When Armand warn that a few of the coven members are ā€œunforgivingā€ over lies. Is it really that big of a deal that they lied about their maker? Or is more the fact that Lestat is their real maker and lied about it?
Itā€™s not even because they lied. Louis and Claudia, at this point, do not know that the coven already knows exactly who Lestat is and exactly what they did to him and that they lied about their maker.
Armand warned Louis of that in an effort to isolate Louis from the others and make it seem as if Armand was on his side and that Louis could trust him. It was as if to say ā€œSee? Look how helpful and forthcoming Iā€™m being. You can trust me, Louis. So tell me all about Lestat.ā€
Thatā€™s what ALL of this will boil down to. Armand is the mastermind. He likely already has Lestat locked in the dungeon. He already knows they tried to kill Lestat. He already knows Lestat made them. That is why Armand did not immediately ā€œclean upā€ and kill them as soon as they stepped foot in his territory in Paris and why Armand is even interested in Louis in the first place. Lestat made Louis. Louis is a link to Lestat.
Armand is obsessed with Lestat. Armand is desperately and unrequitedly in love with Lestat. Lestat, despite how Armand will spin it, ultimately rejected him. Armand carries that grudge (and burning torch of longing) with him all the way up to the last book in which he still holds that against Lestat.
From The Vampire Lestat:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All of that is not even accounting for the fact that Armand kidnapped Nicki, hurt and tortured Nicki, took Gabrielle and Lestat hostage, tried to use his mind powers on Lestat to coerce him into killing Gabrielle and Nicki, raped Lestat, cut off Nickiā€™s hands, and Nicki died while under Armandā€™s ā€œcare.ā€
Yes, Lestat loves Armand. Lestat also hates Armand and yes, as Sam said, Lestat would really prefer to just not have any dealings with Armand, because itā€™s too much history and expends too much of Lestatā€™s energy to deal with the complicated chaos that is Armand. You know those people in your life that you love, but also really dislike and would just rather not be around them? Thatā€™s Lesmandā€¦.from Lestatā€™s POV. ā€œOne cares more than the otherā€, and thatā€™s how itā€™s always been with them and why shit went down the way it did and why I adore their relationship. Itā€™s so messed up and complex and inexplicable on multiple levels, and itā€™s always been fun to see how down bad Armand is while Lestat is just ā€œeh.ā€

Ben Danielā€™s incredible performance as Santiago is especially amazing considering his husband of 31 years died this month from cancer. Ben shared on IG he had stopped all work to care for his husband before he died itā€™s just amazing when you watch how committed he was to IWTV.
Ben Daniels always is a delight to watch, and this performance is no exception - and truly incredible.
My heart truly breaks for him, I cannot quite imagine. šŸ˜– I hope he has lots of support from his family and friends :/

the thing about lestat and armand is that their relationship is literally incomprehensible. they are boy best friends they are codependent worsties they are archrivals they are platonic soulmates they are telepathic gossipers they are part time haters and full time ride or dies they are insane bisexuals but most importantly. they are toxic exes. despite the fact that they have never once dated. hope this helps

Lots of great moments in episode 2 but my favourite was when Louis is still trashing the plays in present days while Armand continues to defend their artistic merit... you just know that this argument has happened over and over again in the last 77 years

