We’re gonna say you got injured during a raid in this instance.

• Izzy’s at your side the second you hit the deck. His first response is complete rage. Whoever hurt you gets swiftly brutalised on the spot before they even realise what’s happening and their death is swift but certainly not painless. There’s no witty one-liner, no grand declaration of vengeance, just a scream of pain and a wet thud as they hit the floor.

• You’re vaguely aware of Izzy barking orders to the crew as he drags your bleeding body away. You don’t see the pure worry in his eyes every time he glances down to make sure he’s not dragging a corpse. When he finally gets you somewhere safe that worry turns to anger again.

• “You stupid prick! How the fuck have you managed that?!” He’s growling at you, but he’s also taking off his waistcoat to pillow your head and being as gentle as he can as he identifies and assesses your injuries. Once the initial adrenaline dies down, he softens just a bit and starts to reassure you that you’re going to be alright. He’s not sure if you are, the damage seems pretty bad, but he insists anyway. You have to be alright. You have to.

• “Alright, sweetheart, okay.. Sh- Just calm down and let me see. Just let me look, you’re gonna be fine. Stop whinging.”

• You can see the panic start to come over him when he realises just how bad it is. He turns and starts screaming for Ed and Roach and just about anyone else that he trusts to help you. Between each increasingly desperate cry he still hushes you and strokes back your blood-slicked hair and keeps pressure anywhere that’s bleeding. He also keeps telling you off occasionally. He can’t help it.

• The next bit’s a bit of a blur (you mostly remember pain as your body’s carried somewhere again and Izzy threatening to kill you if you dared fall asleep) but the next thing you know you’re on Roach’s table. He’s explaining to Izzy that you’ll need stitches and such but he’s not listening. “I don’t give a fuck what you need to do, just do it!” He growls, turning his attention back to you.

• Obviously things have to get much more painful before they can start to get better. Izzy gives you something to bite down on and tries his best to soothe you.. But of course that’s not his fortè. He gets Ed to help him hold you still and tells you over and over again that he knows it hurts and he’s sorry. He’s so fucking sorry. Eventually his voice cracks and tears spring to his eyes before he can stop it. Even through tears though, he dutifully holds your hand and keeps up his reassurances.

• Clichè, obviously, but of course he’s right there at your bedside when you wake up the next day. He’s got a very stern look on his face and grunts something like, “finally decided to join us, have you? Made a right mess of yourself..”

• He’s not fooling anyone. You remember him crying and Ed and Roach certainly won’t let him live down just how panicked he was over you. He’ll tell you to fuck off at every given opportunity but of course he nurses you back to health, even when you gently point out that that’s not his job and doesn’t have to.

• When you’re well enough to have him back in your bed he holds you like he’s scared you’ll break. He pets your hair so, so gently, kisses your forehead and finally admits how scared he was.

• “Don’t you ever fucking do that to me again, d’you hear me? You don’t die ‘til I say so.”

I'm sorry but his death didn't make sense and it felt really cruel. Like??? Idk man it feels pretty gross to have such a tortured character that starts to become his own person, accepts his queerness etc die. And I genuinely dont care about the argument of "oh but none of this went to waste".......sorry but. If you wanna kill off a tortured character at least don't fill him with so much hope before you do. It's kinda disgusting

There could be other ways to express how that last part of blackbeard "died" you know if the season wasn't rushed to hell. Yikes.

It would have made more sense if whenever Stede and Ed stayed on land, Izzy became the new captain of the Revenge. As a parallel to season 1, except this time he has the crew's trust and is ready to take on the position without Blackbeard. THAT is what they could have done with his character development instead of throwing it away for a cheap emotional scene. Like he could have still been gravely injured so he and Ed could have that heart to heart but actually killing him was just unnecessary

Anyone saying that Izzy’s death makes sense narratively is valid. From a writing standpoint I get it

Anyone saying that him being okay with dying or somehow suggesting that he ended his journey and that that’s okay needs to stop. Do you know how incredibly damaging it is to people’s mental health to hear that you think a queer, disabled man who went through so much growth and found happiness and friends “should” have wanted to die? Like holy fuck

The more hate I see the more I’m going to love OFMD. This show means so much to me. A show of pretty much all queer pirates written primarily by queer people is not something I thought I’d ever get to see. To see middle aged people first discovering their queerness on TV is incredible. I see myself in Ed, Izzy, Stede, Jim, Zheng, so many of the characters. I wish we could have had stuff like this on TV when I was a kid/young adult, but even watching it now has helped me a lot with recognizing I am genderqueer.

Trying to pretend any part of this show is homophobic or being shown in a cis het lens is a joke. This is a show about queer people made by primarily queer people, and just because it doesn’t fully match your queer journey doesn’t mean that’s the case for everyone. You don’t have to get or relate to everything in the show, that doesn’t mean no one else will. It is NOT a bury your gays trope when literally everyone in the show is gay. You can dislike a show or a plot point or a character without calling everything homophobic.

Grow the fuck up honestly.

He gets really upset when he loses his leg and realises he can’t really get up there anymore. He almost cries when you set up blankets, cushions and candles on the bowsprit and tell him you can just continue your dates there because you missed them 🥰

HC Izzy will not leave your bedside if you’re sick. It gets to the point where he will deny his own comforts taking care of you. The crew will have to drag him away in order to get him to rest. He would definitely read to you if you’re sick. His voice is very calming.

If it’s Izzy that sick you completely dote on him. Izzy is not used to showing weakness but if he’s close enough to you he’ll let you in. Every once in a while you’ll bring him tea or food to keep his strength up. Mostly you force him to rest and take over his duties as first mate and keep the captains from bothering him.

No I’m sorry I’m so angry with all the people on their high horse saying “if you’re disappointed with the finale then you weren’t following the actual narrative and don’t deserve the show”

I know that that thing makes sense. I know that it was leading up to it and would have made a nice full circles, I get it.

But for it to happen like that? For Ed and Stede to not have a single full conversation about anything the whole episode? For Ed to pick up his leathers ONE EPISODE after he abandoned them?

How is the Inn any different to their other whims? How?

What would be the point in Season 3? They become pirates again? That surely undoes the character development Ed went though, no? Or we have the exact same conflict we had this season of Stede wanting to be a pirate and Ed not wanting that. So what would be the point???
