as of oct 2, 2023, band of brothers is 5.9 goncharovs
people trying to insist a fandom is tiny when it /only/ has a few thousand works on ao3 meanwhile my current fandom is a sixteen book series and has several hundred fewer works than goncharov, a movie that, and i cannot stress this enough, doesn’t even exist

Major Dick Winters’ Sykes Fairbairn fighting knife.
This knife was a gift from Lt. Lewis Nixon who was Winters’ close friend. The inscription is “L.N.” (Lewis Nixon) to “D.W.” (Dick Winters) “November 1943”. This knife is referenced in Winters’ war time letters and was taken by an unknown person at some point and the inscription was unsuccessfully partially removed with a file. Major Winters and Easy Company arrived in England in September 1943 and trained with British Soldiers and Commandos who sported the British Sykes Fairbairn knife. These knives became a “luxury item” and were very coveted by the U.S. soldiers who had them.

i was just thinking about the "I'm already dead" characters and how the one person who actually says it, claims it in the series is Speirs, and yet he's the one who defies death so throughly that it's all he's known for for years.
and the characters who exhibit the most life and youth, the most cheer, the most revel in being alive (i.e. skip, alex, hoob, julian, etc etc) and the one character who fights death tooth and nail for every damn second she is alive on screen (i.e. renee lemaire) are the ones who die? are the ones who are marked by the narrative to have Actually Been Dead From the Very Beginning?
doesn't that just fuck you up a little bit?

I feel like it’s an unspoken fact that they didn’t let carwood lipton join in the baseball game, not because he was now an officer, but because they knew if it would be his turn as the batter they’d have to go back to germany to look for that ball
