The Homesman (dir. Jones, 2014)
Maybe it's Tommy Lee Jones, and not Linklater, who is Texas' greatest filmmaker.

Sierra (dir. Alfred E. Green, 1950)
Murphy's first western is his masterpiece. Not a masterpiece of filmmaking or even of acting, but a masterpiece of presence that proves the miracle of cinema is the simple act of filming eyes. In 1950, five years removed from WW2 battlefields and at the beginning of his movie career, Murphy's eyes tell the ancient and forgotten tale where violence begets innocence.

Audie Murphy – Auteur
Because he was wholly incapable of registering a false emotion for the camera.
Because screen villains twice his size did not have to be directed to fear him.
Because screen women did not have to be directed to pity him.
Because his worst film is more interesting than Bogie's best.
Because he never killed more men in the movies than he killed in real life.
Because PTSD in technicolor is a stained-glass window into the soul.
Because if there is a heaven, Bresson has already directed him in the greatest movie ever made
