That one angle of Crossroads Baker throughout the Godzilla series:
Gigantis the Fire Monster (1959)
Godzilla (1998)
Godzilla (2014)
Godzilla Minus One (2023)
In Gigantis and G14, Baker stands in for Castle Bravo; in G98, it represents a French nuclear test in French Polynesia. Minus One depicts Baker mutating Godzilla, using CG to recreate the well-worn stock shot. The film's novelization notes how a pair of IJN ships, Nagato and Sakawa, were among the targets.

People need to learn what derivative art means.
What it doesn’t mean: copying something but changing it slightly.
What it means: copying something but changing it slightly without understanding it.
A lot of anime about “girl life and girl problems” written by men are extremely derivative. It’s obvious they have no idea what it’s like to be a young girl but they like the genre and just copies what they’ve seen in other stories like that, resulting in girls who feel more like passive puppets.
Most of Studio Ghibli’s girls aren’t derivative. They react like real little girls to situations. Say someone is attacking them, they don’t respond with with extreme passiveness or immediate aggression but by trying to get away, trying to stop the aggressor in their tracks or hiding, only turning to aggression when all else fails. Normal girl stuff. They show anger and sadness in appropriate situations and don’t come off as weird mystical creatures with no rime or reason. That’s a huge part of why a lot of anime girls feel unfair and moody. The creator has no idea how girls respond to things so they make a guess based on other works.
Someone making a magical girl story isn’t automatically being derivative. They might like magical girl stories but get ideas based on their own life and experiences. A black girl making a magical black girl isn’t being derivative. She just couldn’t help but imagine what it would be like for a black girl to go through that.
I can’t say it enough. Taking inspiration from stuff isn’t copying or being derivative. I often see fanart that has so little in common with the original work that it might as well be the fanartist’s own character and my immediate thought is always “Just make it your own character. You’ve put so much of yourself into this it’s no longer the original character and it would be so much more interesting if you allowed yourself to go all in on this idea, and trust me, people will like it way more. Yes you can make them a pirate too. Pirate stories are a whole genre”
Anyone who accuse other people of being derivative is a 100% guilty of exactly the same thing they consider derivative when other people do it. Show me any character or story and I can say “Oh it’s [insert story idea or character] like [insert story idea or character]” The only thing new about any story is our own take on it.

@INDIEDOCS presents : tinkerbell ! a multi-muse interest tracker
tinkerbell is a google sheets interest tracker perfect for multi-muse roleplay blogs. this tracker works well for any number of characters and includes a section for additional blogs. it is customisable and easy to edit. tinkerbell includes a frozen example column for your mutuals to use as a guide when adding their url.
instructions.
to use this template, select “file” and “make a copy”
to increase or remove spaces for characters, right click on the sheet and select “add/remove row below or above”
to change the background colours of the subheaders, select the appropriate number on the left-hand side of the sheet until the entire row is highlighted. select the background paint feature and choose your colour. to change the accent colours, highlight the coloured text and select the font colour feature. change accordingly.
to add more columns for your mutuals to fill, highlight a column using the lettered bar at the top of the sheet. right click and select “add right/left”
the instructions and information text can be edited.
important information.
the first two columns are frozen. this will help your mutuals fill in your tracker without forcing them to scroll left to right in order to determine what character they are expressing an interest in.
don’t forget to change the shared link from “viewer” to “editor” on your copy otherwise your mutuals can’t add their url to your tracker.
do not remove the credit tab at the bottom of the template.
please like and / or reblog this post if you use this tracker.

[when I'm home later today I'll be making an interest checker in an excel spreadsheet instead of a form. It'll be easier for everybody (me included) to keep track / change as muses shift around.]

I forgot how lonely it is to write original fiction.
Where are the kudos? The subscriptions? The comments? The people cheerleading me chapter to chapter? Where are the kind words and compliments and reassurances that what I'm writing isn't complete crap? Where are the unhinged emojis? The asks on Tumblr? Where are my mutuals in my dms apologizing for not reading the latest chapter right away (side note, you know you don't have to apologize at all, right??). Where is the fanart? Where are the recs?
Where is my motivation to keep going?
It's something I've been thinking about a lot, actually, lately. How the experience of writing fanfic is so unique. How you already have an audience, willing and waiting and captive. And that's really it, isn't it? You have an audience. It's almost performative, writing fanfic. It's being on a stage, a one-person show (or two, if you do it with a friend); it's getting live reactions to your performance, it's feeding off the energy of the crowd and informing it back in a feedback loop; it's improvised, sometimes, in almost-real-time. It's building something that you couldn't have built by yourself. A thing that takes on a life of its own.
It's an experience you can't get writing original fiction, and, honestly, not having it is making it hard to write something original at all.

[Something I've noticed about tumblr over the years is that despite its progressive veneer, there is a lot of bullying and ostracization against perceived wrongthink and aesthetics are held above action when it comes to those values. It doesn't matter if you support your community irl, do mutual aid, help the helpless etc — if you don't talk about the particular very specific highly triggering topics du jour on your online roleplay blog, or if you attempt to have an educated conversation about something 'problematic' in the 'wrong' way, then you're cancelled and suddenly all kinds of popular rp blogs have you blocked.
This shit is especially present in the rp community and as an autistic mun who needs to be told shit like if I say something that upsets someone or makes them uncomfortable? That shit sucks, for you to feel shunned and exiled with no clue what you did wrong. And this doesn't even begin to touch the can of worms that is callout posts often being large-scale bullying and cringe culture, 'look at them and laugh' or 'look at them and cringe'. The anons people get are abhorrent. The things off-anon people get are horrific too.
For a site that touts being inclusive of neurodivergent people in particular it really ought to do better.]
