Either my belly grew or my #battlejacket shrunk. Either way, I can’t fit into it anymore. I’d been thinking about how to display it on the wall, when I found this frame at the neighborhood garage sale this morning. A perfect fit. Which side should I display? Front or back?

Raise your hand if you like The Absence. Their self-titled new album is out in the wild and sounds pretty great! I picked it up along with their “official unofficial bootleg” CD on Bandcamp (B-sides, odds, and ends). FFO melodeath.

My original CD digipak I bought 30 years ago and the new vinyl reissue. I’m finally old enough to get the full benefit of 30 year anniversary reissues! Type O Negative - Bloody Kisses (Suspended in Dusk version).

The “Suspended In Dusk” version of Bloody Kisses is now out on vinyl. This is the definitive version of Type O Negative’s masterpiece, in my opinion. The sound quality is superb. I’ve always wanted this on wax, and now my wish came true.

Hell’s Heroes Merch Report - Day 2: Only the valiant and committed shall make it through the slow moving line for band merch, lol. Luckily the outside stage was viewable from the line, so I got to enjoy Watchtower’s entire set from there. The new band discovery of the day for me was Stygian Crown, who impressed me so much I bought a shirt and CD. I got shirts for Midnight and Night Demon, a poster and tote bag for the always wonderful Nite, and a Watchtower patch. I returned to the outside vendor bazaar and found some Black Sabbath and Alice and Chains patches of indeterminate origin 😁. I really like treasure hunting through the piles of random patches - it’s like panning for gold.
.
Highlights of the day: Eternal Champion and Lamp of Murmuur!

Hell’s Heroes Merch Report - Day 1: There are a ton of vendors here selling lots of great patches and other merch. I picked up a handful of random woven patches that caught my eye. The Autopsy merch table was easy to hit, but the line for the booth that had merch for all the other bands was so long I finally gave up after 40 minutes and little movement. The designs for the fest are really cool, and I did manage to snag a hat, patch, and long sleeve. Favorite band of the day: Night Demon!

I’m in my mid-40s and just now discovering the splendor of band hockey jerseys. I found this official Type O Negative jersey on Depop last week and I love it so much. What other metal bands have jerseys like this?

I haven’t bought a lot of new records this year. But things are starting to heat up. New albums from Gatecreeper and Dark Throne are coming soon. And the recent releases from Zakk Sabbath, Skeletal Remains, Judas Priest, Haunt, and Midnight are all great!

Slayer - Show No Mercy (40th Anniversary Edition). I went to @volumemusic1 last night to buy the new Judas Priest record and spotted this while I was there. It was a little pricey, but I went for it because I absolutely love this album. Good news: it sounds magnificent! I listened to it four times in a row when I got home. Hearing the fade in to Black Magic is a religious experience for me!

The Priest is back! Judas Priest’s new album, Invincible Shield, is excellent. I’m on my fourth listen today. All the hype is real and deserved.

Time for Type O Negative - Bloody Kisses. One of my all time favorite albums. When life sucks and you’re drowning in sorrow, this is the medicine that has cured me time and again. There are so many phenomenal tracks on here, it’s hard to pick a favorite. Often overlooked or underrated, Blood & Fire is the one that really hits me every time.
The keen eyed among you will see that my CD has the variant cover art. This is the “Suspended in Dusk” version with an alternate track listing. I bought that at a local record store in 1994 after seeing TON open for Danzig, and didn’t know it was an alternate version until I saw my buddy’s copy had different songs. Anyway, they are finally releasing this version on vinyl for the first time ever (preorders are up on the band’s web shop).
