Suren Manvelyan -
Suren posted an extreme eye macro project named "Your Beautiful Eyes" showcasing the diversity of the eye structure, relief, and color on his Behance portfolio back in 2010.
This time Suren decided to take pictures of animal eyes. For this he had to make his setup more advanced and portable. With a human eye you can ask the person to stay still but it is a totally another story with animals.

Indirect viewing. Capturing landscapes or views within the human eye. It addresses the differences between what we see and what the camera captures. It addresses the difference between our visual apparatus – our eyes and brain – and the camera’s image-capture apparatus – the lens, filters, camera, film or sensor- apparatus (from now on referred to as “the camera”). The differences between the two are not only notable, they are also damaging to the reality we see because the camera introduces numerous changes to this reality. Capturing this change has been very challenging, during next semester I will experiment on a deeper level challenging the human eye to directly see through someone else’s.

For PC1 I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to work in a primary school or high school, taking on the challenge I have applied to work in both. Selecting a primary school I had personally came from and a high school I’m not familiar with. Within both these schools I have researched into their personal cirriclums and will adapt to their teaching requirements. With the primary school I can use more experimentation to help expand and explore the children’s creativity with a variety of workshops. However, with the high school I plan on adapting into their current studies and subjects overshadowing the classes. If accepted, I will propose a after school workshop for both environments.

working bigger!
Working on a larger scale which was a sheet of wood i had got from the wood workshop on level one. Working bigger i was able to paint faster. Slightly drifting away from the pupil being in the centre of the image i was able to gain a longer landscape within the photograph, also capturing the contact lenses gave an extra personal feature to my work. This photograph was also taken at around 3pm where the variety of colours was at its highest.

Experimenting with the day!
I have started to experiment with the light, photographing different times of the day in different positions in my house. The first image was taken around 11am with grey skies. Moving on from the day i was able to capture the second and third image at around 7pm where the sky was particularly bright with the moon and also the shadow of my cat sat on the window sill.

screen printing
I had continued to attend the screen printing workshop to experiment this time with colour. Using the same two silk screens i had layered pink and blue to see what it could produce. This had created a different view of the image using colour but i preferred using darker tones such as black and grey as it gave more emotion to the image, less distracting.
Creating more than 40 prints, i have experimented with weaving, hand sewing, painting onto and water colouring the images.
The top screen print i have also used three colours, pink, blue and black, when printing the black i had flipped the image to the eye lashes where doubled but mainly attempting to add more detail into the iris and pupil.

Screen printing!
I had recently attended a refresher workshop on screen printing with John in Level 4 which i throughly enjoyed. Screen printing was a form of printing i wasn't familiar or confident with. I decided to have a one to one with Michelle with working on photoshop in order to prepare my image ready to screen print. The first stage was to decide how i wanted my image to be displayed. I had taken two images of eyes, becky’s and mine. Enlarging becky’s eye and cropping the pupil out making the background piece to my print. I had then taken my eye and placed the pupil over the deleted pupil of beck's, emerging the images together it had taken away the focal point of around the eye and more onto the detail of the iris and pupil. With this, i had the image bit mapped and this was ready to be printed onto a clear sheet ready to be printed using a light box, emulsion and a silk screen.
These images contain a variety of printed layers, one with just one black layer, one a grey layer added on top a black layer - using two silk screen processes. As i hadn't had much experience with screen printing, many of the images i had produced were totally different this was because i hadn't given an even force when pressing the paint down over the silk screen. I think it had worked in my favour as i had learnt the image i wanted to produce which was giving more force when printing, this would created a clearer image which was less blurred.

Another painting of capturing a scene within the pupil/iris. Throughout these experiments i have realised i am taking far too long on one particular piece especially with trying to gain and detail which is frustrating, although i also realised if i wanted to gain more detail i would have to capture these images with it being a bright day! I will continue to experiment however, another form of art may be necessary in producing quicker experiments. The colour of this painting is off especially from the skin tone and details within the pupil/iris but i have enjoyed creating a different scene within the fragment of the eye.

Acrylic on A2
I have experimented with reproducing this image of Becky’s eye using acrylic. This was very time consuming and i have learnt through the process of this painting i had taken a lot of time concentrating on the detail of the eye rather than the skin, eyelashes and added background. Trying to perfect the pupil and iris was my main concern and i had quickly painted the rest in order for it to look ‘finished’. I will continue to explore my fascination on the pupil and iris with more experiments.

For my current brief, i have decided to look into the fragments of the face, particularly the eye. The eye fascinates me as it enables you to capture moments and memories and also match with what you hear. My vision isn't perfect, i have to wear either contact lenses everyday or glasses in order for my vision not to be blurred. From this i believe i appreciate my vision more than anything on my body. I am particularly interested in what you can capture through photographing the eye - landscapes. I had first captured the reflection of the sunset in Becky’s eye, i will reproduce this photograph into a painting.
