Minecraft SMP Announcement
Are you a fan of the Traffic Series looking for your next great adventure in our beloved game? Look no further!
The Ruby SMP has just started its third season! Now set on 1.20.1, this vanilla survival server is a great place for players who are 18+ and fans of the series to play the game and make some friends along the way! The server is always open, so it’s never too late to join, and all you need to know in order to do so is read this little post.
(If you’d like a short version, scroll to the bottom for a TL;DR. To avoid disappointment in advance, the server is for those 18+ ONLY!)
How do I join?
To join the Ruby SMP, you must first join the Last Life For Fans (LLFF) Discord. Here, you’ll find a bunch of channels relating to the series itself, the series we run for fans, and the Ruby SMP. It’s a great place to chat, and there are often other fan servers (i.e. Origins, Afterlife) popping up within it to play on!
From there, you’ll find all you need to know about the Ruby SMP listed under its category, along with the whitelist to sign yourself up, and then you’re free to play!
Please note, you must be 18+ both to join the LLFF Discord and the Ruby SMP itself.

Is the server vanilla?
The server is mostly vanilla, with the exception of a few tweaks similar to the ones you’d see in Hermitcraft. Several of these are just to make the game a bit kinder (i.e. universal dyeing, mini blocks, graves - full list in welcome doc). Ruby SMP also uses the voice mod, which you will need to install upon playing, and has an optional elytra trim mod (there is a very handy guide to this in the welcome doc when you join the Discord!).
Other than that, it’s very much vanilla! It is also worth mentioning that the server is on hard mode.
Do you have to be a content creator to join?
Not at all! Recording and streaming is allowed and encouraged, but is definitely not a requirement at all. The server does have a plugin that allows you to let others online know when you are streaming or recording, so just be sure to use that so people know what you’re up to!
There’s also a ‘promotions’ channel in the Discord for you to advertise any channels you’d like to!
Is there roleplay on the server?
Some people on the server do partake in roleplay to some degree, but it is absolutely not a requirement! It is great fun (I’m biased), and I can guarantee that you will always find someone who is willing to RP with you. But, if you prefer not to, there’s also plenty who don’t RP to hang out with as well.
There’s not really any specific rules on RP for the server generally, but just make sure to discuss any personal boundaries and rules with those you RP with and contact the mods if there are any serious issues.
What are the server rules?
The rules are quite straightforward and can be found in full on the welcome doc, but most importantly;
1. Treat everyone with respect - no discrimination or disrespect will be tolerated.
2. No villagers/farms in spawn chunks. Keep laggy farms contained to industrial areas where they won’t be constantly loaded.
3. Make sure everyone is on the same page when PVPing - stop means stop.
4. Keep lag pranks to a minimum and ensure everyone involved is okay with being pranked. Be willing to clean up the messes you cause!
5. No griefing.
Is it okay to join late?
Absolutely! I know that joining late can be incredibly daunting, and even joining during the third round of the server can be intimidating, but everyone on the server is very friendly and people will be more than willing to adopt you as a friend and let you live with them until you find your feet (or forever, in a lot of cases).
There is no deadline or anything on joining the LLFF Discord or the Ruby SMP, so take your time and join when you want! It is worth mentioning that as of writing this, the SMP only reset less than 24hrs ago, so now is an ideal time if you do want to get in early!
Is there any expectation of playtime?
Not at all! You are welcome to play as little or as much as you like, build as much or as little as you want, get as rich or as poor as you desire. It is entirely up to you! Everyone’s free time differs, especially with it being an 18+ server, so do not worry if you have barely any time or all the time in the world, people are very accommodating!
So far, the server has reset with each major update (1.18, 1.19, 1.20), so the duration of the server will likely be until whenever the next update comes along!
Who runs the server?
The discord moderators run the server! They all have administrator access on it, in case you need help with something.
Final notes - What to expect?
Ultimately, you will find that the Ruby SMP is a very mixed bag of players - from grinders to builders, roleplayers to casual players, there is a place for everyone so long as you are 18+, friendly and enjoy the game!

