The botanical garden of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Biology in Paris

The herb garden of Nicolas Houel, famous apothecary of the sixteenth century, having been the cradle of pharmaceutical education, the school installed in the heart of Paris (6th arrondissement) had to continue the tradition. Originally installed on a plot of 8000 m², it was reduced following enlargements of the faculty. Today, a botanical laboratory, flower beds and old style greenhouses shelter some 500 different species of medicinal and poisonous plants, plants used today in cosmetics and perfumery. Plant recognition is still in the program of first year for students of pharmacy.
