I kinda absolutely love the way how when it comes to dealing with a man who kidnapped them and used&abused them and their siblings since they were kids, Natasha's way is blowing the man up and Loki's like "congratulations for winning our game "who's going to a retirement home""-

remember when captain america said he wasn't dating because "it's kinda hard to find someone with shared life experience" and then later in the movie they revived his best friend and silly rabbit and right hand man and the only person that could hope to understand his specific set of circumstances and then they walked the earth together as two men out of time soul-tied by fate and loyalty and blistering unwavering devotion. and that wasnt meant to mean anything

Hey idk how I missed this but Loki was king of Asgard for approx 4 years??? Thor 2 ends in 2013 and Loki’s on the throne. Thor 3 starts in approx nov 2017. He yeeted Odin on Midgard for 4 years. That’s crazy to me. Besides build statues and make plays to himself what did Loki do for 4 years?? Maybe he was right in Thor 3 when he said Asgard was thriving and fine without him etc.. damn.
I 100% believe Loki when he said Asgard was thriving and fine without Thor for 4 main reasons, the first being that he tells Thor to ask those around them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really doubt he'd set himself up for a "Is Loki telling the truth?" "He is a terrible king and Asgard is suffering greatly" scenario. Plus there are gasps and people looking shocked at Thor threatening Loki a moment later so I'm assuming they don't hate Loki.
the second being in the previous movies the "chaos" and "ruin" and such that resulted from the bifrost breaking was because Asgard's military couldn't be sent out to keep what they see as order.
Thor: Possibly... but then I decide to go out there and investigate. And what do I find but the Nine Realms completely in chaos. Enemies of Asgard assembling, plotting our demise, all while you, Odin, the protector of those Nine Realms, are sitting here in your bathrobe, eating grapes.
LOKI as ODIN: Well, it is best to respect our neighbors' freedom.
THOR: Of course, the freedom to be massacred.
Asgard's propaganda of being high and mighty protectors of the realms and Thor's issue being that enemies of Asgard are assembling is pretty telling I think. Thor isn't really concerned about the lives, just Asgard's position, because their realm very much does have their lowkey superior complexes going on (is that supremacist-y?) and I'm supposed to assume the "freedom to be massacred" is whatever Asgard will do in retaliation to the chaos caused by Asgard not keeping order? It's worth noting that the movie focuses on Asgardians losing their lives and becoming refugees but still keeping their monarchy in place while the other realms are only mentioned when they are in opposition to Asgard, (sans Earth, since Thor favours it) and the narrative generally keeps light on the colonizers side. Consider that even if Surtur was planning to cause Ragnarok Thor still went there and got caught/started fighting them because he had a dream. Whatever Loki was doing while king seems to lean into non-interventialism to me, and I can't see retracting their military hold on the other realms as a bad thing since we know they killed/enslaved/stole from them to establish the oh so generous protection they provide (didn't they ditch Jotunheim to a slow icy death and abandon Midgard for ages??). Thor hasn't been to Asgard in years, and is simply assuming Loki was doing nothing good, and since he's the hero we're supposed to take his word on who he suspects of treachery after threatening him with mjolnir.
third reason is because we've seen Loki in Thor 1 Avengers 1 and Thor 2. he doesn't go out of his way to inflict purposeless violence even when his head is going through a shredder. we've also seen Thor and Odin and Hela and if we're comparing Loki just. generally has higher moral standing. even though he's done terrible things, not a terrible person imo.
we also haven't really seen Asgard engage in art practices before, with Thor 1 and 2 telling us that "glorious battles" "exotic maidens" and generally being fierce warriors/training is what is normal... so even though the movie attempts to go "haha look at Loki lounging around watching a play" what i'm getting from this as fourth is that Loki had time to run Asgard AND make it better because regular citizens (that he was sitting with!) were at their leisure and doing something other than fighting. As wacky as the play was (*cough* baby blue icicle *cough* so loki still wants to think good of odin and have had his acceptance/love at some point *cough*), the reaction of the audience is NOT the xenophobia established in Thor 1 at the very least.
in conclusion he literally was being a good king for Asgard it's just framed as a bad thing because he was pretending to be Odin while doing so and after sending him to Earth and Odin was for some reason coded as a good guy in Ragnarok :/