TL;DR
- You must be 18+ to join the server.
- You must join the LLFF Discord first, where you will find all the information for Ruby SMP and the category dedicated to it in the server.
- It is mostly vanilla, the exception being some tweaks (crafting recipes, graves, mini blocks etc.). It is on hard mode.
- The server uses voice mod which you can find a guide to install upon joining.
- Streaming/recording is allowed, but not necessary. Same goes for roleplaying.
- Server rules; no discrimination/disrespect, keep laggy farms contained to industrial areas, consent is key during PVP and pranks + no griefing!
- Joining late is fine! The servers always open and the players are very friendly and welcoming.
- You can play as much or as little as you like! The server usually resets with each major update.

Season 2 & Discord!
Hi, it's been awhile!
We're still alive and active, in fact, we recently wrapped up and finished the 1st season of Last Life: For Fans (LLFF).
With over 15 play sessions, and 13 amazing players, it was a real blast to see the fun, chaos and new friendships unfold over these past few months.
If you've followed us since the beginning of this account, you may remember we weren't sure if we would host another season, but with a lovely community and moderation team now established, we'd love to continue onto a 2nd Season with new players and renewed mechanics!
If you're just now finding this account & post, welcome! :)
Last Life: For Fans (LLFF) was started in November 2021 as a small passion project to unite older fans of 3rd Life and Last Life together to play in their own version of the SMP series.
With over 150 applications the week of launching, and a large interest growing, a community discord was created. We now have over 100 members, and host a couple community run modded and vanilla survival servers.

LLFF Participant List
It has been a wild and long few weeks, but I am excited to finally let everyone know…!
All 20 players have been officially chosen for the Last Life: For Fans server!
It was extremely challenging to select applicants, but it was an amazing experience to talk to so many passionate fans and community members. I’m grateful to even be in this position, and I can’t thank everyone enough for making this community what it is and continues to grow into. :)
I recommend joining the Discord if you’re interested in spectating the LLFF server when it begins (late January) or want to join in on the shenanigans on Ruby’s 1.18 SMP - I heard there’s mobs, elections, something or other called PanoshCoin™️, and a talking pit? I can’t wait to hear more from the trios, friendships, and alliances that have formed there!

Update 3.0
All 21 (and a couple more) applicants have been contacted on Discord and/or Tumblr.
I’m heartbroken that I can’t accept everyone, but thank you so much to everyone that applied and poured their support and passion into this project! It has not been an easy decision at all, and I’m grateful I’m in such an awesome community that it's even hard to narrow down in the first place. It really shows that there are some amazing folks here that really make this fandom special.

UPDATE 2.0
Hi again everyone,
Thank you for your patience this week! :)
I am officially done reading through all 157 applications for the Last Life: For Fans Minecraft server.
It’s been an absolute pleasure to read such passionate and great responses on applications, and again, I want to thank everyone, from the bottom of my heart, who took the time out of their day to support this project by sharing or applying to this (what felt like a) dream project of mine.
I’ve been absolutely blown away by the kind words and warm welcome into the community, and I can only hope that this is the start of a space for mature and fun experiences for fans of the Last Life series and Minecraft. (I also want to note that the Discord community has already been incredible, and I can’t thank folks enough for joining and engaging in the online space there!)
With that said, I have made a difficult decision regarding the application process.
After much deliberation and thought, I will be meeting with my top 21 candidates in a “mock-interview” style voice-call on Discord to gauge applicants' personalities and character, better than the application could.
These 21 applicants really caught my eye, and I would love to learn more about them, before officially asking them to join the LLFF Minecraft server.
Already 4 members of the Minecraft server have been chosen (counting myself), and as much as I would like to invite all 21 applicants, I believe it’s best to limit the size of the server to 20 (at max), as it’s already pushing the limit of what I can manage - in terms of scheduling, team builders, and more.
The 21 applicants will be contacted by me on Discord starting tomorrow (November 21st) at 9 AM PST and will be asked to schedule a time to meet with me between the days of November 29th - December 5th, 2021 (this is to avoid conflicts of holidays this upcoming week, like Thanksgiving and my own life schedule).
The final and full list of accepted applicants will be announced on Discord and Tumblr once all members are officially confirmed, which I am estimating will be around the week of December 6th, 2021.
I apologize for this change, it was something I wasn’t anticipating, along with the amount of applications that were received in general - but these 21 applicants were too good to dismiss or weigh against one another without fully meeting them. If you have questions or concerns, please let me know in the inbox or DMs, and I’ll do my best to answer them.
And before I sign off, I want to give a huge shoutout to my IRL friends (both of which are unassociated with the Last Life series and Tumblr fandom, but were great aids in supporting me both emotionally and logically during this process) - I would not have gotten through all the applications without their support. Big thanks too, to the Discord Mod Team, for helping me manage the popularity of the Discord server and being so willing to help! It’s incredibly heartwarming and I’m so grateful for their support! Will there be an rp aspect to the session like third life had or will it be more casual like last life? or is it up to debate with the players?
Great question! :D
This will be up to the group to decide how involved they want the roleplay elements to be. Again, it's all about having a fun and good time, so that might mean leaning away or toward those elements if the group wants that. :)

