FMP PECHA KUCHA FEEDBACK:
Group said - Must work big as my best work appears big. ‘I love it when I come in and see you've taken over a section of the room’
- Maybe interactive?
- Furniture is a good place to start development
- Focus on Hermione Allsopp and Jack Howell Evans
- Must consider how I am going to document my work ie. photography, film?

Incorporating ‘television on’
Something that really stuck with me from the film ‘Dreams of a Life’ was the idea of the television being on for three years straight. This to me really highlighted how isolation Joyce was and made the whole situation much more eerie.
How to include this in my exhibition? maybe have a television that is playing loads of tv? (I find this maybe distracting from the actual armchair-- maybe removing one of the elements ie. getting rid of sound or image?)
I like the idea suggested to me of having an electrical device that playing sound recordings of different shows to represent the tv being on for years and yet no one is interested in my non-existent ‘subject’.

Preparing studio for exhibition.
New skills learnt- How to fill in walls with polyfilla, how to scrub floor with metal sponges attached to shoes and that vinegar makes for a very good cleaner.

I could imagine this chair in the flat of Joyce Vincent.

Paper collage of armchair and expanding foam.
Diagram of sorts of what final outcome will look like. Will have the foam more in the middle of the chair in more of an explosive manner.

Options of armchairs found in charity shop.
These were the cheapest chairs in the shop (15 pounds each), as these fit into my budget the best. The other armchairs were all 35 pounds and making the choice to buy one of those would not have been cost effective within my budget.
I think I prefer the chair with the pattern over due to the shape of the chair. I think the shape is more old fashioned and therefore tired, whereas the other armchair is a lot more modern.
I was stuck on where to buy my chair and I have looked on Gumtree and Ebay but decided furniture charity shops were the best place to browse for such items.
Delivery to school: delivery options from shop costs 30 pounds (too much for budget). Uber about the same. Dad agree to lift.

ARMCHAIR IDEA:
To have an armchair paired with expanding foam, as if the expanding foam is exploding the stuffing of the chair. I then want the chair painted all one colour to make the foam and the chair work more seamlessly together.
WHY A CHAIR?
Why not a sofa? A sofa suggest companionship which contradicts my idea. Also, a sofa is not as practical to work with within the studio (how do I transport it to Camden?).
I think a chair is really symbolic of loneliness. For me, I have a lot of images in my head of older people sat alone in an armchair (perhaps after a loved one has died or something similar).

Idea and ‘Concept’ for Exhibition
Idea from ‘Dreams of a Life’ film:
I want to explore loneliness and solitude in my exhibition. The progress I have been making has been focused around this idea since watching the film in relation to. Furniture has always been a key focal point for me as I like exploring the idea of function and the way you can morph and manipulate it and the contrast in textures which you can find in furniture.
I also like the use of expanding foam and how it, to me anyway, connotes body fluids. It makes the object it has been combined with rancid and disgusting and aged. It has reminded me of death and decay, and therefore, reignites my thinking about life-span and organic matter.
