All of these books are queer, but they all have back blurbs that don’t say they’re queer. While this can be a pain if I’m scouting for queer SFF, it can come in handy for people in a situation where they don’t want to be reading queer books openly. 

Please do note that I don’t have hard copies of the books on hand so it’s possible that an author quote or something mentions one being queer (I feel like this isn’t super likely, but I don’t want to rule it out). Some might also have author biographies mentioning that the author is queer. Also, some may be shelved as LGBT on Goodreads or categorized as queer on Amazon. So if you’re planning on asking for any of these as holiday gifts, I would suggest going to the Amazon page or where ever your relative is likely to buy it from and double check that it’s something you’d be comfortable with sharing openly. 

I wish I had more pansexual books, but the ones I know of tend to mention queerness in the back description. 

With the exception of The Spy with the Red Balloon, these are all books I have read or are currently reading. If you want to recommend others, feel free to do so in the replies!

Best Jilco Fanfics I’ve read…so far.

After realizing I ship Jilco I immediately looked for fanfics. Fanfictions that had the ship with no r*ape/non con or major character death. I was blessed with 9 works of this pairing with specific filtering on A03. Out of those nine works I will be sharing four stories I really liked. I’m very surprised that all the fanfics I’ve read nailed Jinx and Silco’s character writing. It did not feel off character at all which makes me ship the pairing even harder.

Take Me In Hand  by simplescribe

This is the best one IMO that’s why it is in first place. Its long and smutty just the way I like it. It was exciting from start to finish. There was some violence in it but nothing non con of the sort. I would recommend reading this Jilco fic.

You’re perfect  by YRKILLINME

This fanfic takes place in Episode 5 during the baptism scene. Basically the better version of what could happen when Silco guided Jinx to the water. It’s short with 400 words but I love it anyway. I would make this whole fanfic into an edit.

Complicated by yolo_kurama

This fanfic fed me the idea of Jinx and silco doing it in his office. It’s just..name what better place for our couple to have fun. It has cute ending. This fanfic is the embodiment a good Fluff and Smut fic which I don’t get enough in most fanfics I’ve read.

The Best Kind of Distraction by Blueberry_Alien

If you just want smut at the beginning of  the story here it is. Its really short with 700 words.

It’s funny how science fiction universes so often treat humans as a boring, default everyman species or even the weakest and dumbest.

I want to see a sci fi universe where we’re actually considered one of the more hideous and terrifying species.

How do we know our saliva and skin oils wouldn’t be ultra-corrosive to most other sapient races? What if we actually have the strongest vocal chords and can paralyze or kill the inhabitants of other worlds just by screaming at them? What if most sentient life in the universe turns out to be vegetable-like and lives in fear of us rare “animal” races who can move so quickly and chew shit up with our teeth?

Like that old story “they’re made of meat,” only we’re scarier.

Shutdown

I was asked to write an example of how an autistic shutdown might be shown through writing. And since I headcanon the DeWitts as autistic, I decided to use Booker, who seemed like the more likely one to have shutdowns instead of meltdowns. I know it's really short, but it was meant to be only a snippet to explore the feelings & experience of a shutdown, rather than a whole story.

Booker could feel the shutdown coming. The fireworks were so loud, borrowing into his ears, drilling into his brain. It was getting hard to think, everything being overwhelmed by the noise. A shrill whistle, followed by a painful bang, over & over again. It drowned out all other noises around him. His body itched to move, to stim the agonizing catalyst away. Yet there were people around him, people that wouldn’t understand, so he shut himself in, even if it hurt. It hurt to think, to feel anything, to stand still & pretend he was ok. It was an unbearable feeling that he had no way of getting rid of.

    “Booker?” Elizabeth’s voice broke out through the painful haze of his brain. She understood, she could help him.

    “It’s loud.” He mumbled lowly, his own voice too loud for his own ears. She didn’t touch him as she led him away from the crowd & the fireworks.

The ending cuts off really abruptly because the shutdown is no longer the focus of the story at that point. I prolly won't develop this into a full length fic, but there will be a few fics that would include meltdowns or shutdowns as narrative points. Cause I sure do love me some angst.