Armand's red flags in 2.02
You know how people kept accusing Lestat of isolating Louis from his family? And then Louis actually kept visiting his family, so if Lestat was isolating him, he did a really shit job of it?
Yeahhh. Armand shows us how it's really done.
Disclaimer: Armand is my favorite, precious boy, and I will defend his right to be as fucked-up as he damn well pleases, but he is indeed very fucked-up. So don't come at me accusing me of being biased in favor of Lestat (and even if I was, so what? this is Tumblr, not BBC News). I love Lestat, I love them all, but Armand is my trash son and if he isn't horrifically fucked-up on the show like he is in the books, it's a massive betrayal of the complexity of his character and the logical outcomes of his background. He hurts, and like any creature in pain, lashes out because of it. He knows how to do all kinds of diabolical shit, but he doesn't know how to be a person, and that's why I love him (trying to remember who the Youtuber was who said, "No one's a hero, everyone's a victim" about this series because they were so right).
First off, Assad is truly phenomenal at creating this effect:
Tumblr media
If you don't suspect Armand of the shit he's about to pull, it's not your fault. This is how he is. Part of it is real innocence, in a way, or perhaps an inverse of innocence--he doesn't realize this shit isn't normal.
So it's very striking to me how Armand laid the foundation for his relationship with Louis so subtly and early on. He approached Louis in the park while he was alone, Claudia nowhere to be seen even though his invitation was for her as well. Claudia would ask questions. Armand wants to dangle the carrot before any questions are fired off. By the time anyone in the coven actually speaks with Claudia, she is already sold on them all. There is no time for her to form suspicions. With Claudia on board, Armand has free access to Louis. She feels at home with the coven, so she's not watching Armand too closely.
Then at the Delacroix mansion, Armand warns Louis against the rest of the coven. He says "a few of" the coven members are unforgiving, though he doesn't say who, which would be useful information if Louis is to defend himself (spoiler alert: it's all of them), just tells Louis to close his mind to the others. So Claudia is with the rest of the coven, while Louis is available only to Armand. Armand does not give this warning to Claudia. The only person she can hear it from is Louis, who she won't believe. They're now spending time apart, weakening the link between them. Armand knows he can seduce the hell out of anyone he desires, and once he does that, all he really needs is to break the filament binding Louis to Claudia and he's got what he wants.
He also warns him not to contact Roget again, which is probably good advice, but what Armand knows that Louis doesn't is that Lestat is alive. And Roget is the one person in the world Lestat would be able to contact if he could. So in the unlikely event that Lestat gets the chance to call Roget, Louis will not hear of it.
In just a few sentences, Armand has managed to distance Louis from Claudia, Lestat, and everyone else in the coven.
And how does he do it? By making sense, basically, by preying on Louis' preexisting (and sensible) fears about the coven. It makes sense for Louis to be on his guard. But Armand has set it up so he appears to be "different" from the rest of the coven, the only one Louis can trust, while issuing vague warnings about everyone else. And while Armand in the book is a pretty hands-off leader with the TdV, don't think for one second he can't do anything to protect Louis and Claudia himself. Here, he's acting like he has no sway with these people. He does. No matter what he says, he does.
So yeah. I'm really impressed with how smart the writers are being about this so far.

The Armand and Lestat parallels are so interesting.
In 01 x 02, Lestat calls Louis fledgling to assert the power dynamics of their relationship. Louis rejects this overtly because of the similarity fledgling has to slave. Lestat does not relent and continues to remind Louis of his status as maker and de facto father.
"I put you on this earth." "I am your maker." Yet he still hides the extent of his powers to give the flimsy illusion that they are equals. It's like your boss pretending you're both equal beasties despite you both knowing the truth.
Armand's power as coven leader is undisputed. His position during the theater performance is on above everyone, the eye in the sky, observing everything below him. He is Maitre, the teacher (or master). Santiago for all his bravado defers heavily to him and backs down when Armand makes it clear he should. Even his aura radiates ancient power as Louis admitted.
Yet, he tells Louis "Call me Armand." And he tells him "You have dominated my mind." He does not hide his power from Louis, but brings him in with statements like that as if to say "I am so powerful, yet you have power over me, Louis. I am here to serve you." It is like a lion convincing a bunny it can hold its leash.

ā€œBoth of us are happy since you came here. Youā€™re very different from what I expected I never thought any human would make the difference you have.ā€

Daniel was a bundle of nerves and excitement as he entered the bar. He hoped that he would meet someone tonight. Sure, he would like to get laid like any young man his age, but it was more than that. He hoped to meet someone special. Someone who was interesting and different than all of the other lame assholes Daniel had ever met. He was desperate for a real story, something no one else could write. He hoped that this would be the night that lightning would strike and illuminate his life.
He wasnā€™t exactly sure who he was searching for until his gaze stumbled upon him. The first thing Daniel noticed about him was how breathtakingly gorgeous this man was. Daniel was pretty sure heā€™d never seen anyone this devastatingly beautiful before. And there was something about him. Maybe it was his aura if you believed in that sort of thing. He seemed to radiate this electric energy that drew Daniel in like a magnet. He didnā€™t know what it was yet, but he just had a feeling that that this guy was unique. His gut told him that this guy had a story to tell. So he approached him and tried his best to act confident and cool.
ā€œI mean, if something happens, Iā€™m cool,ā€ Daniel said. It was no secret to Daniel that a lot of queer people frequented this particular bar. Maybe heā€™d be extra lucky and heā€™d get a story as well as getting laid. Would someone so gorgeous and mysterious actually go for him though? ā€œBut I really want to interview you.ā€

They nodded. ā€œAlright letā€™s go it sounds like fun weā€™ll hunt quickly so we donā€™t miss it.ā€ Armand grinned at Daniel, ā€œwould you like to see me in a corset?ā€ He asked running his hands up his chest.
