i have sort of mixed feelings about ted jamie to forgive his dad as someone who was abused by their dad and has mostly forgiven him but here they are,
sometimes forgiven is the best thing you can do for yourself. holding all the anger and hurt you experienced at the hands of another person can seriously weigh on you and even if you just decide in your own head you can allow yourself to move on, even if you never tell the other person.
at the same time it can be hard after you do that because you will still be angry and hurt at time, it never really stops (especially if the person doesn’t really try to change which i think james is, or doesn’t seek forgiveness) and you don’t have to not feel that way even after you forgive someone.
forgiveness is not one size fits all. forgiveness doesn’t mean jamie and his dad are going to be best friends, but maybe they’ll have some sort of amicable relationship. i personally went from not speaking to my dad at all to just talking about some of our common interests, and i like that.
that being said, i don’t think it was ted’s place to tell jamie that he should forgive his dad, especially after seeing how james has acted towards jamie.

like people don’t understand how much of a culture reset lipstick by jedward was… the visuals, the outfits, the hair, them throwing themselves around the stage, the song, the awful audio mixing, them being fucking twins… all before ireland had legalised gay marriage. we as a society weren’t ready.

For those not aware, Sam’s plot line this episode was obviously inspired by Lebron James;

Multiple things exist at once. It's pretty poor media literacy to think that the show wasn't paralleling the Man City scene and wanting the audience to compare the two. That literally was PART of the point of it and staging the scene there and also making sure to have Ted's reaction. It most definitely was in the literal script that Jamie's expression and him seeing that was also about his dad. People have no reason to feel guilty about picking up on that when we were meant to. Grow up.
the parallel is there but it’s the only thing that people are focusing on or at least the only thing i’ve seen people focusing on. obviously multiple things exist at once but what we choose to focus on is very important.
racism in sport is a massive issue and when that’s represented on screen we shouldn’t focus on a white character.
i’m not denying that a parallel was being drawn or that people should feel guilty for pointing it out but there’s a more important message that should be focused on in this episode. what sam was talking about in the changing room has been happening to black football players in real life.
when marcus rashford, jadon sancho and bukayo saka missed their penalties in the 2020 euros they received racist abuse online and in real life, such as a mural of rashford being defaced. and that’s just one time that has happened and it’s certainly not the only one. ex-england player gary neville said “When we get racist abuse after a football match at the end of a tournament, I expect it … I knew as soon as Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka missed last night, I knew we would be waking up this morning to stories of racist abuse”. this is an extremely pervasive issue.
it’s important to engage with the topics with critical thought and with grace and compassion. they shouldn’t be ignored or detracted from.
peace and love.

The 'hyperspecific situations' polls are really once again highlighting that native English speakers tend to forget that 'foreign' doesn't mean 'non-English' or 'non-American'
"Did you watch a foreign language movie in the past three days?" Yeah I watched the foreign movie "The Martian" with foreign actor Matt Damon
