Peter Two was trying to be better about his eating habits—or lack thereof. Really, he was, but sometimes trying wasn’t good enough. Sometimes trying was the very thing that screwed him over later, he realized as he rifled through his patrol pack and found nothing but civilian clothes. In his desire to make sure his brothers wouldn’t worry, he’d already eaten the snacks Peter One supplied him with during his last patrol. Now there was nothing left when he actually needed it.

Hollow nausea echoed in the pit of his stomach and sweat slicked the back of his neck as he tried to stifle the anxiety. He could hold out; he just needed to make it to the rendezvous point and then he could ask one of them for something from their bags. It wouldn’t be long.

“Guys, I’m…I’m on my way,” he murmured into the comm., swallowing hard against the dry numbness of his tongue. “Which way are we…?”

His question trailed off, drowned out by a shrill, sudden ringing. For a moment he wondered if it was feedback in the earpiece but the sound floated away just as quickly as it had begun. Come to think of it, everything else seemed to be drifting off with it now. But why would—

“…eter? Can you hear me? C’mon, wake up, please wake up…” Peter One’s face swam into view through a spinning field of stars, panicked creases only slightly easing when he saw Two’s eyes flutter open. “Peter! You’re white as a sheet. What happened?”

“I don’t…” His dazed half-response was interrupted by a hitched breath and his stomach audibly roiling. “I haven’t…”

“His pack’s empty! Did we forget to restock last night?” Three asked urgently. “It’s gotta be a blood sugar thing. Here, make him—”

In the span of a sluggish blink, there was a bottle being held to Two’s lips and careful fingers sliding through his hair, propping his head up.

Just this once, he would swallow his martyr complex with the orange juice.
