there (it’s called sizing) that allows me to cut more accurately. If you choose to prewash, make sure you also starch your fabric afterwards to restore this stiffness so you can get good accurate cuts.
I Don’t Want a Frayed Up Mess
Some fabrics you can’t prewash because they will fray, most notably precuts. Since I have no intention of not using precuts (such as fat quarters, 10” and 5” squares, and 2-1/2” strips) and it doesn’t make sense to me to mix prewashed fabrics with unwashed ones, so I again choose to simply skip the prewashing process.
Great, But I’d Feel Better If I Just Prewashed
I’d never tell you to ignore your gut. And if prewashing makes you feel better about quilting, you should definitely do it. No more sleepless nights for you! Here’s how to do it.
To test your fabric, cut a small swatch and lay it on top of some white muslin. Place this on a shallow plate and pour hot (not boiling) water over the swatch. When the water has cooled to room temperature, check the white fabric for color transfer.
To prewash fabrics, wash like colors in the same temperature you intend to wash the quilt, using the same detergent. For me that’s cold water with a bit of Clear All detergent. Most prewashers wash their fabric as soon as it arrives home. I think that’s brilliant because then they don’t have to guess what’s been prewashed and what hasn’t.
I Didn’t Prewash! What Should I Do?
I don’t prewash either, at least most of the time.
So when it’s time to wash my quilt, I wash on cold in the Delicate cycle and throw some Shout Color Catchers in the wash. Color Catchers are designed to grab up any loose dye particles in the wash and they are genius! Love em.
Something else to look out for is to avoid the soak. When fabrics are left for any time to soak as part of a wash cycle, that’s when color transfer will most often occur. So skip the soak and skip the worry!
