My frog is, thankfully, very well behaved. Or at least, she listens to me very well. I made the mistake of assuming those meant the same thing. NOT true.
She likes my kid brother, but she doesn’t respect him at all. She seems to see him as lower in the pecking order than herself. She gets distressed if something’s wrong with him, she’ll cuddle him, she loves to play with him. She brings him bones and toys when he’s having a bad day. He doesn’t appreciate her kind overtures.
But she doesn’t listen to him.
We discovered this the first time he watched her without us and before he left to go do something told her to go to her crate. She’s fully crate trained and isn’t distressed at all about being in the crate.
So no problem right?

The evil creature immediately jumped on the kitchen table and looked so SMUG about it. Deliberate naughtiness!

The actual symbol that represents the name of Gd instead of an honorific for Gd is seen as very sacred, to the point where in writing it can only be disposed of in specific ways. You’re also not supposed to take anything with that written into unclean places like a bathroom. This means a lot of times, an honorific is used instead, or it’s censored.
This requirement doesn’t extend to English, but both out of respect and tradition, a lot of Jews will censor in English, as well.
You’ll even sometimes see people will when talking about Gd but not when using an expression like oh my god.
On Twitter there are currently a lot of Christians and Muslims getting really angry about ways that Jews work around restrictions on work during Shabbat, and, like, honestly I do not understand why they care? Just a lot of non-Jews telling nice Orthodox Jews that they’re doing their religion wrong for no reason.

I think everyone understands at a very intuitive level that some creatures are more of a person than others. A cow is a person. A chicken however is not, but a chicken is more of a person than a fish. A fish is not a person. A clam is less of a resin than a fish, but it’s hard to quantify because a fish is already at a zero.
A rabbit is more a person than any other kind of rodent. We understand this on a less-than-conscious level. This is because a rabbit is capable of understanding its own mortality and resenting it. A rabbit is capable of not just fear, but of rage. And so we see ourselves in rabbits.
This does not spare the rabbit the snare.

I brought a pre-tied scarf in for a patient after we talked yesterday. She really loved the one I was wearing, and said she should get one. She’d lost all her hair from chemo, and was a little self conscious about it. She asked where I got it from and I told her Amazon, and she said she needed to learn how to work Amazon eventually. So I brought one in for her. I have a ton anyway and I know how to work Amazon, so it would be easy enough to replace.
She passed away over the night. She was working with hospice, but we hadn’t expected her to pass for a while. She wasn’t even looking at discharge to hospice currently.
I don’t know where I’m going with this. She was kind, and I liked her, and she died. That’s all, I guess.

The kids are having a very serious discussion over breakfast about how you should never drink water that smells like cinnamon. Because it’s most likely going to smell like cinnamon to cover up the smell of poison. This was apparently a completely reasonable premise to work on, but when I suggested it could also be a cup of tea, that was met with a lot of skepticism.

The people chanting that Jews should just go back to Poland irritates me on many levels.
I am ethnically polish and Jewish. Not one person tells me to go back to Poland as a polish person. Because that's straight up xenophobic.
So I shouldn't even have to unpack why you shouldn't be telling Jews this.

Comforting myself with the knowledge that as long as I get a 65 on this final, I have an A in my class.
I can’t imagine actually bombing it that badly, but it’s still reassuring.