UPDATE 1.0
Hi everyone!
I wanted to update ya’ll and let you know that applications are still being looked through and narrowed down. There have been so many awesome applications, and again, I want to say thank you so much to all that applied! I also would like to use this as an opportunity to answer more asks/questions that I haven’t been able to get to as of late.
Are the sessions going to be recorded and/or posted on YouTube? If so, are they going to be recorded by each individual or by spectators?
As mentioned in this post, I discourage content creation of the LLFF server as it’s almost a direct replica of the original Last Life SMP. I also think the focus is to bring the community together and have fun, rather than for any sort of monetary or popularity gain. However, as mentioned in this post, we’ll possibly have chances to stream the sessions through the Discord community so others may watch/spectate.
Can participants curse/swear? How family friendly will the server be?
I believe it best to keep swearing and NSFW topics to a minimum - once or twice, that’s fine, but excessive use of language may not be tolerated. This goes for both the Discord and Minecraft server. (There will be more information on this in the Discord.)
How many people applied?
156 people applied for LLFF across Tumblr and Twitter! :)
When will your pick for the server be announced?
This may take until the end of November - more information will be released once I have a better grasp on the rest of the applicants.
Is the Discord server ready yet?
We’re not quite there, but very close! I still think we’ll be able to open it up this week - keep an eye out! :D

I’m proud to announce I’m opening a Last Life server for fans!
Last Life: For Fans, or LLFF for short, will follow the same premise as the original server. It will implement the random lives system, the boogeyman mechanics, and /givelife commands.
I am looking for 10-20 applicants, 18 years or older, preferably North American residents (due to server ping), with a Minecraft: Java Edition account to join the server.

Would we be able to skip some weeks if necessary? I assume a lot of us will be busy and stressed during finals including me so I don't want to apply if I need to be available every week if that makes sense?
Great question! :D
This is a valid concern and I really like what you suggested, since many folks who applied may be a student too - I think that's something we'll discuss as a group, but I am definitely on board with that idea or incorporating it somehow, especially as we get closer to the holiday season.

I have an idea that might help people in the planned discord to get in on the action, rather than letting everyone in to spectate as that will impact performance, have a single "cameraman" (or maybe a couple) who are in spectator who stream it, either in the discord itself or on another platform.

That's actually a fantastic idea! I think we'll have to talk to everyone about it (selected applicants and community), but I'm really loving this suggestion, so I'll be looking into it more.
Also, in exciting, somewhat related news - the accepted Discord Mods have all been contacted!
Thank you to everyone that took time out of their day to apply! It was seriously heartwarming to see that folks wanted to help create a discord community and generally help me out. I'm sad I couldn't accept everyone, but I really appreciate the time and thought ya'll put into it!
We're getting closer to opening the server up though! :) I'll let everyone know in an official post later this month.
