I made a substack for my blog, the posts I've made here will stay but I'll be migrating them to here so I can share them a bit easier with nontumblr users.
AN EXTREMELY RARE EMBROIDERED 'PEACOCK FEATHER' CAPE
QING DYNASTY, LATE 19TH CENTURY
The long cape entirely constructed with layers of overlapping peacock feather shaped panels, each panel finely worked in satin stitch, the silk threads in tones of ivory, yellow and blue on the eye of the peacock feather, and the surround intricately worked in peacock feather filaments, with one cloth button on the collar and another near the waist, finished with Imperial yellow lining.
hi everybody please reblog this and tell me your go-to coffee order right now and if you don't like coffee feel free to include your go-to tea order instead
I just finished this blanket for a gift. It took a really long time, but I’m happy with how it turned out.
Does anyone have tips for blocking blankets in small spaces? I don’t have much space in my apartment other than areas I have to share with roommates. My main concern is the edges, want to which curl. There’s a few stitches of stockinette, then a few stitches of garter all around the border. There’s also a few places where I had to ladder down to fix mistakes, which left noticeable spaces. You might be able to see them near the bottom of the second picture.
has anyone ever used tapestry wool? I've cross stitched with embroidery floss before but am thinking of trying some dmc wool out for a mixed media piece.
yall know that post with all of those absolutely stunning crochet flowers? well i just bought a pattern from the shop those are from and Good Fucking Lord.
I was expecting a like a Chart or two, maybe some written instructions. not Seventy Seven full color pages for One type of rose.

kids these days don't understand the atmosphere of eric kripke seasons, he was an absolute master of his craft/vision and anyone who actively convinces anyone to skip 1-3 is not in one's right mind. eric completely understood the backwoods old school americana, the influence of 70s rock and og blues incorporated into the essence of the show. the original soundtrack of supernatural wasn't just about sounding good but woven into the narrative of the story (blue oyster cult/ACDC/led zepp/styx/robert johnson/the chamber brothers) music that held the entire spirit of time & culture of that time. (I can't tell you how much watching supernatural at 12 shaped my music taste today) the smoky roadhouses/bars, mullets, scrapyards and classic americana cars, oh he just got it.
kripke fabricated the toxic hyper-co-dependent brothers we know and love, he managed to write the most obnoxious, gung ho, red blooded masculine guy also be the obedient, subdued, desperate, needy brother/son/man who's worth is only attached in those he can gratify. the tender and gentle, sorrowful, conflicted and misfit little (big) brother who endeavoured every path to avoid his fate yet succumbed to it anyways. two brothers so layered in their attachment with one another that if you witnessed it before you you'd be down right scared
I hold onto this series so much because of how 1-5 made me feel, the nostalgia he captured.
This was definitely a long but rewarding process. I found a picture of this shawl on Tumblr and wanted to try and make it, as it looked super difficult and I guess I felt up to a challenge. Me and my mom went to a really fancy yarn shop (where I spent wayyyyy too much on this yarn) and I started knitting! Now you start with a garter tab (3 sts) and gradually increase, by the time I was at the leaf motifs I had almost 800 stitches on my needles! Sometimes a row would take me 30 minutes. But it's absolutely worth it as the end result is just soooo nice. The lace was definitely a challenge (I now get that not every knit is tv-knitting appropriate) and I definitely made some mistakes along the way. The fun thing about lace is that it looks all ugly and scrunched up until you've taken it off the needles and blocked it, so all the time while I was knitting I had no idea how it was going to look. I'm beyond happy with the result and I'm excited to give this to my mom :)
