long time friend

yunho knew for years that he had feelings for you but instead of saying it, he’d show it through actions: buying your favorite snacks when he stopped by the convenience store, always carrying an extra jacket or blanket for when you get cold, keeping a running list of your takeout/drive-through orders. it was his way of being the partner he couldn’t bring himself to admit he wanted to be.

the initial confession didn’t go as planned, an issue coming up that ended in you needing to leave asap. so when the opportunity came up again, yunho wasn’t exactly prepared but wouldn’t let it pass him up another time. the two of you had just finished an eventful day of running errands. the sun had already set and a few miscellaneous stars peeked out from behind the clouds. yunho pulled into your driveway and put the car in park. you could sense he had something on his mind by how silent he’d gotten. when you questioned him, he turned in his seat to look straight at you.

“y/n, i don’t know if there will ever be a right time to say this, but i can’t keep being friends with you.. just friends, that is.”

someone new

again, emotional intelligence is a strong suit of yunho’s. he’s well aware of that initial spark when meeting a new face and can’t help himself from falling. sometimes a bit too quick. he met you while you were working at a floral shop on the weekends — yes, just like the cliché movies. he had initially stopped by to pick up a small gift for his mother but ended up getting your number along with it. you were giddy as could be when he texted you, asking you to meet him at the cafe down the street after your shift.

you both sat for hours, getting to know and surprising each other by how much you had in common. gasps and laughs echoed from your table. it was easy talking to yunho and you liked that. he made you feel comfortable even after only knowing him for a short period of time. yunho felt the same exact way for you.

yunho’s confession was no shock. it was about three, official, dates in that he found himself admitting his feelings and intentions. you held his hand tightly as the two of you walked down a busy sidewalk of seoul, listening intently to every word he spoke. you came up upon the shop you’d met at, an array of flowers set out on display. yunho picked a singular rose from the bucket, doing a dramatic twirl then kneeling before your feet.

“a beautiful flower for an even more beautiful person.”

long time friend

if you’re someone hongjoong has known for quite some time, it honestly might take a little for him to realize you mean more to him than just a friend. for so long, you were the person he relied on for their (often, brutal) honesty, the one he turned to in time of need or comfort, and the friend he so desperately didn’t want to lose. he’d keep this revelation to himself until it became unbearable and he was forced to confess before he absolutely lost his mind.

confessing was sort of a spur of the moment type thing. he was sprawled out on your bed, head turned to the side and sulking as he watched you get ready for a dinner date. his multiple, failed attempts at getting you to cancel on this person left him with high anxiety. what if the date went super well? what if you ended up really liking them? what if you entered a serious relationship and decided to run off, get married, and have a family? what if he never got to be that person for you?

“y/n, please don’t go.” he’d sit on the edge of the bed, looking up at you with pitiful eyes. “there’s something i’ve been wanting to tell you and it has to be right now.”

someone new

hongjoong feels emotions deeply. it’s just a matter of whether or not he’ll accept them right away. when he saw you at a local film developing shop, he had never believed in love at first sight until then. there was something about the way you carried yourself and spoke with such genuine kindness that pulled him in. he’d admire from a distance for a while before managing to stop you on your way out.

you’d be lying if you said you hadn’t also noticed hongjoong right away and felt intrigued. the two of you talked over the phone for a good while before meeting for a proper date. that date turned into a second, then a third, and so on. all casual but still meaningful. you had learned a lot about each other in such a short amount of time; one of those being that he was super into music.

being as smitten for you as he was, his confession was beyond cheesy yet so precious. one night, while the two of you were sitting at the kitchen table doing your own little things, an unfamiliar song began to play. you were too engrossed in your own work to pay close enough attention until the lyrics started to sound oddly specific. then it took you a second to recognize the voice. it was hongjoong’s. the song was for you.

“would you believe me if i said i’ve been working on this since the day i met you?”
