i've looked through all the lily orchard "proof" and honestly like. almost none of it holds up. the screenshots with no names or faces especially.

now i'm willing to have respectful discussions and look over some of the proof again, but what i've seen so far has not convinced me. oh, she's... a little rude sometimes? that's all i've really concluded.

i know there's no reasonable way courtney would have any sort of proof of what lily (allegedly) did. it is courtney's word vs. lily's. we literally have a he-said-she-said here.

and watching lily's video. honestly. i am more inclined to believe her, but that's cause i'm the "pics or it didn't happen" type of person. i need proof.

i'm gonna reiterate this cause i know you're all coming with your pitchforks now:

i know that there is no reasonable way for courtney to have proof.

i'm not gonna give anyone who just yells at me or insults me any attention. i want to have a respectful discussion. i want to know why the "proof" is... well, proof of anything. i want to hear your takes. i am open to having my mind changed. i want to know why you think the way you do, because looking at this logically... there's nothing here.

i don’t think dot and bubble was trying to do both “phone bad” commentary and race commentary. i don’t think it was trying to do “phone bad” commentary at all. the episode wore the veneer of a mediocre black mirror clone to lull the viewer into expecting something predictable and bland—haha they can’t walk without their phones! mid-tier episode but good enough—and then it hits you with the fucking gut punch of that ending, and the Why of the episode falls into place.

i almost wonder if the real “phone bad” commentary has to do with the experiences of people of color in fandom, where they’re having fun with the story and feel a sense of belonging and then boom. they realize that there are racist people and ideas in a situation that previously felt predictable and safe. i’ve heard princess weekes discuss that experience before, and she even made a video essay about martha jones in doctor who. and of course that experience goes far beyond fandom, in much more serious ways, but it’s the technology stuff that made me think of it specifically. and now that i think of it, there are hints dropped about those much more serious ways in the episode—something about a very modern-day-esque police institution existing in this far-off future utopia, and the way lindy called for them, had already rubbed me the wrong way.

maybe this episode was rtd’s attempt to grapple with the ways he failed martha jones and mickey smith in his original run. acknowledging that an adventure can be destroyed in a second, with the realization that everyone else on the adventure sees you as less worthy than your white counterparts. ncuti performs the doctor’s realization and reaction extremely well. i’m glad that this episode exists.

i’m going to rewatch this immediately, i think. please feel free to add your thoughts.

Just finished episode 5 of the 15th Doctor's season and man is RTD not pulling any fucking punches. Episode 1? Pro-lifers stop caring about babies the second their born and refugees having to get to somewhere to seek refuge themselves is wrong. Episode 3? The military industrial complex cares more about maintaining war to sell arms than people's lives. And episode 5? People ignore problems in society until it affects them directly. And that last fucking scene where it's revealed everyone is racist hit me so hard. The doctors frustrated shouts about being able to save them while they all turn their backs on him. Brilliant.

Remember 4 months ago when the CEO of this platform harassed and chased a trans woman off this website just for posting her transition timeline, then chased her to other social media platforms to continue harassing her, and threatened to call the FBI if she continued disputing the multiple dubious terminations of her blogs that did not violate tumblr's terms of service in any way? And despite tumblr staff insisting that the CEO was acting against their interests, the broad transmisogyny evident in the site's culture and moderation policy has still not been adequately addressed?

“See results” button in a tumblr poll isn’t going to skew the results, and I think more people need to know this.

“See results” button is there so that people who don’t feel comfortable voting for whatever reason can still be able to participate in the poll.

Actually, a poll without a see results button tends to have its results skewed more than a poll with one, because once people don’t want to vote but want to see the results and there’s no “see results” button, more often than not, they will literally just vote anything their finger lands on. Just to see these results. They might as well close their eyes while voting just for the hell of it. And that’s how your results actually got skewed.

“But see results button fucks up the percentage of the poll” ummm, no, it doesn’t. Really. All you have to do is pretend that “see results” doesn’t exist and look at the percentages of the rest of the answer choices. It just won’t be a hundred percent when you combine them together, but it still works just the same.

For instance, and I’m very bad at math, when a poll asks “Do you like cookies or pancakes”

30% votes cookies

20% votes pancakes

50% votes see results

You can still know that people tend to like cookies more than they do pancakes. Just pretend that 50% of the see results does not exist. And there you go. And if you’re better at math than I am or if you’re not as lazy as I am, you can even do your own more thorough calculations to completely dismiss that 50% of the see results if you really want the rest of the numbers to be a hundred percent while combined together.

That “see results” you often see isn’t just there to skew the results, guys. It’s actually there to make sure the results aren’t skewed.
