In this photograph, a young girl is posing with a brownish orange leaf over her eye.  The leaf has a tear in the middle of it, which is where her eye is shown.  I’m thinking she’s around fourteen years old based off the style of clothes she’s wearing.  This photograph gives off the impression that she’s probably been playing around in the leafs and is having fun.  I can determine this from seeing a forest-type background with what looks like a pile of leafs on the bottom right.  Also, I can assume she’s having fun because she’s in the midst of grinning.  The one thing that really stood out to me is that there’s a brown theme, like with the leaf, sweatshirt tie-dye, and background.

Based on all of Alexis’s shown features, it’ll make the audience interpret that she’s holding and fanning out a bouquet of flowers across her face.  In this photograph, there’s a woman’s face, with blonde hair and blue eyes, holding flowers.  In the background, it gives off the impression that there’s a forest surrounding her.  Based off these clues,  the audience can assume she’s standing in a forest preserve.  The surroundings create a feeling of mystery since forests are usually known for hiding something or hold something unexpected within it.  The weather is sunny and the direction of the light is facing her.  The soft lighting creates a sort of warm-toned, comforting atmosphere.

This photograph presents a young woman that seems to be in her early twenties.  Her facial expression projects that is she is nor happy or sad, but instead has a look of suspense or anger.  Because her eyebrows are raised and her face reads that she’s either “totally over it”or is “hiding something” this provides evidence to support how she might be feeling toward someone or something.  The surroundings and the field of long grass/prairie in the background could possibly tell a story that she is walking upon a hill and away from somebody frustrating her.  What I personally like about this photo is that the bricked bridge makes it look more of an urban environment and the grass makes it seem rural.  She’s wearing a cream colored sweater dress, some dainty ear piercings, red lipstick, and has thick blonde hair falling behind her.  Most of her body’s posture is cropped out, but from what you could see, she has an upright stance with her head turning over her shoulder.

I decided to photograph my 21-year old sister, Alexis, for this assignment for a number of reasons.  She not only has a good sense of style, but also has always been the most photogenic family member.  I think she’s just full of potential which helps to improve the quality of the photos and portray emotion to the audience.  I took the photograph in this particular setting since it really gave off a “fall vibe” from the color combinations and brick wall in the background, with a set of metal, tarnished stairs.  I gave her directions to hold onto a part of the stairs and lean against it to make it appear to look like she’s been waiting for someone/ something to happen.

Two of the most emphasized elements in this photo are the lines and the value.  I find the direction of all the trees and stump to be very unique since the angles  all the branches are facing, match the incline of the stairs.  The placement of the two trees on the left and right of the stump, do a good job of framing the main focus, to help it stand out.  Also the lines from the trees have a lot of thickness and have a much darker outline compared to the stairs quality.  As for the value, the foreground of this photo has a light value.  The background is where the value shifts into a darker tone.  This photo has a high-level contrast.

There’s a wooden bridge pointing straight through the trees/forest.  The path beyond the bridge also narrows and turns slightly to the left, which creates more distance in this photo.  A regular tree is tilting inward toward the center, and on the right side, a willow tree’s long branches are draped over the top of the bridge, casting a shadow.

I went to Caldwell Preserves for most of these landscape photos.  I chose this place because it has a wide range of land and has varieties of nature-type scenery.  The one thing special about this place is that my dad recommended it after describing this photoshoot to him.  He informed me that there were a lot of different sections of the forest that would be cool to shoot different perspectives from.  I shot these pictures around 11:00am and the weather this day was pretty gloomy, cloudy, and rainy.  The light affected the landscape by hitting with light only at the bottom of the stairs, where there aren’t any shadows of trees hovered over.

In order to make my ordinary everyday object extraordinary/ creative, I placed my object (the jeans) in both typical and unusual spots at the forest preserve.  I also adjusted the jeans to look as odd as possible to make it look like as if it’s going on an adventure and are doing things a human would. One key thing I learned from this assignment is that changing my angle of view has a bigger impact than I would expect.

The two most obvious formal elements visible in this photograph are the ‘colors’ and the ‘shapes’.  There’s a huge variety of colors present within this photograph.  The leafs have a light neon green and dark green colors, while the light blue denim jeans are different shades of blue based off of the shadows and sunlight that project.  The color that stood out to me the most were the bright red letters on the sign.  The shapes visible in this photograph are a lot of circles (the button, the metal bolts, and the dark green stand for the sign) and lines that create rectangles or square type shaping.  Overall I think there’s more geometric shapes, than organic ones.

“Golfer” (1937) by Harold Edgerton
In my opinion, this photograph’s about the true meaning of capturing a sudden action in fast movement.  I think it holds a lot of significance with the sport of golf too.  The photo presents every movement a golfer takes in order to get the perfect swing.

“Bullet Through Apple” (1964) by Harold Edgerton
This photograph here is of a bullet frozen in time.  The repeatable flash allowed for the camera to capture the split-second event.

Harold Edgerton was famous for creating high-speed photography techniques that he applied to scientific uses.  He invented the “strobe light” in 1931.  The strobe light was a repeatable short-duration electronic flash that revealed motion in segments never before seen.

In order to make the sewer look more creative, I placed a couple of different colored leafs to give it more of a “fall” feel.  I learned from this assignment that the smallest changes could make the biggest difference for ordinary objects such as the drain

In this assignment, it was required to take up to 25 photos all of the same drain/ sewer.  Though, every picture will look different since the point of view, timing, distance, and arrangement of objects differ.  Even after photographing this ordinary every day object, I discovered that the angle photos are taken could make the object’s details more drawn to.  I went about making this ordinary drain to look extraordinary by really focusing on the texture and the words imprinted.

Bad photo
I consider this to be a bad photo since there’s no focal point and everything’s out of focus/ blurry.  Although I do like the pop of various colors.  In class, it was disagreed that this was a bad photo, instead it’s cool because it showcases the concert experience.
