Reflecting on feedback I have now decided that my collection of imaginary friends are going to be an example of the psychology behind imaginary image.

Notes from 23/04/20 with Mark Jemima and Sueaung.
During today’s tutorial I spoke about my most effective pieces of primary and secondary research and I explained my ideas about how they were going to inform my final garment or costume design e.g. silhouette, colour and texture. We spoke mainly about what was missing and what I need to do to communicate my idea more clearly. Jemima and Sueaung both said that my samples looked “like sweats”. Which is not what I am trying to communicate.
Reflecting upon this feedback I know now that I really need to be a lot more specific about how i am representing the theme of imagination and imaginary friends.
I need to consider how other people engage with my work.
Be objective about what I am doing? If it’s not communicating what i am trying to show try something else.
Ask friends or family what they think of my samples. Ask different generations what they think – Ask children ages 3-7. What are their associations?
Create a character: Create a story bored where is my imaginary friend situated in its world?
Have a conversation with my imaginary friend somewhere.
Do I want this project to be about myself? Or is it an example of something?
Am I being my imaginary friend? Is this imaginary friend a projection of myself (like dreams with thoughts), if so which type of self? Be specific ALWAYS. How does the audience get what we are seeing?
Create a narrative for my imaginary friend.
“My imaginary friend is a projection of …. “ My past and current self-combined? Explore this.
STORY BOARD SITUATIONS
What am I sitting in when I see my imaginary friend? The garden? Under things? On a swing?
My imaginary world is visually a very stereotypically girly, cutie, pink world – Have a conversation with it somewhere.
Artist suggestions:
Tony Ousler
Lego land – massive miniature world.
Tom walker
If I deconstruct my childhood memorabilia and remake them in new ways, DON’T just reconstruct anatomy that I already know. Reconstruct everything, an imaginary friend colour be a bin with a hat on, try all sorts of things to make an imaginary friend and why does the hat symbolise something and the bin symbolise something else?
Where do i want the audience to be in my experience?
Try out more physical experimentation.
Think about materials more.
3D ideas on the body FRONY + BACK.
Video myself doing things
Scale
How I make this is really important:
When you were a kid and use to make things, everything was smaller (miniature) we feel more empowered when we see miniature things.
Small world.
Think of the scale of the things i am making.
Doesn’t have to be the normal scale that i am now.
Going back to places you used to go when you were younger always seem so much smaller – That disconnect with what I was.

How has my concept developed?
Since my last tutorial with Mark I have explored deep into my childhood world  “play”. I have learnt more about the significant elements within that world, for example the structures, textures and images that were important to me during this time. Since reflecting upon these elements I have gained back an imaginary image of what that world was like for me as a child. It has brought back memories of how I interacted and played with my world when I was a young girl. However, what is interesting to me is that now my feelings have completely changed towards it.

Brief summary of my concept:
Inspired by my childhood imaginary friend my concept is an investigation into imagination and existence; bringing the imaginary to life. My research began with questioning the power of imagination and how we as humans can imagine something we have never seen before, like an imaginary friend. My focus is lead predominantly by the fantasy world of my childhood, memories and the neuroscience of imagination.
