Blue eyes filled with worry. Aurora had known that her son often went out into the forest on his own but she hadn’t known that he sometimes couldn’t sleep. As a mother, it made her heart feel heavy. Sinking gracefully into the sofa near the fireplace she held her hand out to him, silently asking him to join her. “Do you often have trouble sleeping?”

     For a moment the prince hesitated before he finally reached out and took his mothers hand, her touch instantly soothing him. He’d been holding his mothers hand since the day he was born, her protection, her love, her belief in him - that familiar touch made him feel like a kid again. Taking the seat next to her on the sofa he looked down, almost afraid to look at her as he revealed this weakness. 

“I do..” Phillip’s voice was low as he spoke. “I’ve been having nightmares. I’ll wake up in a cold sweat but because I wake up so suddenly I can’t remember what they were. They just leave that lingering feeling that makes me afraid to fall asleep--’

Aurora watched as her son did his best to slip into the castle unnoticed. And if she wasn’t up with the sun as usual, he might have succeeded. But as it was, the Queen cleared her throat delicately at her son. “Phillip, would you like to explain yourself?”

     Phillip tried to pry the door open as delicately as possible, knowing how loud the creaking of the rusted doors could echo through the quiet of the night. Yet, as the door finally opened fully, his mothers voice called out to him as the sunlight began to peak through the windows. There was no escaping now. With a small roll of his eyes he closed the door behind him, walking into the room to face his fate. “I’ve been out in the forest..it’s nothing. Just - something I do when I can’t sleep.” The young prince tried his best to cover his tracks, not wanting his mother to know he’d been at the cabin she used to live in in her childhood.

Briar Rose hummed lightly to herself as she walked through the forest that surrounded the cottage where she lived. She was on a mission to pick some fresh flowers as she did almost every week even though her aunts always worried about her going out by herself. But Briar Rose was without a care as she went, soon enough singing out a clear and lovely tune - her walk turning into dancing. She sang happily to all the animals as if they were the one she dreamed of. “I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream~”

     With Samson’s reins in hand Phillip walked through the forest, taking in the fresh air, relishing in the tranquility of nature. It was so peaceful to hear the songs of the birds, to be away from his parents bickering. As he walked the birds songs seemed to change and the chirping turned into the sweet melody of a young maidens song. Curiosity filled him as he searched for her voice, wanting to see who could create such beautiful music. Placing his hand gently on a branch to move it from his view the princes eyes softened as he spotted the beauty dancing in the sunlight. Her song ringing out all around them.
